I have eaten here a few times now. today I went for some sushi. i ordered two rolls and some nigiri. the nigiri came out with the fish looking old and like it had been sitting for too long. was disappointed. my rolls came out. the rainbow roll was good. but the second roll I ordered came out with a gross looking brown paste in the middle. it looked very unappealing, but I gave it a shot. I ate two of the 8 pieces. it was absolutely gross and tasted nothing like what the description had said. I informed the server. she said sorry about that I'll take it back to the kitchen. and without asking she took it away. I go to pay my bill and they refused to remove the roll from the bill and told me I had ordered it so I had to pay for it. she got very offended when I had told her that this roll was not very good and I could not even eat it. between the overpriced rolls and the attitude of the people there I will not be going back. read more

We were served our sushi and sashimi by a cat robot!!! I repeat, a cat robot!!!! It would have been worth it to eat here just for that, but the food is also delish, reasonably priced, and the staff are friendly, so we feel like we lucked out. Oh and the view of the water from the dining room is pretty too. My hubs and I are were on vacation on Vancouver Island and drove to Campbell River from Nanaimo for the day. Felt so good after a long drive to come to Miki's (it's in a nondescript strip mall, by the way) and have a delicious sit-down lunch. We enioyed the agedashi tofu, spinach gomae, pork gyoza, super fresh salmon sashimi, yellowtail tuna sashimi, tobiko sushi, and unagi sushi. Everything was tasty and the cat robot was truly the icing on the cake. $80 CAD came out to be $58 USD. Such a great lunch and deal!! Thanks, Miki and team! read more

Anywhere else and this restaurant would merit four stars. But here, in British Columbia where the competition is fierce on the food front, it is a three. It's a funky little place. It's upstairs, courtesy of a scruffy elevator ride, and while the staff are very personable and knowledgeable, the service was very casual indeed. Twice I needed to prompt the waitress to fetch a drink or to ask her to clear the table for the next course. To be clear, the food is not authentic Korean or Japanese, and there seems to be a heavy reliance on bottled sauces, but at the end of the meal, we were more than satisfied because the food is good, fresh and plentiful. Miki's is the place you go when out for a walk on the waterfront in yer flip flops and favourite shorts. We will be back next time we are enjoying a similar outing and get overtaken by a hunger for Asian-ish food and a chilly beer on a hot day. read more

Terrible. This place came highly recommended as we recently moved to Campbell River. Our first occasion my husband ordered it for take out. My order was a Spicy Tuna Roll and an Alaska Roll. When my husband went to pick it up they notified him they didnt have an Alaska Roll and made their version of it. You couldn't even make out a roll was underneath the half a cup of Sriracha sauce. The roll wasnt even salvageable. The other roll was some mystery roll I didnt bother wanting to try. My husband didn't care about his and ate whatever it was. On my second in person visit. My Mother convinced me to give it another go. As we walked in my 60 year old Mother slipped on their poorly washed greasy floor. Again, I tried ordering a Spicy Tuna Roll. Again, it was terrible. Even after asking for a smaller amount of Sriracha. The service was sub par. The bathroom didnt have any toilet paper. I most definitely will not return. read more

Been here twice, first time great, second time not so great. So far I can say that the portions are good, prices very reasonable, but quality and techniques seems to suffer when it gets busy. Staff have always been very friendly. It's my current go to for sushi, will report back. read more

If you read their health violations you'd be shocked. Every time I've tried eating here I've ended up sick for days. The restaurant is too crowded and the service is sub par, if that. They're the cheapest in town, but you get what you pay for. I'd rather pay the extra 5$ on my bill and go down the street to Sushi Mong. read more

This would get a outstanding rating, as the food was amazing....but the service and attitude from some of the staff on duty left a lot to be desired. Other than our server, Tasha ; the other staff, specifically a Brandy (*not fine with age) gave attitude when asked for refills on our water/coffee/tea...and it was not busy...other than them busy laughing and talking behind the counter. Serious RETRAINING on customer service would make this experience a 4 or 5 star rating. I will try again in a few months. read more

The waitress that served me and my family at Miki's was not welcoming. The sushi rolls were decent, not that special, they were small and had too much sauce for my taste. I didn't have a spectacular time here.. Would try it again but not for a while. To the review that disagreed with Arthur, I think that your review is bias. It's quick, inexpensive and will satisfy any sushi cravings. I've only had tuna rolls and agedashi tofu here cause I like to play it safe at new sushi places. They do a great job of these dishes! When coming into the restaurant it's kind of confusing and awkward cause you don't know if you should seat yourself or wait which it's annoying but other then that it's a good inexpensive sushi place! read more

Food was excellent as always. I asked for gluten free, even questioned everything I was ordering to be sure. When my food came i realized they gave me imitation crab. When I asked the server for real crab because pollock has wheat she looked at me like I was stupid and said it was fish. Clearly she doesnt know much about seafood, so let me school you a bit. Real crab is gluten free...Pollock's second ingredient is wheat! I understand the not knowing but don't question your customers about their own diet limitations when they obviously know what they can and can't have. read more

Miki's has definitely had some growing pains but it's still the best Japanese restaurant Campbell River has to offer when you consider how expensive Wasabiya is and how even MORE terrible the service/price at the original Sesame Sushi is. I'd break it down like this: Food: 10 Service: 7 Staff Friendliness: 10 (Miki is awesome!) Take out: 10 Price: 9 Atmosphere: 7 (yeah, it could be quieter) You're right, you're not in Kansas anymore (assuming Kansas has exceptional quality sushi restaurants), you're in CR which is the last outpost before you hit the boonies...yes! I also disagree with the negative review. Yes, restaurants can have off days but his long winded rant was unnecessary. Miki's Sesame Sushi is one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever had the pleasure of dining at. I've recently moved to Victoria and can't find a sushi place that comes close to the flavors that Miki's has. The rolls are amazing, the view is beautiful and Miki is a doll. Stopped in for lunch on a Wednesday...the food was average to good for a sushi restaurant. The cleanliness of the patio and restrooms was deplorable and the service was lack luster at best. I proceeded to this restaurant and i was in shock on actually how decently put together it was; a semi ocean view and all right decor. My friends and I only waited a few min to be seated. we browsed the menu and it read like a japanese sushi menu(had sapporo beer, and saki) with 3 other korean dishes at the bottom of the last page. and our servers were wicked fast to take our order, but it was hard for them to take our food and drink orders over the noise. Because of all the reflections of sound coming off the walls its reverberates like crazy even with a few people inside.(like 25 total including staff and i could hear conversation from across the room)restaurant needs to have some sort of wall baffles(to soak up sound reflections and standing waves) around the room so people can have an actual conversation with out yelling. i would never take a date here ever the atmosphere is like a noisy boston pizza.(except without tvs) getting back to the severs they seemed to be on the ball intuitive and assertive to the situation like good servers should. we received our food very quickly, but in out of eating order that makes sense logically. the chef dropped the ball on this one, the food came out for some quicker than others rather than at once like normal sushi places.(normal sushi places also offer you green tea and miso soup but im not in kansas anymore or am i?) so i ordered 2 rolls and a chicken teri bowl over steamed rice; my friends had bowl of beef teriyaki over a bowl of rice and 2 rolls, 2 prawn/tempura dishes, sunomono salad, a chefs pretentious special roll made by soaking hot sauce all over the rolls. so we received our sushi rolls and dishes individually with about 3-5 min gapes in between services (some of us had food, and some of us didn't at many certain awkward points in time of the evening). the dynamite rolls were way to big, they had too much rice, and the tasteless roll would fall apart just by going near my chop stick. the california roll was a mess as well. The cali roll contained 6 individual rolls which looked like a 6 pack of beer stuck together by the straight dryness and stickiness of the rice. i tried pulling them apart but the would just break the roll i was trying to eat and tear a chunk off the others around it(messy). my friends were having the same trouble and outcome when it came to their turn to eat( or when the chef felt it was time to let them have a turn to eat) messy dry, and much too large rolls to eat normally. finally i was the last one served i ordered the chicken teriyaki don bowl as you recall. it came to me on a hot plate and with vegetables for some reason instead of in a bowl like my friends did. As i started to eat i had a large crunch in my mouth, needles to say i spat it out. it was burnt rice my whole bed of rice was burn on the bottom like caramelized with oil, not krispy not crisp but burnt and the rice on top was over cooked. so when the waitress came and asked how everything was i told her my rice was burnt. she asked me if i would like another one refired it could be done. i told her no since i was the last to receive my dinner my friends are almost done and it just seems pointless now. so she apologizes and goes back. 30 seconds later the manager /owner comes back and tells me "thats how its cooked its crispy" as she try to convince me, i tell her "no its burnt, and japanese rice is not burnt. the owner/manager tried again to make me feel like i didn't know what chicken dons bowls were suppose to taste like. this i didn't like. but then she hounded me about eating it if she remade the rice, even after i already said to the original server i didn't want it. the manger more than annoyed me. i just wanted to get out of there so waiting for my friends to finish up i asked for a refill on my ice tea. the manger yells out for you its free! WOW thank you for my free refill i get anyways. this also annoyed me "cause it was like she was trying to do me a favor but she wasent i get it FOR FREE! so as we are paying i notice that they charge me for the chicken teriyaki don bowl with the burnt rice i didn't eat. needless to say i would never EVER go here again, nor would i EVEN recommend this to anyone. the website reads: korean Restaurant Soul Food Restaurant Seafood Restaurant which in person looked like a try too hard to be a sushi place with 3 korean BBQ dishes to order. OH and SOUL FOOD? don't make me laugh; no soul food on the menu or in sight. THIS PLACE HAS AN IDENTITY CRISIS and need to figure it out quick cause what could have been 4 new customers ended up being 4 people telling others not to eat here. one positive note, the servers kicked butt with what they had to work with. its hard with an unqualified chef and a manager who thinks she right. waitresses staff 1 so atmosphere 0 the food 0 the mangers/owner skills 0 the overall experience 0 1/5 read more

Seems that all of the screened reviews were good ones. So go ahead and make sure you read them too. My wife and i as well as many of our friends go there because of the good quality, reasonable service and reasonable pricing. I have also experienced errors, but it is rare. Is it perfect - no, is it the best I have ever had - no, but it was the best I have had in Campbell River. The nasty tirade shown is more reflective of a "bad day" on the part of the writer than a bad day at Miki's. Will I go there again - definitely yes. Would I still recommend it to friends - also definitely less. read more
