It was crowded but the place is so big that you can move around without issues. They had tons of games but we were there for the Rockafire Explosion. They have soooo many types and flavors of moonshine it's insane. My favorite spirits were the "Charred in a jar" series. They put a toasted oak stave inside of each jar so the spirits continue to age naturally. I bought a couple bottles of the Apple Butter flavor and put them in my garage so I'd get huge temp changes, it's already gotten better in six months. I need to buy more and age them like that for a few years. When I was there they were having a private event and everyone was dressed from the roaring 20's which was really cool to see. Far too many amazing memories to even begin to list. There used to be an amazing pier and an amazing floating dock. Epic games of water tag used to stretch from shore to shore. Then a despicable Wal-mart came to town, stripped off a mountaintop to plant itself, caused so much extra run-off that the state ordered the lake drained, and turned a bunch of happy, healthy, productive teenagers into alcoholics. Finally, many years and lawsuits later, the lake rebuilt a dam to suit the state and slowly refilled to its former self. Gone was the pier and the floating dock, gone was the camaraderie. The teens were adults now, and the new youth had no central place to gather. Still, it was better than barren. As an avid tattoo collector, I had long known I would get a rocker (slang for a stomach tattoo bearing some word), but had been remiss as to what I would get. One day my late father and I were venturing out to the store when we saw some other lake folk at the beach, toiling away on the beginnings of a new floating dock. We stopped to ask if we could help. There on the beach, a lightbulb went off in my head. How could I have not thought of this sooner? It was so obvious... My stomach now bears a banner that reads "CHAWEVA." Inked onto my body by none other than my best friend of 21 years, Matt Hays of Tat-Nice Tattoos in Huntington, West Virginia. Guess where he grew up? Yeah, he's a Chaweva Boy too.
