As usual, me and my girlfriend went out for a spot of dinner on a quiet night, (Sunday)and Milsoms got the nod as its very close (walking distance, through a lovely wood, and a ghastly road) to my house. Ive been previously, and whilst Ive always liked the atmosphere, the food has disapointed. Not this time though! Starters were just bread and oils, with G&T's, and very nice it was, Advocado oil replacing the more boring balsamic. Mains was Pork Loin from the specials for Her and Veal for me. Both the meats were cooked perfectly, and the accompanyments did excactly that. Both meals were well balanced and tasted fantastic. Desserts were a Rhubarb and custard Brulee, (Her) and Coffee Macaroons (Me). Followed by cheese. Again, excellent all round. Wine was a portuguse red (I know - I didnt order french! The Horror) And was very palatable. The only slight niggle is the odd service there. You write your order on the provided pencil and paper, and take it up to the service till. Not a problem, but it definitly detracts from the experience, and meant my food was slightly cooling at my table whilst I was waiting to order wine at the bar. It works, but I just dont see the point when table service would be much better for the customer. All in all, recommended, but it is fairly expensive and the lack of proper service would put me off going for an occasion. It's worth noting that the staff are fantastic however, and as helpful and friendly as any you'll find. The place is a carbon copy of the other Milsoms in Dedham, and stylishly furnished. The lounge isn't to my taste, and i refuse to sit in it, but the patio and outside area is fantastic, with a lovely relaxed setting, fully covered and heated. bar prices are reasonable, making it an excellent alternative for a drink if you're lucky enough (I am!) to live locally. read more
