I am in math L/1A1 which is for students who struggle with the subject. I have a disorder that makes the numbers on the pages fly around and equations don't make any sense to me. Math is incredibly hard for me to even begin working on. I also have an IEP. My teacher has provided me none of the accommodations I legally am required to have, so I failed my first trimester of math and am currently failing my second. In middle school, I was given all my accommodations in math and ended the year with a B, which is incredible for me. Both my parents have called the teacher herself, and the school, multiple times. No response or a "we'll get back to you blabab", and nothing ever happens. I have expressed my feelings to my counselor and case manager, nothing is being done. I do not enjoy being a student here. You are promised many things-accommodations, available resources, trustworthy teachers ect. I dont have much to say about the students, they are as you would expect teenagers to be. But I hear white students say the N word, I've heard a group of boys openly mock an Indian girl (copying her accent and twisting up their faces), ect. I have never seen a teacher call out a student before. I had a boy call me a pussy for speaking quietly, the teacher heard, said nothing. No accountability in this school. There's also a huge issue with vaping, but nothing is done. Maybe that is just every school though. If you are a straight A student who doesn't have any mental issues, you will probably thrive here. (Forgot to mention, but there is an autistic boy in my math class who is frequently mocked by the other students and the teacher bullies him on a regular basis. She treats him like he is a idiotic liability, and also refuses to give him the help he needs). If you have more than two questions a day in class, prepare to be cut off or yelled at. :)

The drop off and pick up situation is dangerous at best. Just to put it into context, a child was hit by a car leaving the school last year. There is not adequate parking, most zones around the school are marked red so you can't park there, and no one (including staff and law enforcement) are on the same page about where you can and cannot pull up to pick up your child. I have had my child enrolled in other schools and it was ran so much more smoothly and safely than this school. There is no accountability and children are released haphazardly off school grounds.

Recently it has had a turn over in Principals. Since then, and even prior the school has not been focusing on the important things, a well rounded, safe school. Over the passed year my son, (8th Grader) has been harassed/bullied, by another child everyday. He has damaged his personal property on numerous occasions. My son chose to ignored it because he (my son) is much taller and didn't want trouble. The school staff brought this bullying situation up to the Principals and brought my son in to speak with him to check on his wellbeing. The school DID NOT NOTIFY ME!!! The way I found out (before my son was home from school) was the attendance hot line calling me to please excuse my sons absence from 2nd period. That was when I found out about everything. On the last week of school 2019, this same bully assaulted my child by hitting him in the head, three times in P.E. class. Of which I learned the P.E. teacher told my son previously, that he has a few options with this bully. He could hit him, but he would get in trouble, or he could choose to stay away from him. My son had repeatedly chose the latter. When my son came home and told me this bully hit him three times in the head, I emailed both the Assistant Principal and the Principal. Please remember I was notified about the school's staff being concerned for my sons well being, ONLY because the attendance recording called me. I heard back from both principals the following day. Of which they told me in writing that they have interviewed the witnesses independently, and I quote, 'All three statements and recollection of the events from yesterday were very much in alignment'. He carried on to mention my son is very polite and respectful. I was told, and I quote, 'Unfortunately, we are unable to share the consequences with you, as we are only able to speak you about your son'. The next day was 8th Grade promotion, 2019. I was awaiting my sons name, and first heard and saw the child that assaulted my child 2 days before, walk and get his promotion certificate. I felt so sorry for my son. He is just a stupid number at BMMS school. They had proof and still the child didn't get suspended. He stood up there proud as can be. This school is not focused on your child's safety. They aren't behind the ball, they chasing the ball. Such as having these young impressionistic children, abruptly leave their classrooms without their belongings, so the drug dogs can have a good sniff. Oh and you aren't, as a parent, notified about that happening either. Its all bad. I am a very fair person, but this school has a lot of work to do. I can't tell you how many families I know that pulled their families from there at the end of a year. I should have in recollection. Talk to other parents from the other surrounding middle schools, we all feel the same about BMMS.

Mr. Corso is very enthusiastic and caring which is always appreciated but he also listened to the students and parents and worked to "beautify" a very ugly campus. I was also impressed with most of the teachers ability to implement online learning. I know it was not easy for them, but they really cared and worked hard to keep the kids focused. While they did not teach much that was new, they did put a lot of effort into reinforcing what was previously taught. Well done!

After Jerabek rid itself of the horrible Kristie Joiner (rumor is that she is inflicting her horror show on a school in Palm Springs now), the new principal has pulled the Jerabek community together into something wonderful. I hear constant stories of how the kind, intelligent, and hard-working current principal has all stakeholders collaborating well for the sake of the kids. I'm so happy to hear of this success.

I got horribly bullied. called names, cursed out and called a variety of slurs on the regular, so much so that I had to change my name. I went into this school a happy kid, thinking the world is great and everyone has something good in them. I had such a horrible experience here that in my 9th grade year I wrote a 7 page narrative essay BRIEFLY summarizing everything that happened. the teacher read it and wanted to talk to me. all of this is disorganized thoughts and stories bout this place. but what I'm trying to say is that you should avoid this place. also. thank you to Mr Labrador for teaching me to be strong and refuse to take crap. thank you to Mrs Hudson for trying your best to help me. And I sense many more exclamation points throughout this review!! Friday's chill on the hill was the highlight of my week. There is an awesome mural on the side of the library building. Breadsticks with ranch or tomato sauce was my lunch of choice, i hope they still have it!! Weekly monkey bars tests and timed half mile runs and capture the flag and high jumps...oh how i miss PE. Learned to make french toast and rice krispie treats and eggs in a basket in home ec!! Middle school was some of the toughest years, but De Portola made it totally worthwhile!!

My son is planning to transfer to Miramar College from another community college with hopes of eventually attending UC San Diego. Unfortunately, he had a difficult experience with administration at his previous school, so we were already feeling pretty discouraged and overwhelmed trying to navigate the transfer process. We attempted to contact the counseling office and called several different numbers without any luck. Finally, we tried another number we found on Google, and to our surprise, someone answered. We explained our situation, and the gentleman we spoke with apologized and explained that the entire SDCCD district network was currently down. Even though he worked at an off-site location and had limited access because of the outage, he still took the time to help us. He asked whether we were military affiliated, and when I explained that we were not and had simply found the number online while searching for Miramar counseling, he immediately said, "No problem, I'm here to help you." From that moment on, he went above and beyond. He patiently walked us through everything my son needed to get started with the transfer process and assured us that once the systems were restored, he would follow up with additional links and information. His optimism, kindness, and genuine excitement for my son's future at Miramar College were truly a breath of fresh air. By the end of the conversation, we both felt relieved, encouraged, and excited again about this next chapter. A few days later, just as promised, we received a detailed email with links for transcript evaluation, counseling appointments, financial aid, and additional resources. We want to give a huge thank you to Mr. Ron at the Miramar Base for his professionalism, compassion, and willingness to help complete strangers during a stressful time. People like him make such a difference. We only wish we had base access so we could thank him in person. We sincerely hope Miramar College administration sees this review and recognizes him for the outstanding support and care he provided.

In any event...HAVE YOU SEEN THIS FOOTBALL FIELD?!? Wha Whaaat?!? So my range of comparison when I was in high school was a large area that may or may not include grass and may or may not include yard markers and may or may not field a team that won any games. So, to level set, this field is like walking on the clouds by comparison. The track that goes around the field is rubberized - READ: easy on your body! Just about every night, there are VAVI activities going on there, so you're free to run the track or whatnot. For those dark winter nights, it's perfect because the area is well lit and there is plenty of parking. For nights where you have the benefit of daylight, there are great tennis courts, a soccer field, and baseball diamond. Not to mention some concrete areas that this writer is unable to identify. Bottom line - if you're looking for somewhere to exercise this is a great place to go. The added benefit of watching the VAVI action while you run, or whatever it is that you'll be doing should not be underscored!
