Condescending, disrespectful, arrogant, rude, dishonest, and disorganized.
I contacted Mike the first week of May 2020 and scheduled to have him do work on 2 of my boats for the 2nd week of June. 1 boat was for a T-Top windshield, the 2nd boat for cushion upholstery, a bimini and full enclosure. Waiting 6-8 weeks this time of year is something I expected so no big deal.
What I didn't expect was the worst business interaction I've had my entire life.
From day 1, Mike spoke down to my wife and I in a condescending tone whenever we asked questions to become more familiar with what he had to offer, how his process worked, or what the costs involved for his services would be. He went out of his way to belittle us with comments such as "You don't need to know my hourly rate you wouldn't be able to afford me" and "I've been in business for XYZ number of years, you know how many times I've heard people say they could refer others? I don't believe that you will."
Well, I certainly won't be, nor any of MY customers at the MARINA I own here in Hooksett. I wouldn't subject them to this complete lack of professionalism.
When mid June arrived, I had not heard anything from Mike, so I called to touch bases and see if he wanted me to bring my boat in, or if he needed anything else in terms of information/details to help get the job underway. Mike's behavior was bizarre to say the least. His facial expressions, tone of voice, and general demeanor all but said he didn't want to do the job and frankly he just seemed like an unhappy person in general. It should be noted he consistently behaved this way each time we interacted with him, whether that be in person or over the phone.
At this point we had been waiting for 6 weeks and what choice did we have but to try and proceed? So I dropped my boat off and asked what the turnaround time would be, so that I can schedule my life and usage of my property. Mike explained he needed each boat for 1 week. The 1st boat was dropped off on Friday 6/19. He said he would call me on Monday 6/22, but never did. I called Mike on Thursday 6/25 to see if he needed me to drop off the 2nd boat.
What I got when I greeted him, said my name, asked how he was doing was "Not too good because I have to talk on the phone to you." I was at a loss for words, tried to lighten up the situation, and said he had a strange sense of humor. This was after dealing with his unprofessional behavior on multiple occasions leading up to the call. Mike said "You don't call me I'll call you" and hung up without so much as a goodbye. Apparently by Mike's standards it's OK to treat customers who've hired him for several thousand dollars worth of work in this manner.
And it's OK by Mike's standards to be rude and disrespectful answering questions about the work that will be carried out instead of providing responses in a professional manner to customers.
After spending a weekend reviewing this line of events my wife and I fired Mike Monday morning. When I went to pick up my boat I found the bow strap had been cut and sabotaged. Had I not pulled over a mile down the road to inspect my boat (because I wasn't going to spend any more time at his shop/home than necessary), the boat could have rolled right off the trailer and killed another motorist. Last time I checked that's criminal mischief. I own a marina, bow straps don't just fall apart. It was obvious he hadn't even started the job yet either.
I hope those who read this understand what type of individual Mike Pelletier is and the type of business he is running. Canvas people are difficult to find, but there is no excuse for this type of behavior from a business owner regardless of what the supply and demand within a particular industry is. read more
