These girls are kicking ass and taking names--literally! My first bout was the one where Savage Animal broke her leg. I was sad to see her go, but really impressed by all of the skaters taking a knee while she was attended to. I was also very happy to see her announcing alongside John Maddening the next season while she recovered. The refs have great names (Spike, Mani-Ax, E-Radicator...) and take their jobs seriously. The rollergirls are sexy but won't hesitate to hip check their opponents and send them sprawling into the trackside seats. The announcers are hilarious even if the acoustics are terrible. And polka...ohh, the polka...and the PBR. Long story short, if you've never been to a bout, what the hell are you waiting for?!

I can't help but compare the Minnesota RollerGirls to my Brew City Bruisers team but they were great, too! It's a talented group, which makes for really exciting bouts. The arena was cool, I liked the lights. It was difficult to hear the announcers and it would have been nice if they would say the players' names more throughout (or maybe they were and I just couldn't hear!). I would have liked to know who was who - especially when scoring, oh, 30 points in one jam! I thought the halftime show was way too long - I just want to see the bouts. A big crowd advanced on the main floor though, so I know a lot of people enjoyed it. I thought the Hug and High Five Cam was a really fun idea! Overall, this is a great time and worthwhile sport to support.

We had a great time last Saturday. As first-timers, the "101" was a big help. Shiver-Me-Kimbers answered all of our questions in the stands.

I arrived about 7 minutes early for class and the large gym space had about three people inside. The front desk was empty and there was no real way to know what to do to get checked in. I asked another person what I should do and she told me the instructor would be there any minute . A few more people came in right before class along with the instructor. The direction was to do the warm up. As someone new I expected a little bit of an overview and a warmer welcome. I introduced myself and said this is my first class so I don't know what to expect. The directions weren't much different than "warm up". I asked a few questions so I could understand the format of the class. Once I got this was strictly weight training with a circuit like format decided to just go with the flow. The workout itself was slow in the beginning, there was quite a bit of downtime and talking from other people in the class. While the workout was challenging I felt the directions and modeling were lacking. The gym itself was much like a large auxiliary gym and it appeared to be a shared space that isn't well managed because things were out of place, dusty, and someone else was trying to use the same equipment as the class during the class. Overall I think I got a good workout but there is some room for improvement to the space and operations.

Killer place for athletes that are serious. Staff is expert. Very welcoming to new people.read more

As Good as it Gets…read more Although The Grand Rounds Scenic Byway (abbreviated GRSB from here forward) is physically a couple of blocks from the hustle and bustle of the city, it is mentally a world away. GRSB is a 50-plus mile green beltway of parkways and trails that encircle Minneapolis. Along its miles of picture postcard trails; the GRSB leads to eight lakes, water falls, the Mississippi River riverfront, forests, cultural sights, forests, Meadows, bridges, Uptown, downtown, and other points of interest. If you are searching for a waterside trail in Minneapolis, chances are you will meet up with the GRSB. I am a lover of the outdoors and nature. When I visited Minneapolis for a week it wasn't if I was going to see the river; it was "how often?" Understandedly it is impossible to hike the totality of a 50-plus mile trail on a vacation. I ended up exploring two segments of it on three different hikes. On two hikes I explored the Mississippi Riverfront segment east of downtown from The Plymouth Avenue Bridge at the north to the Stone Arch Bridge at the south. On a third hike I explored the east Bde Maka Ska (also Lake Calhoun) shore southwest) of Uptown from 36th Street to Lake Street. Being a bike trail enthusiast, I was super impressed. Besides the nature in the city scenery I appreciate that the dual rights of way that separate the bicyclists from the hikers. Throughout the trail there is sufficient trail markers, signs, benches, and landscaping; yet very little if any graffiti. If my Minneapolis vacation was a movie when I first got on GRSB was the climax. A few minutes after egressing the Hennepin River Bridge I was engulfed in a forested Mississippi River landscape. This segment was the ultimate connector to the same Mississippi River that bridges the northernmost state to the Gulf of Mexico. The scenery and connection to the mother River were so positively overwhelming that for a few minutes I contemplated throwing my bills, job, and stresses down the river and becoming a permanent river nomad. Although that did not happen, the hike momentarily released my stress. That is what a fantastic trail does. Along the GRSB I'd enjoy a vacation from stress along forested trails overlooking the Mississippi. The stress-free walk east of the city led me to vistas of Mississippi River bridges, mills ruins, water-falls, a light house, and other sights that would exceed the Yelp character limit. Southwest of Uptown, it led me to a nearly continuous picturesque view of Bde Maka Ska (also Lake Calhoun) at the lake and a linear forest to the right. The sundown above the lake was a saratorium rise in my brain. The GRSB is as good as it gets. Too bad my free time and money isn't. If I had unlimited time and money I'd be back in Minneapolis spending indefinite hours on the GRSB.

Since the 2012-13 season, the Minnesota Wild have been almost a perennial playoff team. However,…read morethe Wild have routinely lost in the first or qualifying rounds. They've yet to get over the hump and make it to the Stanley Cup Finals. The closest the team got was in 2003. That year, they got swept by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (now the Anaheim Ducks), 4-0, in the Western Conference Finals. That said, all things considered, the Wild haven't done bad considering they're one of the NHL's youngest teams (founded in 2000). Only the Vegas Golden Knights (2017) and Seattle Kraken (2021) are newer. The Wild play at Xcel Energy Center, located in the Northwestern Precinct of Downtown St. Paul. The arena is referred to as "The X" and it opened in 2000. It was built specifically so St. Paul could get an NHL team. With a seating capacity of about 18,000, the X is in-line with most other NHL venues (15-20k seats). In team history, former Wild players Mikko Koivu and Marian Gaborik are probably the most well-known as both are ranked in the top two in terms of total points and goals scored. Koivu, who is from Finland, has also recorded the most games for the Wild at an even 1,000. Today, the Wild's best-known players are left-winger Zach Parise and defensemen Ryan Suter and Jared Spurgeon. Parise and Suter were both members of the silver-medal-winning US hockey team at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver (Suter's dad was on the famous 1980 team that beat the Soviet Union). Since joining the team in 2012, both Parise and Suter have been key cogs in the Wild's consistent run of playoff appearances. Currently, both are alternate captains. Spurgeon first signed with the Wild earlier, in 2010, and recently signed a $53 million extension that will see him in Minnesota through the 2026-27 season. He and fellow defenseman Jonas Brodin are presently locked up the longest, contract-wise. The four aforementioned players are among the team's highest-paid at this time.

If you have been reading my reviews for a while, you know that I lived in Rochester, MN for two…read moreyears. My first year as a Minnesotan was the Minnesota Wild's inaugural year. As a result, I have a soft spot for this team. I got cable TV when I first settled in my apartment. However, I wasn't getting a ton of NHL hockey games. I was a huge hockey fan back then. I put the FAN in FANatic. I ended up changing my cable plan to basic and got the NHL game package with DIRECTV, which wasn't AT&T back then, but is now. The guy over the phone was saying that I get NFL games with my base package, which was probably a decent selling point to most Americans. I remember saying to him, "I don't care about football. I need hockey games!" Anyway, I was pleased watching local Wild games on the lone, local FOX channel whenever they were available, and all the away games on DIRECTV. Anyone remember Mike Goldberg, one of the play-by-play Wild hockey announcers on FOX? He always pronounced the last syllable of every word. Some examples: "Hi, I'm Mike Goldber-guh." "Goal by Gabori-k!" "Dow-d is in the faceoff circle." I understood the pain of losing an NHL team and getting it back. I went through it with the Winnipeg Jets. Minnesota lost its Stars team, which ended up in Dallas. When Minnesota got the Wild as its new NHL team, you knew it was the right decision. Minnesotans are diehard hockey fans. They are passionate and breathe hockey. The fanbase is loyal and strong to this day. The team's tagline is fitting and meaningful: Our state. Our team. Our ice. I couldn't get a ticket to see a game at the Xcel Energy Center as a resident of the state. I ended up putting a deposit on season tickets and returned to Canada, forgetting about this deposit for eons... until now. I recently got a game pack and went to my first Wild game. Miracles happen! The Wild have struggled to make it into the playoffs. I hope that they will someday as they continue getting the right mix of players. This year's team has a good mix of experience and talent. I am pleased to support the Wild. Xcel Energy Center is a great place to take in a hockey game. There isn't a bad seat in the house. It's fun and exciting! The food is decent. I can't wait to return soon to take in another game. Go, Wild! (425)
