National truly does crisis residential the best of anywhere I've been…read more This is a crisis residential mental health residential program, for crisis stabilization with an average stay of two weeks. Groups are informative, employees (including licensed psychiatric technicians, licensed psychotherapists, licensed drug and alcohol counselors) are genuinely caring and supportive. You also get private therapy (and if interested) drug and alcohol counseling sessions, upon request, by licensed clinicians. Groups are informative and interesting: no oversimplification, here: they manage to make their content interesting and appealing to all clients - many places "dumb down" their content. Not here. Personal electronics are permitted in the facility and you're allowed to Instacart your own snacks. The food served is catered and pretty palatable. I have been here more than once, and was delighted to find many of the same people still working here - staff retention, to me, says a lot about a facility as mental health is generally notorious for churn and burnout. You are in extremely competent hands at National - they really know what they are doing and seem to only hire the best candidates.

Her care plans and personalized data sheets to get you on track functioning and enjoying life - they are treasures! I am turning 66 in November and recently had to review my notes and information provided by Kat regarding my initial treatments because I had fallen out of the parameters and the functional way of living (supplements when needed, nutrition and exercise) for optimal health and was not functioning.I have adhd, anxiety, depression, arthritis, TMJ, Asthma, adverse medication reactions and metabolic problems (overweight) which is giving me borderline high blood pressure,borderline pressure in my eyes (re:glaucoma), IBS and prediabetes. A recent trip to the ER - made me reevaluate the low standards of self care especially regarding diet. Kat had the good plan and I strayed. In addition, I jumped on the WFPB vegan nutrition but I could never go all in and felt hungry and unable to digest the foods. I could only lose weight eating about 800 calories a day. I believe this way of eating also led me eating more High Carb processed food especially feeding my Sugar addiction. I decided two months ago to get back on track with "High Fat" keto diet prescribed by Kat and gave absolutely no regard for scale numbers. Initially, I gained weight - but now two months in (with very few cheats) it is stabilizing and the numbers are coming down slightly. My sugar cravings are almost gone. Here is what is now happening to me eating very few carbs, HIGH FAT, mostly grass fed beef or pork or eggs, a few what I call neutral veggies (example- green beans), few berries, no seed oils, olive oil, Kerry Gold butter, and a dash of cream for 1/4 cup coffee in morning, staying away from sugar substitutes - I feel "happy" I have "energy" I am exercising - swimming over 1 mile 5 days a week, I walk on my rural property 6K to 10K steps a day,I have no aches and pains, I recover from repetitive swimming easily, my recall for names and where I place items has improved, I have no doom and gloom in the morning, My ADHD symptoms improving (able to clean up messes and organize). My figure is changing, I have definition in my biceps and calves and my waist is smaller. My weight is now concentrated in my hips and thighs and butt. My TMJ has improved. Sleep improved- not perfect yet (supplementing with Magnesium). I was able to cut my BP med in half - soon hope to eliminate. Able to stop using daily Inhaler for Asthma and haven't used my rescue inhaler in 1 month. What arthritis? Gone! My skin looks vibrant. For sugar cravings I drink bone broth. I stay full as not to stray from this way of eating and I only counted calories a few times to see how much I am really eating - it turns out to be 1500 to 2000 calories a day - that is what I feel I need. I only eat when I am hungry except if I think I might get tempted on an outing or something - I will eat before I go. Thank you Kat for helping me. I pray I will not be tempted back into the wrong diet - this way of eating and exercising is too important. I have big plans for my future and look forward to everyday.

The staff Vivian and Kala walked me through every step of treatment and closely monitored how I was responding to treatment. My life has changed. Anxiety is gone. He listens carefully, asks insightful questions and considers which medication would be most appropriate. He explains why he thinks a medication might be a good choice, and always goes over the possible side effects. He recommends psychotherapy if he feels it would be beneficial. He has given me incredible support throughout my late twenties up through my early 50's. I've had several ups and downs. I'm not an easy patient to work with. There is a reason I have always stuck with Dr. Hetnal. He is my rock. He always helps me deal with and overcome the challenges that have come my way. He goes above and beyond for his patients. He is the best.

This is a tough review to write. I first saw Dr. Saleem about a decade ago and found her friendly…read moreand polite. But when I started working with her, I noticed that she changed my diagnoses and started prescribing me different medications than I had ever had before. Nothing wrong with this inherently, but she diagnosed me with Bipolar disorder (which I've never been diagnosed with before or since) and put me on an antipsychotic (Geodon) which caused some really severe side effects (I was awake for several days, unable to sleep, and had some hallucinations towards the end). I told her at first that I didn't think an antipsychotic was the right fit and she told me to keep an open mind. After this happened, I felt I had experienced something very unethical, stopped seeing her, and switched to a new psychiatrist. My old psychiatrist retired, and I decided to give her another shot, with the understanding that I would never go on an antipsychotic again (not that antipsychotics are bad, just that they're not for me). In our first session, she showed up ten minutes late and didn't apologize. I also had to remind her that we worked together, and while she didn't remember me at first, she later added that she did remember me and that she remembers "helping (me) a lot." She also said she didn't recognize me because of the weight I've gained in the past ten years. This is the second doctor I've seen recently who has made a comment about my weight, and I am honestly pretty upset about it. Like many people, I gained weight during quarantine and am quite self-conscious about it. I would like to lose weight and hopefully will in the near future. But there's no need to treat a patient this way, and I'm honestly sort of floored that some doctors think it's acceptable or professional to behave in this manner. I really wish that this was a glowing, five-star review (as I want to see a great psychiatrist), but I have to be honest about my disappointment.
