What an amazing children's museum! So well thought out. The first floor was hosting a dinosaur exhibit this month. My two year old loves the animatronic dinos. Also on the main level were an area about the body and how it works, a huge water table, and a music room with a laser harp! The lower level was incredible, too. There was a dinner, a medical clinic, cafe, bank, mechanic shop, grocery store, electronics shop, and a house being built. The level of thoughtfulness that went into the design of the town completely blows my mind. There are emergency vehicles with a laser light fire house to put out fires on TV screens. The kids can earn pretend money by working in the various parts of town and then take it to the little bank and make pretend withdrawals from the ATM. There's a working compact drill in the mechanic shop. There's a vacuum piping system for balls and handkerchiefs that pull them to the ceiling to be released. If you have kids under 8, this is an amazing center for learning and education through play! The kids were worn out after two floors of play, so we didn't even make it to the art gallery on the third floor.

We attended the Haley Reinhart concert on the 14th. Great theater design. Not a bad seat in the house. The sound had to much bass and the theater was very cold. Most people kept the coats on throughout the show. I also called the Clay Center to ask if there would be a meet & greet and told there was not. When we arrived we were informed we just missed the meet & greet.

Fantastic evening at the Clay Center with US Floyd! The band was amazing and he facilities at the Clay Center are top notch as always. The rating would be a 5 star if they didn't have the silly rule that drinks could not be taken out of the lobby. Quite ridiculous in 2018.

I have four boys ages 17 to 7. It's fun for them all! They especially enjoy the planetarium shows.

Margo Price/ Dead Man Winter/ The Company Stores/ Solas/ Jonny Fritz February 26, 2017 Mountain Stage is an institution - an NPR staple - that all music lovers should experience. If I lived nearby, I'd be there every Sunday a show was scheduled. With that said, instead of traveling for another taping in the future, I'll just send a yearly check for $40 and listen on the radio/ podcasts. A few things I wish I knew ahead of time: Our show was taped at the Civic Center Little Theater which is no bigger than a high school auditorium. Tickets are for general admission seats (first come, first seat) and the other attendees like to have buffer seat between their parties and use seats for coats. In addition, the ushers aren't equipped with flashlights to help seat. So, get there early and try to claim a seat. The bar. I messaged the venue and inquired if there was a bar. They correctly and promptly responded "they may serve up to show time." They weren't joking. The bar stopped serving before they started tapping (7:15). I'm guessing they don't want people too rowdy because it's a radio show. However, if we were to do it again, we'd have taken a flask or a bottle. Security was nonexistent - no bag checks, ticket scanners, metal detectors, pat-downs, flashlights ..... The parking garage may be $3-$5 (or it may not). Initially when we tried to park in the parking garage, we had to turn around and find an ATM, but when we returned, the parking attendant was gone. There's nothing to do in Charleston (at least on a Sunday night). Half the restaurants were closed because it was Sunday. The bars we went into after the show - no one was there. We eventually called mercy and just went back to the hotel and watched the end of the Oscar's.

The highlight for both kids was the big water play area: there are big water tables with lots of cool balls and little dams and pulleys, and there are stools for the littlest ones to reach it. There's also a good human body exhibit with some fun sports stuff (pulleys to try pulling yourself up, a little batting cage and basketball), a big firetruck that kids can play on complete with firefighter outfits, and more. You'll want to give yourself a good couple of hours to enjoy the museum (depending on the stamina of your little ones - and you!) There's also a planetarium, which we didn't visit. The museum is definitely pitched primarily to the under-10 crowd, I think. One of the neatest things (which is also a bit terrifying) is this huge climbing structure in the middle of the museum: it's literally a couple of stories tall, and has a bunch of platforms for kids to climb up. The three year old made it to the top! It's completely safe and walled in with sturdy mesh, so you can see kids climb and they can't fall. But I wouldn't be surprised if kids sometimes panic when they get to the top and don't want to go back down, and good luck following a child up there if you're a larger adult. Helpful info: PRICES: Admission is affordable, especially compared to bigger children's museums in other cities: $9 for adults and $7.50 for kids PARKING: You can park across the street for a few dollars. AMENITIES: There's a cafe, which has your typical hot dogs, pizza, and burgers, but also has some salads and healthy options. Good choices for vegetarians (big Greek salad and cheese pizza); not much for vegans. Prices are decent, especially for a museum cafe. This museum is connected to the Clay Center.

MyTown…read moregrocery store needs additional grocery items, and how about asking Kroger to donate some reusable shopping bags to use at checkout. The theater could use more props. The skimpy and clearly aged "costumes" that remained were faded and Velcro was too worn to secure anything. All the kids expressed disappointment when they would try putting on a cape that wouldn't fasten. The museum overall could use more benches for parents. You will see the most seats in the water play area however they only have Adirondack style chairs which were difficult for my husband and I to get out of due to back and knee issues. We went to the art center and my niece wanted to draw. We found crayons, markers, and colored pencils but no paper. She just wanted to draw. The area had displays of creative projects other children had made but the supplies were not there to create much of anything. No brads, no google eyes, no pipe cleaners, no construction paper. This museum could use some donations of art supplies. Perhaps they should seek donations from Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot to get some useful materials to add to the cardboard U-haul had donated. This should be a place that is always evolving, updating, keeping it "fresh and alive" with excitement. This place won't remain very popular at this rate. Your kids will love it but when there's a lot of kids there's not enough things to go around.
