This is a magical place where you can put together your own garden from their garden. Water nymphs wander through the grounds caring for the wide variety of plants, and trained bees guide you to the best pollinators. Prices and variety are much better than at Stein's or any of the competition. They also have a good little café, decent espresso (but only disposable cups) and breakfast sandwiches, they sell Halloween decorations (I suppose they shift to other holidays), delicious locally grown mushrooms, they have some pots made from recycled ocean plastic garbage, and some very good deals on soil and mulch. After the recent snowfall in spring, I needed a little pick me up and going to Milaegers and seeing all their beautiful flowers did just that. Not only is their greenhouse huge, their outdoor area is a good place to get some landscaping ideas for the home. The employees are very knowledgeable and helped us find some shrubs that won't be dinner for the deer. After wandering around outdoors, head inside to the cafe to get a snack. read more

Garden store on the more high priced range, but their plants always perform! Their little cafe is also clean and the people working there are super nice. Good price on coffee with great taste. Lots of things to peruse and you could easily spend hours in here just shopping. And you'd find some awesome local deals and pretty things. read more

Milaeger's opened their outdoor Farmers' Market for the season on Sunday, but there were no farmers yet. There were a several food and craft/jewelry vendors, so we spent most of our time exploring the store itself. It was my first time there, and I was expecting it to be more of a garden center. I would say that is definitely the focus, but there other items as well for indoor décor, gifts, and accessories. The selection of plants and flowers is very impressive! It's seriously massive! I don't have time to take care of living things, so there was no point in me making any purchases, but my friend was snapping photos for ideas and reminders of items to come back for when she is ready to start her garden. This is a very cool store, and I might come back later this year to see the full blown Farmers' Market in action when produce is available, but I could see how people can get "trapped" in the store with so much to look at. read more

If you are familiar with and a fan of the town of Geneva in the Western suburbs of Chicago then this is the place for you up yonder North. :-) It is like all the fun & cute boutiques of Geneva, IL in one giant marketplace in Racine, WI. You could do gift shopping for yourself and many folks on your gift list all at Milaeger's. Boutique clothing, unique housewares and decor, scented soaps, candles, Christmas and seasonal decorations, cards and gift packaging...not to mention the giant greenhouses and outdoorsy stuff like bird feeders, wreaths, lawn decor, etc. Their greenhouse beauties are something to behold, for sure. And around Christmastime they have so many lovely arrangements of greenery, poinsettias and trees...you just have to see it to believe it. Some things can be quite pricey but there are inexpensive finds and deals to be had as well. They also have a small snack shop with bottled sodas/water, coffees and some food to tide you over as you spend hours wandering through all their aisles. They have a farmer's market on Sundays (I think from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.). with a variety of vendors of artisan foodstuffs, fruits/veggies, prepared foods/drink (a Bloody Mary bar! Yes, please!) It is my understanding it is year-round...but check their website to be sure. We most recently went in November and it was all indoors at that point...less "farmer" stuff but still plenty of goodies on top of all their other treasures. read more

They have your horticultural options covered for both inside and outside your home at very competitive pricing. You could literally complete a perfect backyard oasis at this one location alone with wood fired fireplace/pizza oven, comfy furniture for your deck, beautiful plants and flowers, herbs and vegetables, kitschy or refined lawn ornaments, in addition to a liter of premium booze and a few six packs of craft beer! There are even organic eggs to make your deviled egg apps to go with it! I decided to check this place out with my husband this weekend - I was looking to do some gardening and was kind of tired of going to the local Home Depot that has limited variety of flowers so my husband suggested this place. All I could say when I stepped into Milaeger's was O-M-G!!! There are so many variety of flowers that it I was in awe. There were so many varieties of perennials, annuals and shrub/trees that I had fun just looking through all of what they had. It was also nice that they had a lot of varieties of the same flower (like different colors) instead of the one kind of flower like they have at Home Depot. They also had a deal where if you buy 5 perennials, you get the 6th one for $0.01 - so depending on what you buy, it could only result in several dollars but it's still some money saved :-) Mileager's also had a lot of variety of vegetable plants, which is fantastic. I walked away with a bunch of vegetable plants that I'm excited to be fully grown so I can have home grown vegetables to eat. I will definitely be back to buy flowers & vegetables from Milaeger's. read more

If you're in the Racine area (or in the general vicinity) you must stop here. I brought a group of seniors here for a tour and shopping on a weekday afternoon. We had a wonderful time and no one left empty-handed. Group tours are beyond reasonably priced and the shopping can't be beat. You'll find something for anyone here...from accessories to beer. I found merchandise and plants to be competitively priced. I recommend the holiday season, but I'm sure visiting any time of year would be wonderful. read more

A friend turned me on to this place. I had no idea there was a winter market here on Sundays. This is the first year and I hear it's been a success. It's terrific since I can't make the Saturday markets most of the time. I have no bones about driving the 45 minutes. There's plenty of parking. In addition to the market, they offer shoes, clothing, accessories, patio furniture, plants, etc... You name it, they probably have. If you're hungary, they have a fantastic cafe that would please the meat eater and the health nut. It's easy to spend hours and just hang out. read more

My go to gardening HQ even though it's a 40 minute drive. Milaegers has the deepest plant selection, including many things that are hard to find in this area. They have several massive greenhouses including one for annuals, one for geraniums only, one for tropicals etc. The store itself is huge and has sections for gardening supplies, home decor, patio stuff and clothes for Women Of A Certain Age. They also have a small cafe for sandwiches and drinks. To me, the best part of Milaegers is the fact that they keep their plants up. So many times you buy plants that are root bound or dried out or scraggly - I have always gotten good stock here. I will say the prices are definitely higher than say Home Depot, but the perennials will come back year after year. Buy nice or buy twice! read more

Gift shop store is typical "door county style crap" with Chinese made "collectibles" that will be at home in any old spinster curio cabinet. The store also holds a small women's fashion department because, sure. The clothing offered is what one would expect from a landscape company's gift shop. They also have coffee. read more

Milaeger's has so much more to offer than just their high quality plants. We love visiting the Farmer's Market on Sundays (10-2pm) for local food, crafts, music, and bloody mary's. The have boutique clothing and shoe items in the store as well. Items are high end and come at higher end prices. I always look for sales. They do have a little cafe that is open during the day with sandwiches and coffee drinks. It's a great place to get holiday decor and even better for quality plants. You will also pay a little more than some other places. I fund that I compare and decide if the higher quality is better with the higher price tag depending on the item. Highly recommend! I am a loyal and long time customer of Milaeger's however this year I purchased $300+ of New Guinea Impatiens for my window boxes. I have I have purchased them for many years. This year they were horrible. I even replaced them and still horrible. At first I thought it was my miracle grown soil that I used but I then replaced them again with pentunias from Mileager's and they were awesome!!! The hi-quality shoe department with an actual PERSON to help you find the best fit: TIMELESS. The cafe with its delicious light fare of sandwiches and soups: REFRESHING. The events and classes: UNIQUE. The wine and chocolate selections: DIVINE. The homegrown masses of poinsettias and Easter lilies in season: EYE CANDY. not to mention the fragrance! The year-round tropical plant greenhouse: THERAPEUTIC. The wintertime twinkling display of dozens of fully themed and lit Christmas trees: ENCHANTING. It may be pricey on some points but there is always some small treasure to be found and everything is of the highest quality. I have never regretted ay purchase here. My family & I recently visited this MIlaeger's location as we have done many times before. This place has a little bit of everything for almost everybody from baby & women's clothing, to indoor & outdoor furniture, seasonal items, indoor & outdoor plants(which they grow mostly on site) & accessories, cards, wine & even a cafe. They also have weekly seminars & shows from fashion to their ever popular Christmas party that they have in November. This place is big & the way they have setup everything within their store it is not cluttered but very well thought up & very well done. This place is phenomenal; there is such a wide array of plants, outdoor (gardening, birding) products, home goods, and even fashion accessories (shoes, bags, jewelry) and clothing. I found the cutest rain boots here! With the exception of a few cashiers, the staff here are extremely helpful and friendly. Come for the Sunday Farmer's Market! It's not your standard fruit and veggies farmers market; there are all kinds of food and goods for sale. Milaeger's prices are a bit higher than other "home improvement" stores, but you can still find an occasional deal (like rain boots) and are sure to enjoy browsing. I love Milaeger's! read more
