This is an overdue review because I was hesitant to leave it, but decided to share my honest experience to help other parents make better decisions. My daughter attended Mini when she was 1.5 years old. Now she is 4.5 year old, and becomes more verbal. She started to tell me things I didn't know back then. And I was very upset to hear. To give a little background. My child only speaks Chinese at home before going to Mimi. After 7 months being there, I was told by Jean that my kid never spoke a word in school, not even making any sound. I got her diagnosed, and she maybe had selective mutism (not speak at school, but talk a lot in other setting). At first, I thought it was because the language that she got confused by Chinese and English. Now, relating to what my kid told me now, and thinking my child' reactions back then, I was really sad. My kid now told me, she didn't like Mimi, because all the teachers would yell at her, and hit her on the head if she didn't behave well. They would put her in a room by herself as a punishment. She even imitated what the teachers did to her, and it broke my heart. It is really really bad. These reminded me of when I picked her up back then. They would sit quietly and nicely by the table, playing. (They put the kids into "waiting area" for parents to pick up, and sometimes they can sat there for over 30 mins). When I first toured the school, I was so surprised that the kids were so behaved for that age. I even felt that the place was way too quiet for their age. Also, when I picked her up, sometimes she was clearly sad and upset. Now looking at the photos Jean sent me, (and compared to the photos in her new school), she indeed was sad and unhappy in every single photo. I felt so bad now that I ignored all these signs back then. That I left my kids miserable in that place for 7 months. Afraid, and not even saying a word. When I talked to her doctor about selective mutism, I kept asking the doctor if it is the traumatized experience that caused her this. The doctor said, an anxious environment could trigger it. I have been blaming myself for a long while for it. After she transferred to a new school in Walnut (it has both Chinese and English teachers), after 3 months, she started to talk, and really thrive in the new daycare. On the first day in the new school, the teachers told me that they were so surprised that my kid was so behaved, a little bit too behaved. They said she is very nervous about things and very sensitive. I am glad that the teachers in the new school are truly supportive, and give her so much love. She become the most talkative kid in the class after 6 months (speaks in English). I can clearly see the difference. She is so happy everyday. I think Korean are like Chinese, very strict and disciplined sometimes. I am not sure if my kid exaggerated. But what I know is, after we transferred to the new school, one day, I passed by the Mimi to go shopping, and she was so scared and screamed "I am not going to Mimi!" Every time, I mentioned Mimi or driving toward Mimi's direction, she would give me very strong emotions and said I am not going back. Although of these things, I still think they have some good things. The place is clean and organized (my kid didn't get much sick during the time there). They are flexible. I remembered we were busy during a period when we moved to a new place, and they were accommodating our needs. I hope my kid is only an individual case. Maybe it is just her that didn't fit well into Mimi. I sincerely hope other kids could have a better experience. read more

Ms. Jean and Ms. Mimi and staff have all done a wonderful job the past 2 years in helping my son mature into toddlerhood. He's learned to talk so well, play well with others and be more independent. He is all smiles and laughter when I pick him up everyday so I know he's had a great day. He's made great friends and now we are all sad to depart. It felt like family! He's celebrated holidays and birthdays here and everyone is so kind. I know my son was also well fed-- lunch and dinner-- because he's never lost weight! He's also not a picky eater which is a plus. We love Mimi Childcare so much! Our son has been going there since he was 1 years old and is about to leave soon as we are transitioning him to preschool/TK since he is turning 4. Mimi, Jean, and all of the teachers are so kind and exude genuine warmth and care for our son. We regularly receive updates and photos from Jean and any concerns are always brought to our attention in a timely manner (like if my son is coughing, or has a runny nose). The daycare provides educational activities and our son has blossomed and developed so much there. They also provided home cooked lunch and dinner for the kids and always have fun festivities including celebrating holidays and birthdays. I attended MiMi as a child and nearly 20 years later I am so thankful it's still around so I can send my son. It's very inviting and a perfect environment for kids to experience social time with their peers before entering the school system. Truly as a first time mom, peace of knowing your child is safe and taken care of is priceless and I am so grateful MiMi can give me that. Especially after the pandemic it felt so hard to find social events where my son can meet kids his age. It took him a while to learn how to talk, but a couple weeks of going he became so comfortable using words to ask for what he needs/wants. Love Love this day care so much. My son has attended this day care since 2023 june and it's been almost a year now. My son was not even two years when he started going and we were so nervous to send him to a place we didnt know at such a young age. but all the teachers are so intentional and amazing. they Always give you updates about your childs development, send pictures, and they care about my son with their heart. They updated toys and they feed the kids well with good food. it makes me feel so safe to send my son to this place. they also prioritize the kids safety and routine( for example i love that they dont allow non appt visits for new babies especially since this is a home daycare. they do this to protect the kids and their nap time. or when my son is not feeling good or has any symptoms they immediately contact us ) Also, at this daycare my son learned alot. he learned the alphabet, numbers, and already knows lots of different songs. also they do events like easter, Halloween, Christmas etc. and my son loves it. now when i drop him off at daycare he doesn't even say bye and runs into the house with excitement. that shows us how my son loves here. we have a newly born daughter and plan to send her once shes old enough! highly recommend this place !! read more

This is the review you should trust because I attended this place around 5-10 years ago as a child and I remember it all. It's crazy to see how this place is seemingly thriving when this daycare left me traumatized. Back then, it was only the older woman, the mother, and she would force food down our throats. They would also hit us but I'm not sure if rules have changed now that the owner is presumably her daughter from what I'm hearing. They would hit kids for being left handed, they would spank kids for wetting their beds, punish them for not finishing food--and this was all kept hidden from parents. The moment parents would arrive, they would pretend everything was fine and stop mid-hitting. If your child seems to dread coming here or is much happier when they come home, treat that as a sign or warning. If you wanted your child fed, napped, and to get some enrichment, this place was organized in a sense. I'm not sure how much this has changed since then, but I hope her daughter doesn't carry the same anger issues. It wasn't all bad memories, but I wouldn't dare let any child, let alone mine, step foot in this place. read more

My son started at Mimi's when he was about just about 1.5 yrs old in Sep 2022. He adjusted really well thanks to the supportive and caring environment here. Ms Jean and her mother Ms Mimi run this home based day care. Their love and concern for the children really shows in everything they do for them, from the daily fresh cooked meals to the activities and events they do. This was my child's first time at a day care so I was nervous especially after Covid times. However Ms Jean made me feel at ease. She has great communication and would send me pictures of his during the day. When he got sick at day care, she acted promptly and notified us, took the appropriate steps. A great DayCare! This is my daughter's second DayCare, the first one more close to work, this one more close to home. The most important point I choose them, it's the environment inside. I visited it once, very clean and lots of sunlight, and the big outdoor playground. I believe kids love to play outside under sunshine with smiles. My son started here in February and it has been an amazing experience! His fear of strangers is pretty strong with COVID so I was very worried but Jean and Mimi were fantastic! Jean was great in providing updates and photos to ease my mind. Both are so attentive and take great care. Lunch, dinner and two snacks are provided and it is such a relief to not have to worry about packing food. The food is also made fresh on a daily basis and makes me wish that I was also eating this well. The place is very clean. Love...love...love this day care and all the teachers!!! I'm a working mom with a demanding job and actually took a day off looking for a day care for my toddler. I found this day care and spoke to Ms Jean to do a site visit. I met her the same day and already had a great feeling about this place that I immediately wanted to reserve a spot. I actually have been looking for a day care couple months before, talked to tons a of people, and also visited 3 places from a list I narrowed down. This is the only one I felt comfortable. My parents also made their site visit since they are extremely protective of my son and they definitely received a thumbs up. Highly recommend this place and cannot forget to mention the awesome meals and snacks they prepare for the kids. My toddler actually likes to eat veggies now and is not picky! My son has been with this daycare for several months. I have been very happy with my son's care here. This is the 2nd daycare we tried and turns out to be a great fit. I was looking for a nurturing and clean environment that is not overly crowded. Mimi's is all of that. They serve fresh and nutritious meals. After touring different home daycares, I decided to send my daughter here for various reasons. The house is very clean, the food is all homemade (they serve dinner here too), snacks are delicious for the toddlers, and the adult to student ratio is amazing. Jean is very attentive and personable; she frequently tells me about my daughters behavior (good or bad), and occasionally sends me pictures of her day. My LO is 2.5 years old, and up until 11 months ago she stayed home with me as I worked my remote job. Ready to get into an in-house position and she needing to socialize and further develop her learning skills, I sought out a daycare that would fit the following criteria: 1. Safe and clean 2. Small student:teacher ratio to allow for more one-on-one attention, improved safety odds, and fewer blockades to learning. 3. Values learning 4. Serves nutritious food 5. Have a genuine nature and love for children (This is huge! A person who doesn't love children will not treat them remotely close to how you would and being with teachers for so many hours a day, their nature--whatever it is--will undoubtedly seep into your child's own.) 6. Well-mannered children I truly found all of these things at Mimi Child Care. As a stay-at-home working mom I had anxiety about placing my daughter. I called and spoke to many daycares who had 4 and 5 star reviews during my search and they all churned my stomach. Something just didn't feel right about them. After speaking with and meeting Jean, i absolutely had no reservations. She is such a wonderful spirit and ray of light, as is Mimi. Their energies made the daycare feel warm, light and inviting upon setting foot inside. It wasn't just the clean and open, airy space, nor the walls displaying bright decor. Equally important, she understood my wants and desires without me saying, because she has worked with so many stay-at-home working parents and is one herself in many regards bc her two children attend the daycare themselves. This also meant she comprehended what my daughter would need during the transition period. The place was up to child protection standards, the children were nice and well-kept, there are 3 people to 12-14 children, all meals are homemade, learning was a key focus, and there were lots of toys that fostered development. I was sold! After accepting a position, Jean worked quickly to get my LO in and she helped me use my two weeks until hire to begin the adjustment period. Once in daycare full-time, Jean texted me several times a day with updates and sent photos of her. Riley had a rough time, she had never been left with a stranger or been around so many kids for so many hours. She had major separation anxiety, hiding under tables and not fully interacting with her peers. But Mimi and Jean worked so well with her. They gave gentle encouragement and knowing she was a high-touch child, held her whenever she needed comfort or to feel removed from what to her was a foreign environment. Fast-forward a month (the adjustment period) and my LO took off. She became a confident speaker with much knowledge to spew and really just became more confident overall. It's been half a year that my little one going to Mimi's child care. I just love this place! I was recommended by my friend, whose daughter is still going there now. I called and was told that there is a waiting list (you can see how popular it is). We got the spot for my daughter after around one month and half. The first day we visited the day care, me and my husband decided to choose this one. It is very clean, well organized and kid friendly decorated place. I remembered kids were sitting there in a circle and playing. My daughter just went in and started playing with some toys. I could tell she liked this place. Jean is very nice and easy communicated teacher who has a son almost same age as my daughter, which is big plus, because she knows exactly what's going on to these kids in their life stage. Mimi is also kind and experienced teacher. She concerns about all the kids and take care of their eating, napping and cold/warm....She made the food more easily to digest for my daughter so she was able to eat more. During the first couple of weeks, Jean answered all the questions I had for how's my daughter doing in the day care and also sent me pictures. It comforted me a lot as a new mom sending my little to a day care for the first time. Now, half a year passed. I can totally see her change in these days. She becomes more out-going and active than before. She was very very shy before going to day care. She is able to eat by herself now! And Mimi's provides the healthy and balanced Asian meals, which is another major reason I put my little one here. My now 22 month old son started attending Mimi's nearly 3 months ago and he is doing great here! He previously attended another home run daycare which we transferred him out of due to Mommy's career change/location. My daughter (now 4) also attended a home run day care between the ages of 1-3 years of age. Having prior experience with similar facilities to compare to, Mimi Childcare provides a really well rounded experience for children. As a parent you want more than just a place where you can drop off your child for the day. You hope that they are in a place where they feel happy, can thrive, are well fed and cared for and feel that their needs are attended to. I feel that these are all things that my son receives when he is dropped off. I appreciate the adequate number of staff, so that the kids are well attended to for activities and meals/snacks are prepared. Feeling that you can communicate openly as needed is also really important. You don't want to harbor concerns because you worry about annoying or frustrating the Provider. Jean, the Director is so wonderful. Although I'm sure days are busy, she responds to texts in a timely manner and she is very open and receptive to concerns or specific requests. I feel that she cares for my child and is able to address specific questions I may have about how he is doing- this lets me know that he is being watched closely. The daycare is also extremely clean, has a bright and happy feel , plenty of fun and clean toys. They update their play items , and they have several fun outdoor and indoor activities to keep them busy and learning. Kids all seem very happy there! My son eats great! I recently enrolled my 22 month old son in Mimi's Childcare 2 months ago. When my family came to meet Jean, the teachers, and take a tour of the place, we were so happy to see our son feel comfortable on his first visit. Everyone was so friendly and Jean was very informative about the daycare. My son has never been to a daycare, so of course, I was worried about how he'd adjust to the new place. During his first week, Jean texted me how he was doing and sent me pictures. He adapted very well and even napped on the first day which was very surprising since it's usually hard to put him down for a nap. He also ate the meals that were provided for him. When we pick him up, I love how Jean is very outgoing and how she will tell us how our son's day went. I know it's a hard decision when entrusting someone to take care of your child. I have been taking my son (almost 2 years old) here for a few months now and I could not be happier with this facility. Jean (the teacher) is amazing and so are the rest of the staff. The home is very clean and the children are always well fed and taken care of. They are given healthy snacks and home cooked meals. Sometimes when I pick him up he does not want to leave. Jean even sends me some pictures of how he is doing. They partake in a lot of different activities such as craft time and story time. I cannot explain how happy my husband and I are at finding Mimi Childcare. Jean and Mimi are amazing! They truly care for the children and put a lot of effort into making sure the children are eating, napping, playing and overall happy. We sent both our kids (3 yr old and 20 month old) to Mimi's Childcare and we are just so pleased with our decision. Our 20 month old has never attended a daycare before but he's on his 3rd week now and seems to have adapted very well. He had some issues when it came to eating because he was always under the care of a live in nanny that constantly fed him porridge and yogurt with everything he ate and with Jean and Mimi's help, our little Mason is now eating more solid textured foods. Our eldest, Grayson had attended 2 other day cares prior to this one so it didn't take him too long to get used to Mimi's. When my boys first started, Jean took the time to update me throughout the day and even sent me pictures so I could be at ease at work knowing my children are being well taken care of. Jean is very fast at returning texts or calls so she is there every time I have questions about how the boys are or what not. She's never made me feel like I'm a over worried mom, but always took her time to relay info to me. At this place, I feel like the children are being taught more compared to the other in home daycares i have looked at before. They teach them an alphabet every week and it seems to be more educational than other places which is a great plus for me. I am forever thankful for Jean and Mimi as they really do care for these kids and treat them so well. We are so happy both our boys are doing so well at their daycare. We are so grateful that our daughter was able to attend Mimi Child Care. Before Mimi Child Care, our daughter had individual care from parents to grandparents to nanny. Mimi Child Care was a very good first daycare with a group setting. Jean and MImi were very caring and nurturing and helped our daughter adjust quickly. One of the best things I like about Mimi Child Care is that they provide nutritious homemade lunch AND dinner! Our daughter learned numbers and alphabet just shortly after attending Mimi Child Care. She was always happy and in a good mood when we picked her up. She liked playing with her friends there. During the time there, she didn't get any major sickness (at most a minor cold with a running or stuffy nose which is normal), so they did a good job with keeping the place clean and washing the kids' hands. He learned to eat with an extra long bib that tucks under his dish so that foods that fall are caught in the bib-hammock! So we had to go get some to use at home. I didn't feel comfortable sending him to another place where I lived and was afraid that he would have a difficult time adjusting. I'm so glad I found Mimi Child Care. It's interesting to see how many people rate this place 5 stars. We saw the positive reviews on yelp and decided to make a visit. When we got there, there was a sign on the front door that stated their quiet hours for nap time. We got there 20 minutes before then and rang the doorbell. We were 'greeted' by who I suspect is the mother of the primary owner. She gives us a bad first impression by starting off with saying 'can't you read the sign?' in an annoyed manner. Ultimately we were asked to come another time as the children were sleeping, which wasn't the problem at all. We came back to tour the daycare and decided to put our name on the waitlist as a backup. Looking at the timeline of when some of these other 5 star reviewers got call backs notifying them when their children got in, we were definitely passed up. It's seriously sad to see that they selectively choose which families they accept, especially because we didn't do anything that could have warranted a 'screening'. We just moved into the neighborhood two months ago and I'm so happy to find a good rated daycare right across the street! Now it has been more than a month since the first time my 21 mo daughter goes here part time, and even though in the morning she used to be sad that she needs to go (adjustment period, not anymore) she always came back with great moods in the evening. That way I know she always had a great time over there. I see that they also offer a good variety of healthy foods that caters to the child needs (my daughter has some allergies and they take care of that matter). I love Mimi child care. I am sending my second daughter (21 months old) now and I sent my first one there from 2 years to 3.5 years. They are based on a house so it's safe and clean. The teachers are very experienced so they know how to deal with different types of kids. Their food is home cooked everyday for every meal. I love the fact that they feed dinner!!! My daughters started to attend Mimi Child Care when she was 17 months old. She is a VERY sensitive girl, which makes me extremely hard to find a day care with lots of patient and love to help her go through the first couple month attend day care. I visited nearly all day cares in Diamond Bar, Rowland Heights, Walnut and West Covina. I am so lucky to get a spot in Mimi day care. Jean and Mimi are the most caring and friendly teachers I've ever saw. My daughter's first year at Mimi has been extremely positive. After the first day she went to day care, even though she still crying, but when I asked her whether she wants to go to Mimi day care tomorrow, she said YES! Within the first month, I was so worried, but Jean texted me her photos and always kept in touch. After a month, my daughter started to looking forward to go to day care every morning. We made an unannounced visit to check out the daycare to see how it really runs, as most parents recommended I do this when looking for a daycare. The lady who answered the door seemed annoyed by this and went to talk to her daughter. They requested we wait outside for about 10 minutes, then finally let us check the facility inside. While the daughter gave us the tour, the lady who initially opened the door kept glaring at us, apparently still bothered that we showed up unannounced. Afterwards, we put our names on the waiting list (in case we couldn't find a better daycare) and left. I find out later on that people who were on the wait list AFTER us managed to get into the daycare. While I ended up sending my daughter to another daycare (that didn't mind the unannounced visit and still impressed us with their facility), I was disappointed to find out about this because it showed that this daycare cherry picked who they wanted and were not professional in going off the list. I wonder if this explains why they have so many 5 star (probably biased) reviews, because in touring this daycare, I didn't think it was worthy of 5 stars. read more

My daughter started at Mimi Childcare when she was about 17 months. She's a very sensitive girl and it takes her a long time to warm up to strangers. So I was very worried when she first started. But Jean went out of her way to help my daughter adjust to the new environment and she sent me daily updates and photos which totally reassured this nervous mommy! She now loves it and talks about going to school everyday! Jean and Mimi truly love all the kids there and it shows through how happy they are. My daughter learned her colors, alphabets, and numbers as well as good behaviors such as feeding and dressing herself, putting on her own shoes, and cleaning after herself. The facility is clean, safe, and they make the best homemade meals for the kids. My daughter loves their food and never comes home hungry. They also have different holiday parties throughout the year and they throw the best birthday party for each kid - my daughter still talks about her birthday party. I've toured a lot of different daycares and I am so glad I went with Mimi during her most crucial development years. read more

I'm so in love with this daycare. I feel at ease when I drop my daughter off and I became very good friends with one of the teachers, Jean. She's amazing! She even has her own little boy who is so darn adorable! I always recommend her services to my friends and a couple of them have enrolled and they love it just as much as I do. =) read more

As a mom, looking for the best day care for your most precious children is the utmost important thing. For me, I wanted a place that i can leave my child with no worries, a place that can provide my child with the best education, stimulation, and enjoyment everyday, a place where my child feels comfortable... and Mimi Daycare has provided me with all these aspects and more. I have to say, with no hesitation, that i would recommend this place to any body who is in search of an educational daycare program. I love this place. This place treats all their students as if they were their own child, grandchild etc. I have both my children attending this place and soon my daughter will be leaving this facility because she has to go to kindergarten; however, i have no worries that she will adapt perfectly to her new school because this place has taught her everything she needs to know.
