She helped us practice before leaving us to try to play on our own. The lounge area is a nice spot to warm up and they allow you to order in food as well! This is an especially great way to get your work involved in some volunteer work. I organized a group from my company to volunteer with ABWK this week and it was a wonderful experience. It's very easy to sign up a group and you don't need a large group to participate. Habitat for Humanity supplies everything you need for the project, all you need to do is bring the volunteers and your lunch. The volunteer day lasts from 8:30 to 4:00 in the summer. Most projects in the summer consisit of painting and scraping. They also do work in the winter where they work on the interior of homes. This program is a wonderful way to help people in the community and it definitely leaves you feeling fulfilled!

The staff are fun and friendly, the ice is usually in pretty good condition, and they have pretty reasonable prices compared to a lot of the other arenas in the area. We even had a work team learn to curl event here for a team bonding event and everyone had a blast. On top of all of this - in the evenings there is a restaurant and bar located next to the ice that is open (Moe's) so you can grab a beer to go and bring it to the ice! Overall, a great time! He had secured a spot for a team at the legendary Saint Paul Curling Club and invited me in. I had never Curled a day in my life but decided to give it a go. So happy I did. First practice I fell down again and again and again. First match I was hyperventilating from sweeping for another newbie. Practice makes better. Everyone at the club has been super cool about playing with our group of novices. Getting excited for next season this October. We have a handful of wins under our belt and even competed in a Bonspiel (Curling Tournament). The tradition in curling is that the winning team buys the losing team a round of beer. Kind of torn now between winning and free beer.

The club itself is located on a busy part of Selby Avenue in St. Paul. I've noticed the club with its red neon lights; a number of times while in the neighborhood. After eating next door on a Friday night, I decided I should try to coral my friends and take a peek inside. What we found was a tournament going on. We were greeted by a woman who was a great spokesperson for the club and the sport. She was friendly and shared with us all about the sport and the history of this special club. There's a bar upstairs too that offers a small bar food menu and overhead views of the curling lanes. I recommend to anyone to stop in and see for yourself. I plan on coming back to watch a little more over a beer...or two.
