Not only that, but what I learned while at the Dojo transcends the content itself as I learned how to truly learn. My first job is using a framework that I had never heard of before and in a language I had never used. Since I was able to go through the 3 full stacks, I got a big picture view of a typical full stack and was able to apply that to learning the things I needed to. I've had a lot of positive feedback at work with how quickly I'm moving and the quality of my code for a Junior Developer. I feel confident that I got all of the skills I needed at the Dojo. Other opportunities developed out of my time at the Dojo which have had a positive impact on my development and the community. My advice if you do the same is get plenty of sleep the night before and take plenty of notes. I was fortunate enough to land a job through the school before I even graduated, I went from a job I disliked with no benefits to a career I enjoy and health and dental benefits. I tell myself all the time I wish 20 year old me went to school instead of 30 year old me but better late than never. Jimmy, bob, bill, and the rest of them are good guys.

Jimmy the owner seems like he genuinely cares and wants to know you after you leave the doors. My one complaint is the business is hard as hell to break into. I did ok in the school I thought I have followed every piece of advice to get into the field but cant crack into it. Basically the school is great I think if your a young person who can work for literally nothing or very little and don't need any benefits its a good investment. If your older like me, mid 30's, and are trying to get into a new field most companies have been hesitant to give me any kind of chance because my job wont let me take a part time job and I cant afford to take the paycut to strictly work in this industry. So know if you choose this industry you must be willing to have no benefits and very little pay for at least one year. Been visiting SAGU for about 10 years now and most of my friends go to SAGU but many don't voice…read moretheir opinions because of how controlling their staff is. I know many wonderful professors that go to SAGU and if you are wanting to go into ministry or music or maybe even film then this a good school for that. The communities can be very close knit here and they have a few great amenities like the wellness center. All that said, I will never be attending SAGU for a variety of reasons. Although they've become more lenient through the years, the rules and restrictions at SAGU are insane. There is no room for personal choice or responsibility and that is important and healthy for kids to be able to exercise their own free-will. But SAGU doesn't want that because they'd rather appease their idealistic board and uninvolved sponsors who are all 55+ in age. They also continue to spend money on things that make them look really fancy but don't really help the students that are already there. Like thousands of dollars on another Jesus statue. The worst of it is things you won't here about unless you're actually on campus and happen to meet someone involved in SAGU's many and frequent scandals. Not allowing students to walk for a variety of unscrupulous reasons. Pressing rules harder on kids with scholarships but turning a blind eye to kids who are having their tuition paid in full. Assault that was covered up to protect the image of the school. I think the biggest problem with SAGU or me is how they value their image so sacredly that its at the expense of their students. The dramatic cases put aside, you cannot justify the strictness of this school and this model is not just old-fashioned but obviously not working. When you care so much about wether you're students are playing COD or if they put a Drake song on their instagram story but then you ignore when there are much worse problems that you just don't want to face. If you go to SAGU you will find a community and you will get the connections needed for ministry or worship for sure. Every one of my friends who graduated SAGU has found a full-time position at a church, good friends, and some even a spouse. Just be prepared for some very high and dubious standards that will hopefully continue to fall away as the years go by.
