What an experience! Just 2 Texans in Dijon, France at a Chinese restaurant. Honestly, we are not 100% sure what we ordered, but the owner/chef will make an attempt to tell you the menu of the day. I do believe he could speak French, but his English was iffy at best - this is important because there's no menu.
I know our first course was either dumpling or roll - we chose roll. As we hoped, basically Spring Rolls with a little pile of cold... IDK. Kinda crunchy... maybe like shredded bamboo shoots? Tasted good.
Second course was a choice of Chicken, Beef, or Pork and either rice or noodles. We both went chicken, 1 with noodles, 1 with rice. Both seemed very fresh and were flavorful. Next, he made 4 dessert offerings: chocolate cake, something hot(?)), coconut XXX, or something like 'jelly with Lotus juice'?
We chose the chocolate & the hot one. He instructed us to not cut the white balls in the juice that tasted a bit like weak, warm Jello. To say I was skeptical would be a drastic understatement. Thankfully hubby will eat anything and he took the first ball. He said the inside tasted a bit like peanut butter, so I did it, and it did! The chocolate... a chocolate sauce over something like a rice crispy treat. Great experience!! read more
