Dr. Jill and the team over at MINT are without a doubt, the best dentist office in the area, and the best I've ever went to. They go above and beyond to make you comfortable when you have to get a filling or a crown. Trust me, I've had plenty done. They also explain everything and are eager to answer any questions. I had a temporary crown fall out recently which really freaked me out. Holly drove in on her day off (on a weekend when the office was closed) to reset it for me. Pros: The hygienists are amazing and the office is clean, modern and very accommodating of scheduling. Cons: I feel the Dr Jill takes a more aggressive approach than I'm comfortable with and I found after getting a second (and third) opinion that the new dentists did not come to the same conclusions as the team here. I also had some concerns with a specialist recommended by the Dr Jill and was told she would follow up and she never did. Overall, I know plenty of people who have great experiences with Mint. It's just not the right place for my children and I encourage others to get a second opinion if it seems Mint says work is needed after every visit. read more

I've had a horrific journey replacing a crown with Mint Dental. They told me a loose crown was a result of decay that went to the root, sent me for a root canal, and at my request for more novacaine at the follow up crown appointment, refused it and wouldn't do the work- wasting my day off work. I had to return to the Endodontist who told me there was nothing wrong, and he didn't understand why they wouldn't give me more Novacaine and just finish the crown. I then followed up 5 times trying to get in to return to get my crown replaced, left with an open gap where the temporary crown was, and no response. I was told I would have to pay an additional $2,000 out of pocket to finish the crown process by Mint Dental. When I checked with my insurance, they said that wasn't the case, I had over $1K to use. I left multiple messages at Mint asking that they call my insurance to clarify- no response. I finally went to a new dentist- telling him it'd been since JULY since I had my crown removed and couldn't get back into Mint to get it fixed. Mint offered me an appointment in late January- didn't care that my temporary had been gone for MONTHS, didn't consider it an emergency. They didn't sent xrays when requested- sent xrays years old instead of the xrays from this year. (This is after my family of 4 going there for years and spending a TON on dental work- and that's with the best insurance you can get!) The new dentist said it would cost $200 out of pocket to finish the process. NOTE- 10X LESS than Mint Dental!!!!!!! I was also told by Mint Detnal REPEATEDLY that I needed surgery for gum recession- FALSE!!!! New dentist said my gums are great, just need some bonding for fixing enamel. Antoher instance- Mint Dental ignored for a year my complaints of pain in my jaw- saying it was nothing- which turned out to be a cyst that needed surgical removal last January. Do not go here! Do not put your kids or your family at risk of needless dental work and outrageous prices with HORRIBLE patient concern and treatment. We left- after years of our family of 4 being patients, and are not looking back. read more

I wasn't going to leave a comment but after reading several patient comments with similar situations I felt I should. The front desk girl Holly is not friendly at all. Sat in the waiting room for five minutes before she handed us papers for our first time appointment. No greeting whatsoever. The hygienist was very sweet and professional . Dr Jill said my daughter had 12 cavities and some so bad they would need crowns. My daughter had just come out of braces and had never had a filling before. I took her for a second opinion at One Grand Smile in River Grove. Dr Siwek said she most definitely did not need crowns and placed a few fillings. If you want to spend a lot of money for rude customer service and an incorrect dental diagnosis then this is the practice for you! Please get a second opinion from another dentist. I left this office quickly after a terrible experience. I am a health care practitioner and come from a family of doctors, nurses, surgeons and pharmacists so I fully understand the way health care works. For the most part, I have been regular with dental exams, cleanings and overall care throughout my life. When I switched to this office, a closer option for me, Dr. Jill told me I needed extensive work - upwards of $15k (out of pocket) with numerous crowns. I was shocked! Additionally, she said that it was urgent and I should receive this care all within the next 3-4 months. This was in response to me asking about spacing it out over 6 months to have more FSA funds available. Unreal! I asked for my x-rays and shared them with my sibling (an oral surgeon) who reviewed them and was so shocked, decided to share them with several colleagues. I also shared the x-rays with my previous dentist (located in downtown Chicago). Every single dentist consulted was outraged at the treatment plan that was recommended to me. It has been a few years since this occurred and I have had no dental issues and zero crowns needed. Not only would this have put me out $15K for completely unnecessary work but I would have had 8 crowns in 3 months in my early 30s! What kind of teeth would that leave me in my 60s? none! Stay away from this office. I've had many side conversations like this with local families who feel the same. **Editing to add: Yelp informed me that this review was reported due to a potential conflict of interest. My family of 5 recently moved to Oak Park and I was in search of a dental practice that specializes in both adults and children (3 kids aged 6 and younger). Dr. Jill and her staff were extremely accommodating when scheduling our various first appointments, and it was especially helpful having the 6pm option for work schedules. This was probably my best dental experience ever and my 4 year old daughter was especially excited by the unicorn toy she picked out. It would be convenient if the office offered Invisalign like my previous dentist, but Dr. Jill had a good explanation as to why they don't and had a referral list ready to go. Super nice team. Visited once with my younger son. The hygienist was great with him, he was offered a snack while waiting (bottled water and Babybel cheese--he was thrilled). We saw a very nice substitute dentist because the dentist was on vacation. I had a bit of sticker shock at the cost of the visit, but dentists are always expensive. Afterward I had some sort of snafu with scheduling where I left several messages over the course of several weeks requesting follow up appointments but never received a return call. Based on other reviews, this seems uncharacteristic. Because my son had a cavity that needed attention I decided to take him to another local dentist who Ive been very happy with and whose prices are much more reasonable. The office is beautiful, as mentioned in other reviews, but while we were there I was very bothered by a strong mildewy smell similar to a wet basement, it made my eyes itch. I have recently starting going to Mint Dental and they are great! Very friendly, professional and best of all-- minimal discomfort! I had some unfortunate dental experiences in the last 10 years that had given me a newfound fear of going to the dentist. Not anymore! I had a crown placed today and was surprised that it didn't hurt at all. I'm also amazed at the dental technology at their disposal! I was very impressed by the office and liked the way everything worked together. However, I was told that I had 4 cavities having never had one before in my life and that they needed to be fixed ASAP. I made the appointments to get them fixed and was given the amount that would be paid by insurance and how much I would be charged over due to what insurance doesn't cover. I was charged more and am still receiving bills even though I paid more than my deductible and most of the charge was covered. I later went to another dentist who said that they didn't all need to be fixed at this time. They did cover the cleaning part that insurance did not want to pay because insurance said it wasn't necessary and they determined was necessary. The biggest problem is that they don't communicate effectively. I emailed and called and never heard back when I tried to get more information regarding the bill until I wrote this review. The office is immaculate and feels pleasant to be in. This practice is wonderful! Mint dental was originally referred to me when my family and I first moved to the area about 3 years ago. My kids and I have been going here ever since and I have never been disappointed. My 13 month old son fell and knocked his tooth out. In a panic I called my pediatrician. She referred me to Dr. Jill and called her office to tell them we'd be on our way. When we got there everyone was so friendly and accommodating. They took my information and Dr. Jill saw my son within just a few minutes of being there. Because of how his tooth fell out and fear of a possible fracture, Dr. Jill wanted to get a second opinion from an oral surgeon to make sure everything was handled correctly right from the start. She herself called numerous different offices trying to find us a pediatric oral surgeon that could see us right away, instead of leaving that for me to do on my own. She found one and got us an appointment that same afternoon. I called Dr. Jill's office once we were done at the oral surgeon and let her assistant know how everything went. Dr. Jill called me back later that afternoon to follow up with me personally and hear everything for herself. I was so thoroughly impressed with how they treated us from start to finish. My kids had never seen her prior to walking in her office that day but she handled us like we had been her patients for years. She helped make what was a stressful situation for me a little less scary. I was actually starting the process of looking for a pediatric dentist, but it seems that I'll have to look no further. I've been going to Mint Dental for two years and it is hands down the best dental experience I've ever had. Dr. McMahon is so nice and easy to work with. I found Dr. McMahon (and Kim) to be really knowledgeable and did a good job of explaining what they were doing and what it meant when they found something in easy terms to understand. I've had several cavities filled and normal cleanings, and they are always good and explaining and giving you options for fixing a problem. They are also very easy going and easy to call up, schedule appointments, etc. They also send you great info over email such as appointment reminders and confirmations, text messages with similar info (if you opt in of course), so I'm not sure how that other reviewer could possibly say they are not communicating. The office atmosphere is so incredibly relaxing it is nothing like any other dentist office--it looks more like a west elm store and has coffee, UVerse TV, wifi, etc. Very relaxing. Extra: Make sure you take a business card: they are in the waiting area all with different funny designs and pictures. read more

I wrote a review when Mint first opened (5 stars) a few years ago and just wanted to say that I continue to take our family and really love the service. Our 3 kids just had their regular checkups yesterday, ages 4, 5, and 7 and they just LOVE going to the dentist. Jill is the only dentist they have ever been to and they LOVE her. LOVE Mint Dental. Don't know what a previous reviewer is talking about RE staff not communicating effectively - they sure do! In my experience they've always been so responsive, helpful and courteous. Insurance: they accept it, and will work with you if you don't have it. (I've experienced Mint from both sides of the road). Atmosphere: relaxing! Spa-like atmosphere - I actually ENJOY going to see the dentist! Services: excellent. Dr. Jill and her team are really amazing. Never pushy with what they want to do to your mouth. And, I would say, conservative in treatment - I have some "watch" spots for cavities that are monitored, but have not needed to be filled (yet, anyway) under Dr. Jill's care. I've seen other dentists who, I have felt, pushed to do fillings even when not necessary. Extras: You will get the best dentist goodie bag here. The chapstick is AMAZING! I just took my twin 3 1/2 year olds to the dentist for the first time. Taylor was our super sweet hygenist. She showed the kids all of her instruments to make them comfortable with what was about to happen. They have a nice, clean office with TVs at every chair, the kids loved being able to watch cartoons during the cleaning. The actual dental work was fantastic but Mint dental charged my insurance for an oral evaluation for my 4 year old son when he never even opened his mouth because he was afraid. They also told me they called my insurance company to find out what my out of pocket would be for dental work I needed. It ended up being more then double what they told me it would be but I didn't find out till after the work was done and I was stuck paying the balance. I was also treated like a child and was threatened to be charged anyway when I had to call to cancel an appointment day of. read more
