The newest Pokémon card sets are nearly impossible to find elsewhere, yet somehow, Chris's Comics always has them in stock. They also buy cards--something I plan on taking advantage of soon--and sell singles for collectors looking for specific finds. My wife loves her stuffies so walking in and seeing a display stand of stuffables was a treat. We both play D&D on occasion and their dice selection was a lovely surprise for the both of us. What's even crazier, is that during said events, you're never pressured to buy anything. How do they make a profit? I'm not sure either. Seriously though, the place is super welcoming and patient with nerds of all types. Whether you're dipping your toes into nerd culture or want to dive in face first, they've had an answer and anecdote for nearly every geeky genre that has ever pique a nerd's interest. This kind of dismissive behavior isn't uncommon in comic book shops. Having been a regular reader for years, I can confidently say there's a certain hipster element embedded in comic culture that lacks the self-awareness that the "better-than-you" attitude is a dime a dozen. I place my weekly pulls with Casablanca Comics, where the staff are not only enjoyable to talk with, but actually remember your name and want to help. This shouldn't discount the efforts of the other, surely more personable employees--nor at least a visit or two to check out their selection--but it definitely detracts from any kind of regular patronage.

The owner is extremely knowledgeable. I had a bunch of questions the last time I visited, and he was very patient with me. He answered all my questions. They also have a bunch of card games and board games. In the past, I stopped in and there were a bunch of folks in a side room playing an online video game. Unfortunately, COVID had a bit of an impact on that business. It sounded like they are trying to work out a new contract to get that going again.

I remember a day here which was very exciting for a young author…read more He was brought before me, and we were introduced, "Dan Browne, this is David Field." I said "hello," rather than "Can you lend or give me a few million bucks." Of course, at that time he hadn't released the "Da Vinci Code" so I guess he wasn't quite as rich as I'd hoped. I was introduced because I'd bought his pre-DaVinci novels and liked them - especially the one about computers. Browne was very pleasant, and I've read the Da Vinci Code since then and liked it far more than his critics. Maybe they needed a book to hate. And the bookstore! The proprietor, Dan, is an extremely friendly guy, and seemed to be able to remember all the books I'd bought. The store has a large selections of books for all interests, and the staff pics I bought unknown turned out to be great recommendations. You may be soured on books from the chain stores - visit Water Street books and see how well a bookstore can be when the owners have a passion for books.
