The Owner (or whomever was working 3/20/23) is the worst! I took a photo of a small piece of art that I was going to purchase for someone. She then got inappropriately mad, and started harassing me for it, so I left. She then told my mother whom I was there with, "he just left, so you should follow." So basically, we got kicked out for taking a photo of a photocopied sloth. So weird! It was a cheap little 11" copy, that she didn't even paint. I adore this place. I stumbled on it the first time I came to New Orleans and bought a bunch of handmade jewellery (you can see jewellery being made by the artists right while you're shopping!). I also bought 2 absolutely beautiful headbands. I can't remember the name for them right now, but it had feathers and jewels. The second time I came to New Orleans I was dying to check this place out again. I couldn't remember the name of it, but remember the general area that it looked like. I was so happy when I finally stumbled upon it and made sure to bookmark it on Yelp for next time! Although they did have a lot of the same jewellery I bought last time, there were some new pieces as well. They also have a wide range of standard souvenirs (magnets, shirts, mugs etc.). I have been to NOLA quite a few times and I always make a point to run down to the market and visit David and his table. These coasters are very cool...a little taste of New Orleans and David is sure to give you a little history of each coaster you look at. Great gifts and very good quality. Added bonus...just sent them a photo and they will make coasters for you! For the amount of money I spend drinking and eating my way through New Orleans on a 4 day jaunt....it's always nice to take a lil' of NOLA home besides an extra 5 lbs and a hella hangover. They make the cutest coasters & magnets! It's a couple that owns this business and they have a lil' studio here where they're made. They also sell them @ the French Market. He does the photography and she makes them by hand, one by one. They knew they were on to something when locals brought in vintage items (shopping bags, photos, etc) to create into coasters. All of their designs represent New Orleans and its history, it's really cool! If you're looking into a great souvenir to bring back home, these are great! Especially since they're locally made in New Orleans! I bought a 4 coaster set and he threw in a magnet for my lagniappe, whatta sweet surprise! They're super heavy duty and well made. Even our bed & breakfast had them in our room to use as coasters. We wondered where we could get a set and lo' & behold, we happened to run across them while shopping. read more

Milk Studio has a stand at the French Market and was my one stop shop for gifts and a souvenir for myself on a recent trip. Milk Studios makes coasters, trivets and magnets with vintage art and images of NOLA. But not the crappy touristy stuff that you wonder what to do with later. More like the creative vintage homemade stuff that you keep and remind you of happy memories in a great city. The gentleman running the booth, David I believe, has plenty of local stories to go along with each image and his friendly use of "Dawlin" and "Sweethart" makes you want to keep buying more from him! His story of he and his partner reinventing their careers after Katrina is inspiring and his "lagniappe" (a little something extra) of a free magnet, made me walk away not only happy with my creative homemade purchases, but also feeling happy about who I was buying them from. I would suggest checking out Milk Studios at their storefront or at the French Market. I can guarantee it will be a great experience. read more

After doing a bunch of souvenir shopping on our last day of vacation I still hadn't found anything I wanted, when lo and behold I spy a Panda de los Muertos shirt in a storefront. What? They didn't have it in my size, but they were happy to print one up for me ASAP. And it was still only $18. For a custom printed shirt that was done in less than an hour. Tons of other great stuff here- the designs are quirky but classy, and a refreshing change from all the "I Got Bourbon-faced on Shit Street" shirts in all the other shops. My last visit to NoLA was basically a shopping trip. Of all the clothing spots I went to--Milk is my absolute favorite. The people are really nice. I got a skull and crossbones fleur de lis screened hoodie. At this point it's been through the wash a couple times and it's still in great shape. I can't wait to go back!!! read more

This sweet little shop on Decatur St. has a very nice selection of handmade gifts and souvenirs made in New Orleans by New Orleanians. They have t-shirts designs that you can't find anywhere else, some delicious soy-based candles, a collection of coasters and magnets that are made on sight featuring classic New Orleans images. I've bought some fun accessories here, too. Every time I am in the area I stop in and every time there is something new to look at, I love that!! read more

I love these coasters! I've picked up a few on several trips to New Orleans, and they are awesome. They're great quality and a pretty creative souvenir that is practical and can be kept out on the table all the time. They're very fun, and the seller has always been very friendly and helpful. I think that every time I'm in town, I'll get a new one. Similar coasters that I bought on my fist trip (also at the French Market) haven't held up very well. Their finish gets a melty and sticky, causing the coasters to stay on my glass as I pick it up. It's worth the extra couple bucks to buy from Milk! read more

Somewhat off the beaten path, almost near the awesome local music scene of Frenchmen St is Milk Studios. They are minimalist compared to some of their cheesy tchotchke neighbors with a good portion of their shop being their studio. Offering interesting designs on American Apparel t-shirts, magnets & coasters made in-house which boast the eclectic and obscure NOLA and other fun accessories. Best of all are their candles! Soy-based with gorgeous scents (think Jo Malone) and named after neighborhoods and points of interest in the city. I bought Storyville, French Market and Oakmoss on my last trip and can't wait to sample more! This is definitely a shop to hit whether you're a visitor or local! read more

This is a story of terrific customer service. I stopped by the Milk Studio stand at the French Market. David (if I recall correctly) handles the Market stall and his girlfriend runs the studio on Decatur. The French Market stand features lots of coasters and magnets with photos of famous landmarks of NOLA. Very nicely done. I didn't want to buy them just yet so came back a few days later. A few of the ones I wanted (Spotted Cat, Hotel Monteleone) were sold out. David took my address and said he would start making the coasters for me that day and mail them to my house. They take three days to make. I paid for everything. He gave me a break on the shipping because I had come back. I left for home the next day on a Saturday. By the end of the week, I received my coasters. Very cool and they look great. read more

I really like this store. I bought a delicious candle - tea leaf and jasmine - soooo good! And it's soy, which is much better for you when burning. The best part? 1 for $13, 2 for $20. Insanely cheap for a candle of this quality! You'd pay 3x as much in Chicago. And the woman who rang me up (I think she was the owner) was incredibly nice. This is one of those examples in New Orleans of the owners making the business special. The couple that owns Milk Studio are some of the nicest people to chat with in the Quarter. Like many people in the city, they were both doing other things pre-K and decided to follow their true passion after the storm. They have great creations in their studio/store and even set up a booth with their coasters in the French Market on the weekends. You will find similar coasters to these throughout New Orleans, but these are the real deal. They take their own pictures and put them on to the coasters, whereas many other vendors just use images they find on Google. He is also willing to take an image you have (streetcar picture, old shopping bag, old New Orleans sign, etc.) and create a coaster for you. Visit their studio just a block off the French Market to find many unique gifts to take home or give to a NOLA lover. This is a usual stop I make with guests to find truly unique take-home items. I have bought homemade postcards, necklace charms, and t-shirts all from their store. If you have some time, be sure to talk to the owners who are very sweet and unique characters themselves. read more

So many of the stores in NO offer nothing but complete junk from China that no one really wants, however, I really enjoyed visiting Milk Studio. The merchandise is quality, the clerk exceptional and it has reasonably priced items. My experience at Milk Studio was a 5 star'er for me! That alone is worth every penny spent. :) Anyway I was sent on a mission while visiting on a business meeting to find NOLA Keepsakes for each of the meeting attendees. I found their site online; I asked the hotel contact where this was located and he then drove me there. This is when I met the owners, David and Mindy Jennings. They were so helpful in assisting me when I said "I need to find out how much 92 tiles were along with the 23 screen printed bags. Can you help me?" Since most of their tiles are located at the nearby French Market, David grabbed a box and off we went for me to pick through the many various tiles aka coasters. As you can imagine to my surprise there were many to choose from; plus my hotel friend who drove me to the shop had bought me an "ice ball" not an ice cone as I was brought up calling them (if you get one you will notice the difference.lol) and was melting red all over the place! Finally, I was done and were headed back to the shop to wrap up this transaction.
