There were divers everywhere and supposedly there is a submarine, double decker bus, airplane and all sorts sunken here! It was cool to watch the divers in action. There is also a good little pub where you can sit and watch what's going on out in the water!

Farnborough Hall is a great National Trust run House and Gardens near Banbury in Oxfordshire. We…read morevisited the Hall last summer for a picnic. The house first of all is stunning, it is recommended to go on a sunny day, we did and the house looked amazing, the outside has a beautiful honey-coloured stone frontage, and looks wonderful in the summer light. The landscape gardens are quite spectacular, created in 1740, the parkland is scattered with temples and sculptures. The house has some amazing plasterwork, from the 18th century we were told. Our picnic was great, there are designated picnic areas for families which was suitable, clean and well maintained. From there we have lovely views too. We did a set walk in the afternoon, the so-called 'temple walk' which was great and took in the main areas of the park. The surrounding area of Avon Dassett is wonderful and famously beautiful with big hills and pretty villages. A day muchly enjoyed by all, but do go during the summer months!

Not sure how we heard of it but it came recommended so we jumped on a train to Bedford from St. Pancras and 36 minutes later were stepping out into blazing sunshine. Perfect day for a swim. We found the bus station and a bus that would drop us out of town to the pool. Pretty much in the middle of nowhere with a large Tesco next door and just one bus an hour. The pool itself is housed in a striking pyramid shaped building with various ponds and water features dotted around. No slides snaking outside which was a little disconcerting as that what we were coming for. Inside we found a great family fun pool with two slides reached from a central tower. The 55 metre 'yellow screamer' and the 45 metre red turbo 'flume of doom'. The red one is the quicker of the two and a solid slide - the yellow version a bit tame for us now. At the bottom of the slides they have a digital display that flashes up your speed and how long it took you to go down the slide - a nice touch I thought and not a feature I have seen anywhere else. The slides aren't the reason to visit though....there are much better options available elsewhere. This pool has a lazy river that snakes in a circle oustside the pool. In the summer months they open a door way and you can swim out into the sunshine and boy was it hot! We had struck lucky...water jets propel you round the route and yes it was busy but not uncomfortably so. Inside the rest of the pool is typical beach style so perfect for little ones. They have a separate quiet pool with bubble beds. Main pool has a decent wave machine, various jacuzzi pools, jet pool and a couple of swim round the island rapid streams. Really good mix of mushroom showers and underwater jets propelling you around. This is a well designed pool with plenty to do over a couple of hours. This is really great pool for under 10s that are confident swimmers - worth the journey - if the sun is out we will definitely be back. Decent changing rooms and showers. There is a cafe which is less great but fine for picking up a post swim slush puppy - I would avoid the coffee. We took a picnic and found a shady spot under some trees outside.

My kids love the one which takes you outside in a loop, but be warned the current is quite strong, it can be hard to get out of the loop!! There is a large communal changing room which was clean. On the last occasion we went, I took them to the cafe afterwards. it served the usual kid stuff, chips and nuggets. it wasn't too expensive, I would say it was on a par with McDonalds. Good for a rainy day.

I am an avid swimmer and of all the pools in Bedford, this is my favourite…read more It may not be the biggest or have the most facilities but it certainly the quietest when it comes to wanting a swim without lots of other people in the water. It is a 25 meter pool and is often split into three lanes. It has recently been shut for 3 months to have the roof refit so it should look all lovely and new! In half term the pool has a giant bouncy castle type feature in the water (which I remember being great fun!). Prices are competitive here, especially if you own a Bedford Leisure card. There is a small gym on site as well although i've only used the pool so can't comment on that.

Who needs beautiful weather to have a good walk? My parents, better half and I wanted to walk off…read moresome of the huge amounts of Christmas food...so drove over to Irchester country park in the pouring rain. We hoped it would stop raining for a bit...and it did although we did still get soaked during most of our walk! Despite the rain, the waterlogged paths and the grey skies, we still had a pleasant walk. This park used to be an ironstone quarry, so there are pretty trails through the mixed woodland...with large peaks and troughs where people have dug up iron over the centuries. I really want to come back with my nephew and niece...they would love it! Other awesome-ness * We found some fake dinosaurs along one of the trail (!) * There is a railway museum (only open once a week on a Sunday, but apparently it's brilliant for train-loving kids) * There is a fun looking playground for kids, as well as rope bridges, zip lines and cargo nets for big kids * It costs £2.50 to park, but there is no entrance fee. If it is a rainy day, take some wellington boots and a rain coat...you'll love it.

Visited Gullivers on the last Sunday in May (09), had never been before and didn't know what to…read moreexpect. Had one 14 year old and a 22 month old, plus one wife 30+! Not too crowded and didn't have to wait long for rides.Only a few rides for bigger kids but we all had fun, got very wet on log fume. Shared large pizza for a 'cheapo' lunch. Dora and other characters were wandering around which pleased little ones. If you've young kids it's a great place to go and at £12.50 good value too. Under 90cm kids free. Just been again 13th September Grandparents Day. Buy one ticket and Grandparents go free! Keep an eye on the web site.
