There are lots of black and white photos of boats and ships, all in Poole harbour, and some of them are very old. I had a half of Ringwood 49er - sorry ale lovers, I can't do it! I want my bacardi and coke! Found it just too filling and not the right taste for me - it's beer. More like German bier though. I'll certainly be back to try some of the food. Dogs are often in the pub and it's a bit smelly and grubby. The menu is good though and the service is good and comes with a smile. Its clear one of those 'locals' pubs but new visitors are welcome. The three house red wines are priced extortionatly at $5.95 for the least expensive. (I don't have a pound symbol on this PC). Entrees begin at 7.95. So no one is going to get a budget meal or drink here. The food, however, is excellently cooked and presented, and quite delicious. The space is beautifully decorated with a theme of local black and white photos with blue and yellow paint for added effect. These are enormous and suspended from the ceiling as well as on big walls. The windows overlook part of the Marina and there are views of Brownsea Island. Try it, it's worth it. But it may not become a regular haunt unless you're fairly loaded.

Unless you know the statue is there, you can walk by without noticing! What a shame. Also, the statue is black and feels like some sort of resin. Since Poole is where it is, one would have thought Purbeck stone was more appropriate, and certainly more noticeable. I happen to know this statue cost hundreds of thousands of pounds. How sad that it is barely noticeable, and has no plaque or epithet. I think it's ended up being more of an insult than a tribute! The Scouts were started on Brownsea Island in 1908, and a jamboree was held there earlier this year. Scouts came from all over the world. For some reason, Prince William went to another one elsewhere in the Uk - I don't think Brownsea has a helipad. Very disappointing.

A fairly pleasant lunch, an awful evening meal and a complimentary evening meal to make up for the first one. So the service is hit and miss, it seems. The last meal there was great but they were doing their best to compensate for the one before. They were almost falling over themselves to make us have a great experience. The staff are pleasant enough, just a bit dingy from time to time. We had been left waiting for ages during our first evening meal... Again the furning is elegant, the same reddish theme as downstairs. The seating is comfortable and relaxed. The food is good, but I feel it's a bit overpriced for the size of the portions. Everything is well presented. A great place if you want to show that you have taste and style, but there are other places here you can do that for a bit less money,
