If your own GP is full, off that day etc you can be seen by another unless you would rather wait to see your own at the next available opertunity, which is perfectly acceptable to the receptionists. There is a chemist next door to the practice which is very convenient. They also run a family planning clinic once a week and a couple of other more specialised clinics on a weekly basis - possibly a diabetes one. They have several practise nurses too, who are excellent - friendly yet professional. Appointment times are very well kept to, with my longest wait ever being a paltry ten minutes. I can't praise this place enough. There is plenty of free parking too.

I was seen in A+E very quickly, immediately sent up to the Surgical Assessment Unit as soon as a diagnosis was arrived at, operated and back home in less than 24 hours. All the doctors were very courteous and helpful and the nurses were always on hand.

The speed of discharges has vastly improved within the last couple of years - if they tell you you can go home in the morning, then you are usually good to go, prescriptions and all within a couple of hours. Food leaves an awful lot to be desired, but then who ever really fancies eating when in hospital?! There is a cafe, staff restaraunt (which patients may use) and a shop, plus various vending machines. A&E is a bit hit and miss with waiting times - can appear empty yet you wait several hours, but also can appear absolutely packed and you'll be seen within the hour. On the whole the entire hospital does the job it's supposed to, and usually with a smile! One word of warning - take change for parking with you. If you don't you are likely to pay a far higher price with a ticket and there really is very limited, if any off site parking in the surrounding area.

Great if you can see a Doctor but you need to be past the gatekeeper and to be honest, life is too short to waste high-quality time with low-quality people. Save yourself the disappointment and choose another surgery. They will tell you they are full if your face does not fit but look at the amount of patients they have compared to other surgeries in the area. Hmmmmm.

The two Doctors I've seen - Dr. Cramp and Dr. Roderic-Evans - are warm, friendly and completely patient-led. You can make appointments with them and the nurses in advance but they also have 10-15 same day appointments. To book one of those, you just phone up at 8.30am and keep ringing til you get through.

It's in this fairly affulent area and has a generally genteel user profile and thus is quite a pleasant place to attend. One word of warning: it's in an old Victorian building. If you have mobility issues and need help with acessibility, you'd be wise to choose a practice with a more modern facilities.

I was told it was a walk in system, so I went straightaway. The staff were all lovely. Very efficient. Everything running exactly as you would hope. There seemed to be a constant flow of patients, but not overwhelmed. I cannot speak highly enough of the treatment I received, and the people delivering it. Over the 3-4 years I've been in Brighton I have actually found myself there a fair bit, for routine appointments or more serious things, and I've had a range of experiences during my time there. The surgery itself is well laid out, comfortable and clean. The reception staff are helpful and generally pleasant, despite being very busy with the constantly ringing phones. There is an upstairs and downstairs waiting area, both of which are comfy enough. As you come into the surgery, you can check yourself in for your pre-booked appointment on the machine on the wall (under the stairs). This usually functions fine and is a smooth and easy way of letting the doctor or nurse know you're there. It also directs you to which seating area you should be waiting in, either upstairs or downstairs, so there's no confusion. The nurses I've seen here have all been wonderful. Very nice, very patient and not patronising at all. The doctors, on the other hand, are a bit of a mixed bag. I've seen a few that are a little abrupt and slightly condescending. I understand that they must have a lot of time wasters and hypochondriacs coming in (as with any doctors surgery) but it's never nice to be made to feel foolish for booking an appointment. That being said, I was once really rather ill here and I found myself getting a taxi straight from the surgery to A and E. On this visit, the staff (including the doctor) were all very attentive and not patronising in the slightest (perhaps because of my serious condition). They got me water and sent me with a handwritten letter explaining what was wrong - all very kind and professional. Since this incident I have always been treated very well in here, again perhaps because they can see from my files that I'm worth taking seriously. In terms of booking appointments, this is relatively straight-forward to do over the phone and there are usually slot available pretty quickly, especially if you express that it's an urgent thing. The appointments are also pretty on time which, as anyone who's ever been to a doctors surgery knows, can be a bit of a rarity! All in all, I like this practice. I might look at others closer to my new flat, yes, but for now, I am more than happy to stick with Albion Street Surgery. They may not be the most perfect doctors surgery in the world, but they're certainly not the worst and I'd say they were doing a pretty good job of things.

I have never had problems here and the system has always been very helpful in times of need. Would definitely recommend if you live in the vicinity. Otherwise, you can apparently now choose the surgery you most desire, so if you're well enough, go to this one.

I have found the team at BHWC to be fantastic - yes it can be a bit of a wait if you want to book an appointment in advance, however if you call at 8.30 in the morning you can be seen the same day. The drs and nurses here are very understanding and are open to not necessarily always taking a medicinal approach to any issues or ailments - this isn't to say they are a bunch of hippies! But they look at every option. I have to say I'm very pleased so far.
