It's a nice bowling club that's got a bit of everything. There's a nice bistro with plenty of options to choose from like burgers, steaks, pasta, salads and a few Asian noodles and 'specials'. Outside is a nice new courtyard overlooking the green and there's also extensive views looking over towards Homebush and the Olympic stadium. Years back when I was more mobile (read: less lazy) I used to play cricket on the oval below and spent countless hours wishing I was up at the bowlo having a drink in the air comfort of the place. Needless to say it was straight up there after the days play! If you decide to kick on, there's a courtesy bus to take you home on Friday and Saturday nights although I assume that's just for locals. But that's what this place is, a nice place for locals.

A little walk of history, leading to an archeological type dig at the top of a (rather impish) little climb, replete with information on the walls of this narrow lane about the history of the surrounding little bit of sydney. Blink and you'll miss it, but don't. This is a nice and lovely little path back into yesteryear

You know, for an old sewage canal this place doesn't smell half that bad…read more There's a history about this small canal, it's worth hearing. Just keep an eye out for sand filled socks and promises of knee tremblers! Avoid those and you'll be swept up by the various uses of this canal over the times... It's well worth a walk up here to where it opens up into a bigger area. Could just be that I love getting into nooks and crannies and feel like I'm getting a behind the scenes look at my own city!

It may have opened way behind schedule, but the redeveloped Rushcutters Bay Tennis Centre and Kiosk…read moreis a stark improvement on the previous incarnation. A rundown café and a workers cottage were demolished - despite the protest of the previous tenants and a number of locals - to make way for an extra court on the school side of road, while the 3rd court on the park side made way for the new kiosk. There are now 5 brand new astroturf courts offering tennis 15 hours a day (14 hours on weekends) with prices ranging from $21/hour on weekdays and when it's daylight, to $26/hour for weekends and at night when the floodlights kick in (guess the electricity bill must be high). The courts offer a picturesque setting within the park, while the only obstacle can be the wind that swirls off the harbour and can often become a extra person in a rally. The kiosk café offers your usual array of sandwiches and drinks, as well as tennis racquet rental. This is also where you can reserve a court and purchase balls and other tennis paraphernalia, although you can book over the phone too. There are also coaching sessions - adult and junior - on offer for those who need a little bit of help with their serve!

Looks are deceiving…read more...... At the south end of Hyde Park stands this stone monument, a beautiful blend of Gothic architecture and Art Deco style. But wander past the Pool of Reflection and up the stairs. Inside a feeling of serenity, and respect take over as you enter The Hall of Silence. Over the rotunda rail you look down upon the sculpture Sacrifice. It sets the entire tone. Off two sides are small alcoves, one with an eternal flame burning. Definitely wander downstairs. I didn't realize there was an entire larger museum beneath the memorial. Several rooms off the Hall of Service take you from World War I to more recent military actions. These rooms house a significant historical collection of approximately 7,000 objects that relay the personal stories of servicemen and servicewomen, and their families. The collection includes medals, badges, uniforms, field equipment, photographs, documents, manuscripts, framed works and books. There are also several screens that run news reels and other footage on a loop. I underestimated how much information was here. Allow almost two hours. Admission is free. Truly a must see.

This place used to be a dumping ground in the old days and has been transformed into a gorgeous park. Sydney Park includes a series of visually prominent hills which provide panoramic views of the city skyline and Sydney Airport. There is a massive skate park, kids play areas and some of the heritage of this area has also been preserved nicely. Loved going here with our dog.

Sydney Park…read more Identifiable from the historical heritage listed brickworks chimneys from the days when the area used to be the brickworks for Sydney, it's a vast green area that is perfect for any recreational activity. Lovely open green areas perfect for walking the dog, and a large kids playground equipped with a large sandpit, climbing frames, swings and slides, it's got everything a kid needs to explore, play and wear themselves out. There's a challanging skate park, and a learn to ride bike area for the kids. There's also a sports oval where I believe a local Sydney grade cricket team plays during the summer months. Lush green grass is plentiful, and perfect for a picnic. Climb up the steep hills and you will find yourself with views stretching to the City and lower North Shore in the north, to the Aiport and Brighton le Sands region in the South, and on clear sunny days, free of smog and polloution you can glimpse the sprawling Blue Mountains and Great Dividing Range. Whether you're jogging or cycling through for a bit of quick fitness, or spending the day relaxing, it's a fantastic park with plenty of amenities. One downside is the toilets aren't the cleanest, and probably need more attention especially during weekend periods. There's a small cafe just outside the childrens play area which serves a good range of coffees and light meals. I'm sure in time that'll get a review on it's own. But with two young kids, it's going to be a regular destination for myself. And with walking distance to King St, Newtown, I'm sure there's plenty of opportunities for a cheeky beer or two in one of the many pubs and bars located along the strip. Or, if you're my wife, plenty of (window) shopping.

The last review for this place was so long ago! That's weird because it's a bustling area with…read morenice views, plenty of strolling, activities and of course, a lot of food options. The wharf/promenade is pretty wide so even when busy I think you'd have a good time and not be annoyed by the crowds. We had two groups of school children slide by us easily. There are plenty of eateries that aren't crazily priced and don't look half bad. There are also a lot of places to sit and relax a little. We were able to find nice seating options out of the sun while we could still people watch.

There was really nothing all that exciting here, and there are certainly not any restaurants that I would be making much of an effort to go to either. Honestly, this place really didn't do all that much for me, and in the end, I'd simply describe it as being boring.
