I found out that the AAA offices in Fairfield and New Haven Counties no longer offer the service, so I was DREADING the long lines at the local DMV. Luckily, I stumbled upon DMV Express in Milford. It's part of Nutmeg Credit Union. Wow! I was greeted pleasantly upon entering and shown a computer kiosk where I signed in and paid the $8 "convenience fee." (I like to think of it as the "Well, this doesn't suck" fee.) That's waived for members of the credit union. I only had to wait 5 minutes, which is amazing, since the regular DMVs were all closed, this being a Monday. I was waited on by another very nice person who took care of the paperwork and photo and gave me a temporary license. (CT now sends permanent licenses out from a secure location, so they can take up to 20 days. The temp one is good for 30 days.) The location is convenient, with plenty of parking and the inside is bright, clean and cheerful with plenty of comfortable seating. It's really nice to know that the next time I need to renew my license, I don't have to enter DMV Hell to do it.

This is one helluva great monument in a very unexpected location…read more. Incongruously, on a strip of grass smack in the middle of downtown Milford, they appear like ghosts. What they are, in fact, are five detailed and very life-like bronze sculptures that honor the men and women who served their country during World War Two. Frozen for all time, you'll see a kneeling Marine with his rifle, a pilot with a flight helmet, goggles, and a parachute, A WAC (Women's Army Corp) dressed in a jacket, skirt, jacket, and cap, a Navy sailor wearing a life jacket, and a kneeling Army soldier with his rifle and canteen. The level of detail in the faces, uniforms, and accessories are extraordinary. The monument's simple inscription reads: DEDICATED TO ALL WHO SERVED 1941 - 1945 WORLD WAR II The monument was dedicated in 1995 to mark the 50th anniversary of the end of the war.
