Everything was already…read morepacked, but they came over, had a look at everything, which was boxed and ready to go, and they said that they were not going to do it as there was a lot of stuff that was loose an not boxed up. The unboxed stuff was what I was going to take, not them., I pointed this out, but they still refused. And they ALSO said to contact Two Burley Men.

After about 45 minutes they hadn't come back in to start packing. At $205 an hour, I sure want to see packing and not smoke breaks. I want out and asked what was up. The crew chief said rudely that there was too little space for them to pack and they had called the boss about it.?????????? He was talking somewhat scornfully to me. What the hell? That's like having a mover show up and say they can't lift boxes, so they won't do the job. I tried to call the firm but no answer. I emailed the estimator but no answer. I went out again to ask them to commence the job. They refused. The crew chief rudely told me to call 2 Burley Men. No other solutions were offered. The house was as seen by the firm's estimator, and no problems or required prep work was mentioned to us. We hired packers because the deadline to move out - our house is sold - is close, so even though the estimate was high, $205 an hour, I hired the firm and paid a deposit. The workers would not return to do the job. The crew chief's arrogance let me to strongly suspect that if they did the job, they would do it poorly and our belongings, some of which have dollar and sentimental value, would be at risk. I know that it never works out well if you have to force or convince someone to do a job against their will. I told the crew chief to do the job, he declined. He swore obscenely as he got into his truck to leave, calling me a variety of generic nasty names like 'fuckin' asshole' etc. Just as well. There's no way I'd want to hire a packer who couldn't do such a simple job. The crew chief was too incompetent to do the job he was hired for. Incidentally, There were none of those lauded uniforms. These guys didn't even take off their shoes, which were not safety footwear, I have a varnished wood floor. Thanks for the damage, jerks. My lawyer advises me that this firm will be liable for the difference in cost between their estimate and what it will cost me to do a rush last minute move with a different firm. Later I get a call from Rebecca, who introduces herself as the spokesperson for the firm. She insisted that the crew left and didn't do the job because I had told them to leave. I did not. They left and refused to do the job. So the crew chief is lying as well as incompetent and miserable at customer relations. Let me point out that I have cameras with audio and there were three of us in the house that can confirm the facts. Rebecca took the position that I had declined services. This is not the case. Her crew chief refused to work. I had no option except to hire a different frim or be unable to complete my move. Chose a more professional and reliable firm than this one. Rebecca would be wise to get rid of her packing crew chief and replace him with a decent person. Rebecca, you better fire that guy in order to preserve what you can of your business. Regards, Shaun

The highlights: Brent was organized and extremely helpful when I called to book; rates and expectations were clearly set out; the move confirmation email arrived quickly; for both moves I got an ETA call from the movers when they were on their way; the movers (Cody both times, and a different crew with him each time but to a man personable, respectful, well-prepared, and professional) were careful and efficient moving our belongings; the bill was exactly as expected; during our first move with Papa's we got both a friendly guide to our new neighbourhood and help re-assembling a lot of finicky furniture (that was a great introduction to Vancouver!). I highly recommend Papa's Moving. The rates are very reasonable and the service is excellent. It also feels good to support a family company of nice, helpful people that seem to genuinely care about making your move as quick and easy as possible. On my most recent move the guys even gave me a frozen water bottle- it might not sound like much, but I felt like they were looking after my things and me during the move. That feeling is priceless during stressful moving times.

Everything seems normal. The day of they are late. Cody calls at 930am saying they cant come and they have no team, asks if they can come the next day at 9. Sure. I do some juggling of tasks. Next day, NOTHING. No message, NO Call, No reaching out. GHOSTED. Still calling 2 days later and nothing. Left my family scrambling to find fine a last minute moving company that can show up same day. Thankfully we did but it ended up costing us probably an extra 300 to 500 dollars. Stay away DO NOT USE

BEWARE is the best advice I can offer after two experiences with TALO…read more This is what I have learned to expect from them: They will be late. On the first move, they were 3 hours late because a driver had called in sick. That can happen, and I thought it forgivable. Two years later on the second move, they were 4 hours and 40 minutes late. Again "a driver called in sick". Apologies were offered on both occasions, but that did nothing to mitigate the exhaustion experience by this senior caused by a 9-hour moving day for a 550 square foot space. They will lose something. On the first move, vacuum cleaner attachments went missing. I didn't notice this until the next day so too late to report. On the second move, two woven baskets and a 3-foot silk plant went missing. This I noticed and reported within an hour of the team leaving but I received only repeated assurances of how important my concern was and how "Our top priority as your go-to home moving company is the protection and safety of your possessions". Nice words, no action. There will be damage to something. On the first move, it was minimal. The leg of a dresser was loosened and bent and the frame of a folding table was slightly bent. On the second move, there was damage to a leg on each of two recliners, a chip out of a wooden kitchen table, and slight damage to the finish of a TV stand. Again, I was far too tired to notice these things before the team left, so too bad for me. The team will be friendly and personable. Fairness demands that I report the good as well as the negative. Justin and Jason were both very pleasant to deal with and are good ambassadors for TALO. This is the first negative review I have ever posted in any circumstance but conscience dictates that I alert unsuspecting potential clients of the pitfalls that I met with on two separate encounters with Take A Load Off Moving Ltd.

Doesn't matter if they are experienced or brand new to moving, the replacements are the worst movers I've ever experienced. I've had numerous moves for over 50 years. The company appeared to be competent and well organized professionals but moving day was the worst ever. The "manager" threw the bosses plan out the window and did as he pleased. Many antiques were damaged. It took them 12 hours to load drive 5 minutes and unload. I could go on but I'd like to forget this experience. Just don't hire them on a long weekend.

FYI, Jacob and Alonso were amazing!…read more Where do I begin...I paid for a move into one of their lockers for a month. Then they were to bring my belongings to my new place Jan. 2022. They arrived late after letting me know to be there at 10am because 'the guys like to start early', they were 1 1/2 hours late because they had to fill up the truck (on my time). They left after dropping off my stuff and I quickly began to realize that I was missing a bunch of boxes and two shelving units, plus one of the shelves to my lovely hutch. I contacted and spoke with Andrew Foster about locating my belongings, he said, 'he was working on it and he'd have the guys look again in my locker'. I received a text from Andrew with a photo of my family's old truck which one of the items I was so upset about having it 'misplaced'...I was thrilled. But they were still trying to locate all my stuff, so they were going to 'tear a wall down in the warehouse to find the rest?! I learned that when they can't fit everything into the locker, they store it in the warehouse and separate it with 'walls', 'you know moving blankets' he said. What? I paid for a locker, why didn't anyone tell me this or at the very least, make a note on my file as to where they put my other belongings? "They forgot" The remainder of my items were found, 'in his office in an alcove' or something! Finally the 2nd load of my belongings were dropped off and left outside under the cover of deck. So I alone had to move all those boxes and two shelving units into my place. (I have arthritis in my back and Fibromyalgia, I am on disability), no offer was made and still no compensation for this trouble and added stress. Once I had pulled all the boxes in the house, I began to go through them. One of the last boxes I went through was one of my bathroom boxes, the minute I opened it, it was very clear that a rodent had eaten through the box and everything was covered in rodent droppings. I moved it outside and emailed Andrew, both myself and my friend and advocate messaged him because at this point I was livid. He blamed me and said I shouldn't have packed food in my bathroom box (of course I didn't). He distracted the conversation with comments like, 'in all my 15 years of business no one has ever made a claim' and 'I have never know our warehouse to have a rodent problem'. Like I must have made all of this up. He was sent photos, my quote stating I paid for a locker as well as 2 moves. He has refused to pay for any of my items ruined in that rat box. That's the only thing I was seeking, that some of my damaged items be replaced. These items were ruined from not being stored in a locker. I can not afford to replace these items, being on disability and not working at the moment. Just a terrible way to conduct business. I understand that mistakes happen, but how you deal with those mistakes, speaks volumes about the business and the integrity of the owner.
