First time in 2 years and we finally tried Mings. We went for the buffet dinner. They have a big selection, including sushi. You can still order off the menu but the food in the buffet tasted fresh. The dishes we tried were tasty (low mein, orange chicken, bbq pork, fried rice, chicken wings, salad and won ton soup) and while I wasn't disappointed, I wasn't impressed by any dish in particular either. The won ton soup was tasty but the won tons itself were kind of thick and maybe not cooked enough. The service was great and both the hostess and server were friendly and always making sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant itself is clean and very open. Still looking for a great place to eat Chinese food. read more

Let's start if you are looking for Chinese food, this restaurant will completely disappoint on ALL levels. There was NOTHING redeeming about any dish I ate. Every dish had been made to accommodate American tastes. There was not one authentic dish and how sad for that to occur just to stay in business. The Mongolian/sushi chef was the rudest person that I have ever encountered in a restaurant. I told the cashier about it and that person agreed with me. I've eaten here several times in the last 22 months. Everything is great: from the variety of hot dishes, to the sushi, to the Hibachi bar. Servers are very nice and helpful. It's a Chinese buffet. Plan accordingly - if you go when it isn't a normal meal time you will most likely get food that might have been there for some time. But if you go when they are busy or during a normal lunch or dinner timeframe you will get good, fresh American Chinese food. They're crab Rangoon are great and good bourbon chicken. The food is good, hot and plentiful but I had a bad experience with the older chef at the grill. He whisteled at me when it was my turn at the grill. I'm not a dog? I asked which sauce was the spiciest and he said, "I can put spice on it." Not exactly an answer to my question and it was grilled without any sauce. He held my finished plate in one hand and used the other to gesture toward the tip jar and said "thank you". Great expectations leads to ...BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!! It's sad to see that Ming's(the only buffet style Chinese restaurant in McMinnville) had 6-7 months to upgrade their restaurant during the COVID19 pandemic. They closed their doors and didn't do anything to this place! The carpet is nasty, the seats in the booth seats are terrible with a lot of them falling out when you stand up, or the cushioning in them is completely gone and you sit on a board with the seat all ripped up!! For as long as this place was closed it seems like they could have touched up some things in here but literally didn't even wash down the walls??!! Their nasty! read more

There was mold on the ice cream freezer, slime on the walls, raw meat sitting out near the "hibachi grill", the list goes on. When my family told the manager/owner? I loooooved the clams and it was only $30 all of the food was good,but I wanted to get ice cream but they got rid of it so that was the only down side other than that everything was amazing! I almost always enjoy Ming's (McMinnville, TN). The buffet is really good. The hibachi is a usual hibachi, nothing special. They have ready-to-eat sushi (which is good) on one end of the hibachi bar. The service is above average. The only complaints I have: the booth seats are sometimes sunk in or in an awkward position in relation to the table and the restrooms could use an upgrade. They have a very decent size food bar. They have sushi next to the hibachi grill. The salad bar is pretty fair. They have lots of items to choose from and a dessert bar. My son and husband love going there. I prefer a few more veggies but they do have some. The hibachi grill offers different meats, veggies and other items. Unsure how this place stays in business. Utterly awful food. I moved back to the McMinnville area in 2011. I tried eating here with my parents at that time, it was terrible. I didn't eat here for 10 years and thought it would worthwhile to try again. That was certainly a mistake. The matter they pass off as food is just beyond comprehension. Sesame chicken for example should be a relatively straightforward dish. The pan they had is full of heavily breaded mushy...something. It may possibly be chicken or chicken byproducts. The pork and scallions was definitely pork flavored but super chewy/rubbery. The vegetable egg roll felt like biting off and chewing rawhide. I understand inflation is hitting everybody hard. That said, the food quality is now so low that with both of us barely eating, my housemate and I are now sick. I don't usually leave negative reviews for food places, but $30 to put two people (who ate completely different menu items by the way) in agonizing pain? Re-examine your business practices. Food should not feel or taste like EXTRA grease was added afterwards, and sushi should not be left sitting out long enough for the rice to start HARDENING. I shudder to think what would be happening to me right now if I'd eaten the sushi that appeared to have raw fish. (I say "appeared to" to give maximum benefit of the doubt, since leaving raw fish out that long for someone to consume would possibly constitute criminal liability.) This is reasonable for McMinnville. I know people that aren't familiar with the area expect a meal of royalty. In all this is a great place for a sit down buffet with great food. Where are the vegetables? The hubby and I ate at Ming's recently for the dinner buffet, and while the food on the hot bar was fresh, the vegetable choices are pitiful. Broccoli, onions, and an occasional carrot were included in the dishes, but that was it. Most Chinese buffets use a variety of things like snow peas and green beans in their hot-bar dishes, but MIng's offers nothing like that. If you like starches, though, this is the place to go - I counted four different kids of potatoes: butter-sauteed potatoes, crinkle fries, curly-spiced fries, and hash-round/tater-tot-looking things. They also had onion rings and two varieties of "donut." For an inexpensive, small-town Chinese buffet, it's not horrible. The food is fresh, and things always seem clean.
