The Country Ground, or Wantage Road as its known, is my second home in the summer and so I know the place inside out, out being the umpire's favourite word down there. Once shared with the Cobblers (the one where George Best scored those six goals) the Country Ground has gone through some changes over the years with a new cricket school and stand. Next year it will have static floodlights for the Twenty20 revolution and the ground able to cram in 5000 boozed up punters. T20 is about getting as many in as possible and as much booze down their gullet in a short time. With 50 days home cricket a year and match day prices starting at £12 for adults and £6 for kids for County cricket if you have time on your hands in the summer its worth buying a season ticket for £145. Pro40 games cost £14 and T20, although least amount of overs and time in the ground, cost £15 per adult. If your working and you like your one - day stuff at the weekends or in the evenings then they do a one-day season ticker for £90 bucks. Although the Pro40 Sunday games this year are spread through the week. If you peckish during a long day it's hard to recommend the on-ground catering and snacks and the prices are airport ones. Even the admin staff prefers to go down the road to the local bakers for lunch. There's plenty of on site bars and more for the big matches, the visiting Australians in late July for a three day game sure to be a treat. Parking is not great and on ground places are few and far between. The traffic wardens enjoy nailing you on big match days and the residents don't like their houses blocked in. For T20 the local park lay on parking at extortionate rates. But once your in and the suns out and the beers flowing it's a great treat evening out and hopefully you will come again. Compared to watching the Saints and the Cobblers T20 is the best value for me and if you want a lazy day then cricket is the place. The home season starts in late April and so I will see you there.

Farnborough Hall is a great National Trust run House and Gardens near Banbury in Oxfordshire. We…read morevisited the Hall last summer for a picnic. The house first of all is stunning, it is recommended to go on a sunny day, we did and the house looked amazing, the outside has a beautiful honey-coloured stone frontage, and looks wonderful in the summer light. The landscape gardens are quite spectacular, created in 1740, the parkland is scattered with temples and sculptures. The house has some amazing plasterwork, from the 18th century we were told. Our picnic was great, there are designated picnic areas for families which was suitable, clean and well maintained. From there we have lovely views too. We did a set walk in the afternoon, the so-called 'temple walk' which was great and took in the main areas of the park. The surrounding area of Avon Dassett is wonderful and famously beautiful with big hills and pretty villages. A day muchly enjoyed by all, but do go during the summer months!

There is a 20m pool together with two spa/hydro pools - the biggest spa pool I've ever seen which can easily fit 20 people and would put most spa resorts facilities to shame. Also available is a sauna and steam room, there are cooler sauna's located in the male and female changing areas. The changing areas are always clean, they have digital lockers so you simply go in and pick a locker. No need to wander around with a key on your wrist. The gym is spacious with loads of CV kit, weight machines and free weights. Every CV item has a view of the TV screens and the running machines also get a view out over the golf course! I like the cardio theatre environment where you can plug yourself into the TV screens. The cycles are especially good as they have individaul TV screens, although beware that you have to keep cycling to watch TV! They do loads of classes as well, there are two studios and a specific spinning studio. All in all a very good environment - shame you have to pay a few quid for it!
