I have looked for a good Traditional Karate school similar to the school I attended back east but have come up short. Finally I found Arizona Shotokan in Glendale and met the head instructor Tom Hyder. Mr Hyder was very friendly and polite I was impressed by his knowledge and instruction in Traditional Karate. I travel 2 hours round trip just to attend karate classes believe me there are tons of karate schools that I pass on the way there but none of these schools compare to the instruction taught at Arizona Shotokan. It's not just about paying tuition and attending a class they really are genuinely interested in helping you learn and improve. Plus all the students their have made feel super welcomed. I feel at home. They are also internationally recognized by one of the most traditional organization in Japan, Karatenomichi World Federation KWF. If you want to train in karate as they do in Japan this is the place to go to.

He ignored me for several minutes, yelled at children to stay quiet so he could conduct business, and did not greet me at all. This was advertised as an adult kickboxing class, yet only children were present. When I asked about the class, the instructor seemed confused and started calling people to see if anyone was coming. My boys came in to this gym with zero experience , my oldest son has drop about 20 pounds and put on about 10 pounds of muscle. He does catch wrestling Monday and Wednesdays, MMA and jujitsu Tuesday, and Thursdays. Again I highly recommend this gym they're amazing.
