We visited again about a week later for their Doxie Derby races! They hold this race once a year and all the proceeds go towards miniature dachshund rescues! The races were loaded with weinie dogs everywhere! So many doggos! This was the third year of the races and I will say I don't know if Millcreek Commons is the best location to host them as it was a bit cramped and unorganized. The food trucks were hard to find in the back of the venue and there was completely chaos from the lack of line organization. It was still a fun event for sure, and you can tell everyone was enjoying themselves! read more

The ice skating rink was super fun! The tickets were easy and getting skate rentals was fast. The rental skates are terrible so bringing your own is recommended. Also they should provide a place to fill up water. People get thirsty while skating and our water ran out before the time was complete. Overall, this was a fun experience and will definitely come back! read more

My bf and I came here for the 2:30 p.m. session to ice skate on a Saturday. The rink was busy but probably not sold out. They give you 90 mins to skate which was plenty of time for us. We went ahead and reserved online anyway and I'm glad because it saved a couple mins of time at the window. We both had to size down one size in our skates from our normal shoe size to get a snug fit. I recommend this so you can skate better! We had a great time but the ice is a bit choppy and it doesn't appear that they resurface/smooth it out in between time slots. There are a ton of small kids digging into it with their skates. lol... Overall a fun activity but def dress warm! And don't expect slick ice. read more

I recently learned a new term called "collective effervescence". It's a little bit hard for me to describe in written words, but it's basically a concept that describes when a community comes together and collectively participates in the same event or experience, creating a "collective effervescence" of unity, community, good vibes, and happiness. I don't know if I described that well enough, but that's how I feel whenever I go to Millcreek Common! Everyone is experiencing such a fun time, everyone is so friendly and happy, and everyone of all ages and backgrounds come together to this space to have fun. They have a larger loop and a smaller inner circle for beginners who aren't ready for the larger loop and for people to practice their tricks. It's SO much fun watching people who start out as beginners get the hang of things, and also a blast watching the more established skaters practice their tricks and dance moves. In the winter, Millcreek Common has an ice skating loop, and in the summer, they have a roller skating loop. Admission is $7 per person, and you can rent skates for $5 or bring your own skates. Pizza Nono just recently opened up and Normal Ice Cream has their food truck there as well. We did the whole experience last weekend and skated for hours, got pizza, and ate ice cream. The pizza from Pizza Nono is delicious and of course, Normal always has delicious flavors. They do have a limited number of options of flavors/composed cones at the truck. There's also a little splash pad in the summer for the kiddos. I love that this space gathers community of all ages. So grateful this place exists! read more

Today's opening of Millcreek Common coincided with Juneteenth 2022. Such a fitting occasion and family friendly setting. And, you couldn't ask for more perfect weather :) The Juneteenth program started with a flag raising. The Mayor of Millcreek declared the week of June 19th for honoring this significant time of American history. The President of NAACP also welcomed the audience and encouraged everyone to register to vote. It was heartwarming to see the community come out to support art, culture, food, dance, and of course roller skating. Families brought their children, teenagers came out to enjoy the festivities, and best of all, the neighborhood had a chance to hear the history behind this federal holiday. Utah made this a state holiday this year. Thank you to the organizers for a successful family event. Thank you to the sponsors because I know participants enjoyed winning prizes. Very fun spot especially if you're bringing kids! They have roller blading and a splash pad for warm weather months and ice skating in the winter. Ice skating and roller blading lessons are available too. Check their website for the different community events that they host, usually for free. The Millcreek City Hall building has art installations inside along with a Millcreek Coffee Roasters location and local makers markets on certain days (right now they have them on Sundays). Excited to see when they open the outdoor climbing wall too -- it will be the tallest outdoor climbing wall in all of Utah!! read more

Such a fun and pleasant place to host a roller skating party at! My daughter used to do roller derby here, so it was very fun!

This new ice skating rink opened up recently in the heart of Millcreek. The only other outdoor ice skating rink in the Salt Lake area is the one in downtown, Gallivan Center. The price for admission is only $7 and skate rentals are an additional $5. Limited parking is available in the front of the rink, however, behind the rink, there is a whole lot of available parking. The rink itself is more like a path rather than a large oval. There is a small circle in the edge of the path, but most of it is kind of a narrow, windy path. There isn't much of a railing on the sides of the rink, except around certain points of the path. There are cute lit up trees around the path and rubber areas to walk on and places to sit. I'm not sure if it's certain days or every day, but there is a DJ at the rink. This was my first time ice skating with a DJ and it definitely made it more fun! Next to the rink, there is a large building where you get your skate rentals and admission wrist bands on the first floor and on the second floor, there is an overlooking patio available. I've heard you're able to buy hot chocolate there, but not sure if you can because I did not go into the building, but maybe that is where you can buy food and drinks! Overall, it's a very cute date spot. Not a rink for figure skating or any technical type of tricks, but definitely one for aesthetics, a fun casual time, or a place to hang out! read more

There is no handicapped parking. While the city is trying to create a community place for events and gatherings not everyone can attend. I'll work with the state since this is a violation of ADA regulations. If you have any physical challenge DON'T waste your time trying to gain access. SHAME on a city ! It's a safe place to learn new skills compared to the cracked, uneven concrete surface at Liberty Park. The free skating lessons on Monday nights are awesome! I went from 1 to 7 on the scale of 1-10 for backward skating after just one lesson! Watch out for the biting bugs though. The recent precipitation has given rise to the bug population. I got a small bug bite on my right calf while skating or perhaps during a break a few nights ago, which became infected and turned into cellulitis. Bring bug spray, wear clothing treated with bug repellent and have fun! read more
