This was so fun. We decided one morning that we needed to do a canal tour. There are many to choose from. Checked out the reviews and this one seem to be highly recommended. We bought our tickets online. Check-in was easy. They basically have a little storefront where you can hang out and wait if you're early like we were. They also have a cat that you absolutely must say hello to. Once it's your time, you walk out to the canal and meet your captain. Our captain was absolutely lovely. She was hilarious and very knowledgeable. I wish I could remember her name because she definitely deserves mention! We learned a lot, we laughed, and it was an absolutely great afternoon. Had a great time on this tour. I didn't book it for our group, but they communicated every step of the way and made for a great time during the tour. Told their personal stories and experiences of the city along with tidbits of history. Our guide, Tommy and his dog Ollie were amazing. We had 2 other small groups with us and it's BYOB. Thought it was money well spent and would book through them again. They also own De Knoop, which is a little bar near the drop off and pick up location. This was such a magical experience and such a memorable part of our trip to Amsterdam. This is also easily the best canal boat company for so many reasons. First, they only seat 8 people per tour, so you can expect an intimate trip. You'll see those big tours sailing down the canals and the people just look miserable on them. They're listening to those little audio guides and it just looks so boring. The intimate setting allows for a really personalized tour. We were able to chat with the others on our boat and it was so great to meet people from around the world. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable. He actually works as a historian and is recording a podcast for the Netherlands about their history. He was able to provide us with such rich information about the city, but did so in a way that was so fun and entertaining! The tiny boat also allows you to get into parts of the canals that aren't as accessible with the big boats. You can bring whatever drinks, snacks and smoke you want to enjoy! Even during the winter, we were able to take a ride without the windows up and they provided blankets and heat pads. This was truly a unique experience and the best way to explore the dam! read more

Disappointing boat tour for us, it felt endless. Based on the ads, we thought it would be a fun, relaxing boat ride with a small group and friendly comedic captain. Instead, the captain spent every minute of the ride lecturing everyone as if we were in school. It was very cold, the boat was open, and the captain did not offer blankets. I was cold throughout and just wanted to get off the boat. Drinks are also not offered as part of the tour and, when to capacity as ours was, it's way too cramped. The captain also kind of talks at the group and barely engages with the customers as humans (other than an initial brief introduction.) The tour also went long making it tough for us to make our dinner reservation after. Granted, the captain was intelligent and knowledgable, but I was on vacation and did not sign up for a lecture. I wish we had chosen another company's tour. read more

My husband and I had a fantastic tour with Salim, and I would highly recommend this company. The key differentiators between this and other companies: it's 90 minutes, features a small boat that can navigate almost every canal, and keeps groups small (I believe a maximum of 10 people). From what I saw, you can't find that elsewhere for the price. We were initially a little concerned, based on the website language, that it might be cheesy or that the guide would fancy themselves a stand-up comedian, making the tour more about themself, when we just wanted a standard tour with a knowledgeable guide. However, we trusted the great reviews online and got exactly what we were looking for: a great guide giving a great tour. I'm sure the guides are all skilled at tailoring the experience to their audience. Again, Salim was wonderful, shared a lot of great information, and took excellent care of us. If you are looking to add some color to your canal tour, these guys make it happen. A warning, other people in the boat do drugs as you get the tour so you can't be wound up about that - and - if you are, please remember you are in Amsterdam after all. They know a lot and encourage a good time. There was a total of 10 people on our tiny boat and that included the guise. We mistimed our arrival and had to buy beer from this business which was a lifesaver but it also meant we overpaid since it would have cost less at the grocery store. I first heard about the damn both guys on social media. I decided to book them for my canal cruise, and it was great! I think what I enjoyed most is that they use a small though, so it was only about eight of us plus the captain. So it made the experience more intimate, you could ask questions just chat and talk. Our captain was super awesome, too, gave us a lot of history, but also was very entertaining. They let you bring your own food and drinks on board! Their office is not too far from the loading dock, so make sure you stop in and use the bathroom before or after. They are super friendly!! read more

The tour was good - please note that it's not necessarily family friendly, the guide was hilarious but lots of F bombs, negativity, vulgar jokes about the Brits, etc...we loved the humor though! Very good price for what it was. The boat was much tinier that I expected. We had 7 people plus the guide and our legs were touching. You can't stretch your legs out while sitting and can't stand up. If we could do it again, we would take a bigger boat. In the small cramped area, you really have to like your seatmates (who are strangers). Unfortunately we had a couple of older tipsy loudmouth Americans (we are American) ... if it was a bigger boat we could have moved away from them. I booked a sunset boat tour with Those Dam Boat Guys on our recent trip to Amsterdam this past August and it didn't disappoint. It was such a relaxed and personalized experience and have been bragging to everyone about it when I returned to SoCal. Taking a smaller boat around the city is the way to go! We even met some other tourists from Australia and New York on our cruise. I feel terrible that I forgot our guide's name at the moment, but he was of Swedish decent, had an adorable puppy back at headquarters, and was about to go on his own vacation shortly after our trip. Had a holler of a time on the THOSE DAM BOAT GUYS Amsterdam tour... The group was small - 12 people total - so it was a very intimate experience, which was great. If you are NOT comfortable with off-color jokes, cursing, and smoking, then this is not the tour for you. The vibe was more adult-friendly and I would not recommend any young kids. My only piece of feedback would be that the tour was less informational about the city than I would have liked it to be. I loved the unconventional way that our tour guide approached the tour, but it lacked any information. Just took a trip with Captain Leroy! So much fun! I learned so much about the history of Amsterdam but also fun facts about buildings and houses. He asked at the beginning if anyone wanted to see something specific...and a mom said...the zoo. So we were off to the zoo to see if we could see some animal sightings (saw an elephant). He allowed the two younger passengers to help steer the boat....fun was had by everyone. If you do one thing when visiting Amsterdam....it should be this tour! read more
