Each and every time I have consumed breakfast food because I could! This place makes muesli delicious- even though some would argue that this is impossible however I consumed the most amazing muesli ever here. Poached eggs with beetroot and ricotta- they have that too and it sure is yummy! A few more flavours of tea wouldn't go astray however considering their already broad and varied menu, I think I'll let them off this once. As we have established, the food is brilliant but so is the location- ridiculously hip and a trendy place to be seen, some would argue that this place errs a little on the pretentious side of things and yes it does walk a fine line but it does so very well! The staff leave a little to be desired- as others have mentioned that could all probably do with a happy pill or two but hey, if they bring me my food and it's that tasty, I'm going to put up with their up-side-down smile for now! I'll be back again though- that's for sure!

Review for upstairs fringe venue:…read more A low rumble....As if the earth was stirring for something memorable. A slight tension cuts the air. The familiar echoes of a jovial Friday night. We are in Adelaide at the Store on Melbourne Street to see a funny man! His name is Ben Darsow (known in the East as 'he who sells out awesome fringe shows'!). Who would've known we'd be in for an hour of hilarious quips and great stories?! Such a great show. The audio in the venue was well balanced, the decor is funky and it's well within walking distance of heaps of great eateries and watering holes. I feel a little sad that i only saw one show here, I've been told that during the fringe season they've been running between 2 and 4 shows most nights, quite successfully with various comedians in tow. The Store will be running shows (presumably comedy) again in 2016 and I for one will definitely be back! Now that I've seen the upstairs, I'm also looking forward to round 2, trying the downstairs food and service!

They have chosen the right place to set up shop too. They are offering a modern styled cuisine in an area that is traditionally serving German and pub styled food. So for the locals, I am sure that it is a breath of fresh air. The restaurant is earthy styled with the use of a wooden cladding, furniture and decorated tree branches. The walls are painted in blackboard paint and cool chalk art is on display. They have a really creative menu; I was fortunate enough to try the prosciutto wrapped nectarine served with a salad full of yummy fetta, radish, mint and lettuce. It was a real treat, sweet and salty, and just the way I like it! If you are after a coffee and cake, this is also a really lovely destination. They served Kitchen 2C branded coffee and a beautiful selection of cakes and cookies. Yummy gluten free options too. The first time I went to dine was just before Christmas. Just wanted to also note that they were selling the most amazing home cooked Christmas puddings. What a great festive addition. All I wanted to do for 15 minutes was eat that bloody soup but I had to wait for it to be less than burning. It's a tad overwhelming but I prefer this to the chain sandwich store, production-line style of ordering. Also, The Essence baguettes are well over a foot long with heaps of filling all the way to the end. No need for a tape measure. The staff are really friendly, and it seems genuine. Even when they aren't having the best day, the inner awesome shines through. Given the success of the place in it's hidden location, it would seem the fickle people of Stirling agree. The baguettes. They're just that good. All the ingredients look, taste and smell super fresh. I haven't been able to decide on a favourite, but all that come with pancetta are droolworthy. Crispy salty awesome with fresh herbs, it sounds simple but it's done so well. The chicken ceasar is really good too, as are the turkey cranberry and the chicken avocado. The philly cheese steak owns my stomach, so filling, so good. The smell alone makes my mouth water. When I tried The salami baguette I had my standards set pretty low (I'm not a mad salami fan) but upon recommendation I had it toasted. To say I was impressed is an understatement. Possibly the best cheese toastie I've ever had. There are two vegetarian baguette options on the menu, both are really good quality full of roast vegetable and herb deliciousness. I haven't looked for a vegan option, but I'm sure these friendly folks won't bight your head off if you ask nicely. They also do good coffee, and like most places in Stirling these days they do breakfast. Unfortunately I'm yet to have the Essence Breakfast experience but it's certainly on my to do list.

The bread sold here is really fresh, crisp and fluffy. It is more of a French style of cooking bread. It is really lovely! They sell pre-made baguettes for lunch trade that look amazing. I have yet to try one, but there is always a line at lunch. Apart from the bread, I have tried their pizzas a couple of times. The toppings offered are not complicated. A few ingredients is all that is needed. I feel for this store it is more about the base than what is on top of it. The base is cooked really well. Nice thickness and it is crispier than other bases I have had. If you want more on your pizza you have the option of adding more toppings. As for the desserts, they are divine. The pastries are perfection and fillings deliciously naughty. Perfect for a treat for the weekend. A lovely couple own this store and are very welcoming and happy to help. They really look after you and make you feel welcome. So, if you are after a bread stick, pizza or dessert head to Woodbake and give them a go!

According to my sources, Chris Broadfoot trained under famous French Chef Paul Bocuse and therefore knows what he's doing. When you enter the shop, you are usually greeted by Chris' partner Nancy who is lovely and very accommodating. As I've only been there at night I haven't seen everything that they offer, but what I have seen is great bread, pastries, and savoury and sweet tarts. Chris is always behind the counter preparing some baked good and getting it ready to go into the wood oven at the back corner of the shop and dresses like a traditional French baker. The pizzas are fairly minimal, but you can add extra toppings. They are a bit pricey, as is most of his products, but they are the highest quality and I always enjoy everything I buy from Woodbake.

My next idea was Mulot's Patisserie, but their doors weren't any more inviting, as white paper covered all their windows. I was out of ideas until I spied the Hyde Park Bakery in the distance. I figured they were new kids on the block, as I'd never come across them when I was living round the corner. A quick squiz at their Facebook shows in fact they are pretty new, and opened up in March of this year. But back to the goods. I was immediately drawn to their lattice shortbread pies, but I had a cravings for something savoury. It was a real dilema because everything in the cabinets looked delicious. I settled on a pumpkin & feta parcel and grabbed a shortbread pie to take home for later. I've spent years searching for a pumpkin & feta parcel to rival one that Michel's Patisserie in DJs Food Court (they don't do them anymore), sadly these weren't the ones, but they were still delicious. I can't wait to get back to try some more of their goodies. Everyone was helpful and friendly, and one of the bakers even came out to chat to a lady about their boiled chocolate cake, when they were made, and how long they'll last. It was then that we noticed the cake stand offering sizeable tastings of this particular cake. If you're in the area check this bakery out, I'm almost glad everywhere else was closed.

They also have a cute 'bar' type table to stand and have your coffee which overlooks the park but also overlooks the car park and smokers tend to gather here! The coffee is always good and I even get extra loyalty points for using my own cup! If your in Stirling definitely pop in here and grab a coffee and enjoy.

Most things are based around their delicious bread that is kinda like a thick pizza base that's crusty but airy. They have a range of doorstops with scrambled eggs and either spinach, mushroom or pancetta (add chili to these. Do it). They also have lots of thick pizza squares and focaccia 'sticks'. All of the toppings are, in true Italian style, relatively simple but that is why they are so good. Choosing my favorite filling combo would be like choosing a favorite child. The chicken and mushroom focaccia has saved me a couple of times from the morning after the night before. But so has the salami one. And the prosciutto one and the eggplant one. I would definitely recommend the omelette as it is seasoned perfectly and has these big chucks of gooey cheese and heaps of veg (and 90% of the time I would never recommend an omelette). The incarossa is not for the faint hearted and I prefer to share this with someone who wants to order the mushroom pizza slice. Actually find a friend and go halvies so you can eat two things. If you get there after 11:30 try the pasta of the day. Whatever you do make sure you get a doughnut to share at the end.
