Silvia has wonderful relationships with local fruit and veg suppliers, bakers and cheese makers at the Central Markets and Adelaide Farmers Markets. She prides herself on serving seasonal dishes on her menu and uses as much of every ingredient in the dish or other dishes as possible (when normally they'd be thought of as food scraps). So whether you're drinking left over broccoli stalks in a juice or the pulp from your juice is going into compost for their veggie garden out the back you can be sure less than 1% of any dish here is going to waste. When I went here I had a simple poached eggs with avo on rye toast. Unfortunately the eggs were a little too firmly cooked for my liking, but the dish was still fresh and filling. The coffee was also delicious. This place is very cosy with its pot belly stove roaring on a cool winter's day and a lovely friendly environment to dine for brekky or lunch.

A description does not give them justice but here we go- macaroons, mini cakes and chocolates, fresh strawberries and a chocolate fountain. Anywhere with a chocolate fountain wins so many points. There is something amazing about litres and litres of warm melted chocolate. All the items they sell are made in the shop and I bet they all taste delicious. Unfortunately, I did not have the money or the stomach room to sample everything, but Mum and I purchased macaroons, chocolates and coffee. The little chocolates were beautiful to look at; they had little patterns on top- the sort of thing that you think is too good looking to eat. The macaroon I had was salted caramel. I love salted caramel and it tasted good. Not the best macaroon I've had but definitely in the top 5! The shop itself does not have much seating especially outside. So it is possible that you may not be able to find somewhere to sit. But, you can get the desserts take away! Luckily enough we found a little table outside. All the outdoor furniture is quirky and doesn't match, I think this gives the café a nice feel and personality.

Super friendly. The service has always been good when I've been there, quick, attentive and understanding esp. when there are kids around. The owner/head chef does catering too and although i couldn't be there she catered one of my good friend's weddings this January just gone and by all reports the food was amazing. It's nestled in on the corner of a well designed hills complex next to a newsagents, a great local butcher, a chemist, and a foodland supermarket. Super convenient for the locals. Not to mention it's tucked behind the Balhannah pub and bottle shop so you can always grab a cheeky drop of plonk if you're heading home to unwind after a day out with the younguns! There used to be a great little homewares shop a stone's throw away called Balhannah by Design in the same complex but it has recently moved down the road into a newly established complex next to Mitre10. It's now called Living by Design and is also well worth checking out. Olive Branch. A great way to spend a morning, kids or not!

Owner and head chef, Nicole is an absolute delight who brings a real passion for food and hills produce to the small town of Balhannah. The menu hasn't changed drastically for about the past four years but there's a good reason for that- it's all delicious and there's something on there for whatever mood you're in! There are also always specials up on the board and I believe the dinner menu does have a little variation from week to week. The other great thing is the all day breakfast because going out for breakfast is one of those great pleasures that we don't always want to wake up early for! My top picks would have to include the club sandwich- a classic, the lamb wrap, the chicken tandoori wrap and the chips. I don't know how but these girls have the ability to make basic food so delicious. Curries, salads and an array of delicious foods feature regularly on the specials boards. There's always a delicious range of cakes and treats in the fridge- all made on site and all of which match fantastically with their amazing hot chocolates (with real chocolate!) The menu features gluten free and child friendly options while there's also a small kids play area inside as well. If you're driving through on a weekend in the hills, I would highly recommend stopping in for a local wine and some tasty treats- there's a delectable tasting plate on the menu- perfect for visitors to the region!

They have chosen the right place to set up shop too. They are offering a modern styled cuisine in an area that is traditionally serving German and pub styled food. So for the locals, I am sure that it is a breath of fresh air. The restaurant is earthy styled with the use of a wooden cladding, furniture and decorated tree branches. The walls are painted in blackboard paint and cool chalk art is on display. They have a really creative menu; I was fortunate enough to try the prosciutto wrapped nectarine served with a salad full of yummy fetta, radish, mint and lettuce. It was a real treat, sweet and salty, and just the way I like it! If you are after a coffee and cake, this is also a really lovely destination. They served Kitchen 2C branded coffee and a beautiful selection of cakes and cookies. Yummy gluten free options too. The first time I went to dine was just before Christmas. Just wanted to also note that they were selling the most amazing home cooked Christmas puddings. What a great festive addition. If you are in Hahndorf and you want something a little spesh, check out Kitchen 2C. Definitely service with a smile

She was instantly drawn to the Fairy Garden that's visible from the sidewalk and to the left of the cafe. Closer inspection drew disappointment when we found that the garden itself was shut "because it's too hot today". It was 38 degrees. Quite normal for this time of year in South Australia I thought? Anyway, we were able to peer through the gate and it was left to the vivid imagination of the 5 year old as to what lay beyond! We decided to stay and have a latte and sat in the courtyard. The service was very good and the prices were reasonable considering that we were in a hot tourist area. I'm sure that we'll go back there - perhaps in winter to see if it's open. And I'm sure that an excited 5 year old's mind can magically wander.

I really like the set up inside, there is an upper and lower dining level which creates a really nice atmosphere. Last time I went to the stables I had the vegetarian risotto which was fantastic, big serving too so I couldn't get through all of it. I also had two latte's which were also above expectation their star barista must have been on shift that day. I didn't even realise that this cafe was part of an accommodation service, there certainly don't advertise that part of the business in the cafe, so I can't really comment on the cleanliness of the bedsheets,; but if I ever get hold of an ultra violet light I'll keep you guys informed. There is an outside seating area available as well and the great thing is that there is a window set up where you can get bar service from outside too, this is great for the lazy in you.
