This place has seen better days aesthetically. When you walk in it just looks sticky and old. The tables aren't clean. The floor isn't clean. The bathrooms- just don't. There is cool artwork on the ceiling and walls but the sofas look so tattered and old I wouldn't sit on them. Seldom are there people hanging out here. There is no music which is awkward. The service is okay but there is only ever one employee working so prepare to stand in line if there are multiple patrons. They used to have a variety of food options and a kitchen but their food menu has been reduced to mostly scones and muffins. It's clear that cleanliness is not a priority to the managers here. It's sad because the coffee is not bad. I would even say they have the best coffee of all the coffee shops in Botetourt. Sometimes the espresso has a charred aftertaste but it works. read more

Traveling through Troutville and revisited this little gem today. Great service and their peachy coconut lemonade and iced cappuccino was amazingly! Will visit again when passing by. read more

We were looking for a good place for coffee within walking distance of our hotel, and it seemed that Mill Mountain was a good match. This place had been raved about by locals, and it seems to also be a great destination for the Appalachian Trail hikers. It's neat on the inside, where you can find multiple coffee bean dispensers and an old-timey coffee grinder on display. It's cozy with a couch, leather chair and checkerboard if you're wanting to hang out for a bit. We were fortunate to visit this Virginia staple twice on our trip. They do have pretty great coffee. I got a frappe both times, one with mint chocolate and the other with white chocolate. Speaking of which, they have a very extensive menu of flavors you can add, such as cherry, gingerbread and kiwi. The only thing I was a little bit iffy about was how they made my frappe totally different the second time, with wayy too much ice to where it didn't taste as great. The first time it was fantastic though...hopefully that is the way they normally make it! If you're hungry, they've got a display full of pastries along with a big selection of breakfast. I tried and the sausage, egg and cheese sandwich that was pretty good. It was nice that you could choose the meat and the type of bread. Definitely something to try if you are in the Roanoke area. read more

Terrible customer service. The man who was taking my order didn't say a word to me when I walked up to the counter. He just looked at me until I asked him how he was doing to which he ignored me. He then proceeded to just shake his head when responding to questions I was asking him about the menu. read more

We were driving north on Rt 81 and needed a coffee. Most of the local coffee shops close at 3pm. Luckily, we yelped Mill Mountain which closes at 5pm. We stopped there and I had the ice coffee that hit the spot. My wife had the Irish cream hot coffee and she liked that it was roasted that way and not a flavor shot. The barista was very friendly and we spoke about how and where they roast their own coffee. I also purchased a pound of the Italian coffee. read more

Meh. Stopped in for breakfast yesterday AM and was less than impressed.... Their stock of fresh baked items was nearly non-existent and they didn't have bagels, biscuits, etc. The guy behind the counter informed me that they don't get deliveries until Monday or something (I can't fully remember the reason) but I was put off by it considering it was Sunday and I'd wager people want biscuits and bagels on Sunday, wtf?!? I got a 16oz. dirty chai which was basically nothing but fluff and 1/4 actual drink, some breakfast potatoes and made my own sandwich which had egg, bacon, swiss cheese, leafy greens, cucumber, and tomato on wheat. It took a minute to get but was pretty decent when it came out. My two companions ordered various other sandwiches and said it was OK but they wouldn't choose to come back again. I tend to like MMC for lunch or a late light meal but breakfast was a let down at this particular location. I prefer the Starkey Rd. location over off 419.... I'll continue to frequent that one in the future. read more

The selection of various countries' coffee mounted to the cafe wall is a cool touch. Having been to Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Cuba, it's nice to have a refreshing look and smell of all of the world coffees. I asked for a iced latte with almond milk and iced mocha. Both came out as nice as the staff. By my second visit, they knew my name and order. Great spot to spread out and chill on any number of their couches. Don't forget to try some of their pastries; I was able to snag a deal with a late morning treat in a discounted cinnamon roll. You can't beat a dollar for a giant cinnamon roll. This is also an excellent spot for Appalachian Trail thru-hikers to hang out, charge your electronics, and visit the outfitter next door. With any review, I like to offer any (sometimes unrealistic) recommendations. Coconut milk as an alternate milk option would be a nice addition. Otherwise, this place is totally worth a visit. read more

this place is great! stopped in on a road trip through town and got a couple coffees and a blueberry scone! the baristas were very kind, and the atmosphere was inviting to a pair weary travelers. you MUST get the blueberry scone, and definitely an iced latte as well. i'm not in love with the americano i got, but it's still better than starbucks or other northeastern fare. read more

I have been to the Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea on several occasions, I am surprised someone hasn't written a review already. I am not a big fan of a bunch of fancy gourmet type coffee, I am just a simple give it to me black Coffee kind of guy. I don't like really strong burnt tasting coffee so I always specify what I want when I go there and they always get it to me just right. I have eaten here on several occasions and have not been disappointed, I usually get the Chicken Salad it has Cranberries, and Nuts and has a very good taste. I'm a big guy and the portion is plenty even for me. I have had more than one business meeting here, they have a couple different areas with couches and arm chairs and it makes for a cozy place to sit and chat. It can be kind of a yuppie place at times, I was in there the other day and there was a guy doing his taxes, I don't know but isn't home a better place to display all your deductions. I guess some people just need to get out while performing such a stressful job. The Botetourt Views Cathy Benson also makes this her office I believe on Wednesdays and if you have an article or pictures you want to submit for publication Cathy will be there ready to get them on the Views Blog and they make just make it in the paper as well. I have seen a guy in there with a dog that is pretty incredible, I would have to say I have seen kids that didn't behaved as well as this dog. If you give the dog a piece of trash he will take it over to the trash can and throw it away for you. The dog is very friendly and nice however its a little weird to see a dog in a restaurant. What a fabulous coffee and cafe! We were traveling on 81 during the holidays and were delighted to discover that they were open on Christmas Eve. I could not be happier to have heard so! Even though the traffic is awful for that exit and the lights and roads are confusing, it was definitely worth it for lunch and coffee. The service was delightful and polite. The baristas made us a delicious mocha and dirty chai. The offer soy milk as a dairy alternative - great! Our lunch was excellent. My sandwich was filling and his wrap actually filled him up! Both portions were generous and fairly priced. The atmosphere was great. It was a relaxing but cool interior. Great place to stay to read/study if it was a local spot. This will definitely remain a go-to stop for traveling on 81. Both ladies and gents will love the food, drinks, and atmosphere with such great employees at Mill Mtn! read more

Be VERY clear about your coffee order, you'll get a cup o' foam with a little espresso at the bottom. wa. I should have realized that my "large" latte seemed to *levitate*. The selection of baked goods is pretty lean = and NO GLUTEN FREE stuff, so I probably won't be back for a while until the kitchen updates the food options. . GREAT place for AT hikers though. Huge covered front porch/sidewalk area to spread out and relax, pretty good lunch menu (if you are not vegetarian or G-free). read more

Terrible. Every time w go, our order is wrong and they dont have many offers--like bananas, lemons. But they are in the same shopping center as a grocery store. I ordered oatmeal and iced tea and they managed to butcher both. Had to just throw the odd, mystery iced tea out bc it was u drinkable. Unacceptable. read more

Since when is hey man a proper greeting for any customer? I am loyal to this place for two reasons. The coffee is outstanding and it was Boteourts first coffee shop. The customer service would be in last place on the list reasons to patronize this establishment. Have been here once before... the curry chicken sandwich on wheat was delicious. Today I ordered the house chicken salad and the salad was not what was described on the menu. I thought the management would want to know... the counter waitress was defensive. Just thought management would want to know that something was missed. Great coffee from great people. Sometimes they move a little slow on the food but that's because they make it fresh to order, can't complain there. The sweet tea of the day is always amazing and an interesting touch. My favorite is the snow monkey plum, if you see it... TRY IT! You can't go wrong with any of the drinks here. This wasn't my go to Mill Mountain (I usually went to the one downtown) but it was always a nice place to go out and study near Hollins. It wasn't perfect, but on nice days it had outside seating, which we usually took advantage of, and it had plenty of seating inside for less friendly weather. Like all of the Mill Mountain locations, they had a lot of tea options for people like myself, and always had a few ready to go if you didn't want to buy a whole pot of tea or wait for something fresh to brew. read more

My husband and I were traveling and looking for a good cup of coffee and small breakfast. We accidentally found Mill Mountain Coffee and Tea in Daleville, Va. We were amazed at the wonderful fresh coffee, the excellent service, and the outstanding omelet (cooked to perfection as ordered), and the wonderful customer service we received. Sure wish we had a franchise like this in our area. We are saturated with Starbucks on every corner. What a pleasant surprise to have a full coffee and tea shop with coffee that tasted so good, and no so strong it would knock your head off like Starbucks. We both love strong coffee, but not when you cannot drink it because it is almost burnt tasting it is so strong. If we had a shop like Mill Mountain, it would give Starbucks a run for its money.
