This review is for the outstanding performance of The Book Club Play I watched this afternoon. Every actor landed their lines. Those lines aren't easy to say. It speaks to their skill in acting. When they broke the fourth wall, it didn't take the audience away from the play, but deeper in it. There's one more performance on April 30th in the evening. This is a great community college! It serves such a diverse community. The teachers are wonderful. They are constantly improving the campus and the courses. This is one of the few community colleges that offers bachelors degrees, specifically for biotech industry. There is an excellent career center. My son graduated a couple years ago and needed some advice on getting a job and the career center was willing to help him out with some information. No problem at all. I feel that this college really is part of our community. They often have events to which the community is invited. I am thankful that we have a place like this near my home. read more

Micheal Dear and the Mira Costa College Money Making Associates purposely chose and marketed one of the worst Banking Institutions for any Human, let alone young college students. Why would BTMX - North Carolina be the best option for young Mira Costa students in California at Mira Costa? This is the worst website I have ever used, I get looped around and around and offered tutorials of how to log in and still can't register. All I want to do is take one evening class and I can't register because the site is so labor intensive. Every other college website I have used was easy easy easy - this is terrible. I gotta add that this school really did an amazing job at preparing me to be the graphic designer, marketing manager, and creative person I am today! This school is far better in regards to tech classes for graphic designers from a CSUSM. The teachers and school are way more involved in what is current and good for this field. You cannot be a graphic designer or teacher and not be involved in the advancement of technology and it was apparent that at Cal State San Marcos, they're just too big and have lost touch. I literally had a graphic design class at Cal State San Marcos where the teacher was having students make a PDF portfolio. I literally made mine from Canva in two hours. The professor was having student that never used InDesign use that to make their interactive pdf. It's great that the community college has it together much far better in line with the times compared to a university makes a lot of since. Actually not it doesn't, both should be working together for the betterment of education! I just wanted to come back and say thank you!!! Thank you for my Free Education!!! This campus is one of the few ATMs (Hyosung) that is compatible with Passbook. [That bank is closing, so I'm disappointed.] The other school is College of the Canyons, which I'd love to visit, but it's a little too far. What grinds my gear is the fact the parking. I should have used card, but I made the blunder of putting in a $10. I think I parked in 3B instead of 3C for visitors/guests. It's $1 for the whole day aka 11:59 PM. Wi-Fi is accessible, and the library is under construction. The noise would drive me nuts if I wanted to study outside, but otherwise, it is calm. It feels like a small campus, kind of like FJC. Palomar is so much prettier though. I really should have explored more, but not a student so didn't want to disturb anyone. A lot of doors were locked though. read more

Big facility for arts in Oceanside, I have heard about their acting programs offer here at the school, so they do host a few film festival ceremonies here, the down side would be a lot of walking around, long lines of people waiting in the heat as they still setting up the theater inside, the place was nice and all, just when they decided to turn off the lights and kicked everyone out, before things started to wrapped up, I understand that everyone needed to go home, but at least give people a heads up, so that they don't have to run out in panic mode like an evacuation, it's very peaceful and quiet at night, minus the darkness read more

Excellent college meeting space. We were here for a community organization meeting and the facility is clean, spacious, and has all that you need to conduct great meetings. The parking situation was great. The outside areas and paths lighted well. The bathrooms were very clean and well stocked. The hallways were also clean and very well lighted. Located in a peaceful setting. The professors here are amazing, great little library and support with classes. I began my yoga training here even! If students want to move on to UC schools it it takes some work, but I know many who went to Mira Costa then UCLA and Berkeley. As an adult returning to learn a language, I felt welcomed by all. I'm disappointed. I have gone here for a few years and always have issues with the counselors. I have never met with my actual one. I have ignored every email I have sent; it is the same thing when I try to find a new one. The best advice I get is to call when I start work to get on a waitlist to be called randomly throughout the day, and if you don't Call as soon as it's open, there isn't room. There isn't an online appointment available, and almost every counselor I have talked to is very discouraging. I am supposed to petition to get my diploma, but I have no information because no counselor will help me. On top of that, the best feedback I get from professors is you could add more detail and cite more of my work or Zoom with me at all times. I cannot, with no exceptions. I hope they can make it more accessible and even if I want to double check on my class selection there isn't any counselors to help me and they all just tell me to call in which I cannot do since I am working. read more

I figured it's been awhile since I have been able to update my review of Mira Costa College. In fact, it's time to renew my financial aid already! I can't believe I've already been here year. I have taken some pretty amazing classes, survived a summer of overtime full-time schedule, and learned what it's like to have to drop with a W after the drop date. *Don't worry, I'm coming after you next semester PSYC 104!* In fact, it would be fantastic if I could find a really good professor that teaches that particular course. It is a major requirement for me, but the first instructor quit working here, and the administration didn't see fit to inform me of the change - even though I'd bought the book for that teacher and course, and it wasn't supposed to begin until September. So far, Spanish has been pretty solid, I am doing very well in my online class for human development, and my DOT class is doing the last two weeks of work before it ends early this semester. I am getting ready to take yet another class with the philosophy professor that taught my last class of the course during the summer, so I am excited about that. When you find a great instructor, it's good. Idea to stick with them, especially if you're taking a course online. You will be familiar with their posting techniques as well as their grading policies. I have learned a lot in the time I've been here at Mira Costa EOPS, and one of the best things that I have learned is that students here will except you regardless of what you look like or where you come from, who you are or the color of your...hair. :) While I do miss my marathon sessions at the math learning center while doing statistics homework over the summer time, I now find myself typing away at papers aimed toward understanding the human development processes. I also have one of the coolest Spanish professors in the universe, and I have learned how to budget my time so that I can allow for volunteerism, which is essential part of what makes me happy. There is all of that and so much more...I'm hooked up with a program that helps Former Foster Youth in reaching their fullest potential. It's been a great year looking back, and I am excited to be moving ahead. I don't care how long it takes! I'm going to leave here with two Associates Degrees, and I'm going to move forward to Cal State. Nobody said it would be easy, especially not going back after 20 years. However, I've got lots of supports in place, and I am confident that they will assist me in not only in meeting my own goals, but in helping me to keep my head in the game - especially when things get hard. I will do this. I will succeed...and I will show my sons that if they work hard with all their hearts, they too can go on to graduate college too. I am confident in myself, and I don't have much longer to go. This isn't as impossible as I thought it might be... and I cannot believe I've changed so much in the way I'm looking at the future for my family. It's why I get up every morning and keep going until the sun is up in the sky. A few nights powering through papers never killed anyone...and sometimes, you've got to struggle to achieve your goals. This semester I've been able to volunteer, be a part of my campus' overall activities, and I've been able to feel like part of a greater institutional atmosphere. It's been a long time since I've done something for myself that is positive and. Will help me later on. I am so happy I came back. It's almost time for midterms. Let's do this thing!!! read more

I love this school. The quality of education and the variety of classes is superior to the other local community colleges. MiraCosta will always have a special place in my heart because it is the school where I first discovered my passion for dance. While, I was waiting to get into nursing school, MiraCosta's dance classes drew my attention. I decided to a dance class "for fun" one semester and this one dance class turned into 5, 6, 7 dance classes which eventually turned into a dance major. I am currently one class away from getting my A.A. in dance at MiraCosta and will come back after nursing school to finish it. Additionally, I took my nursing pre-requisite classes here and I loved the caliber of the teachers and their willingness to help and their passion for teaching. MiraCosta is without a doubt the best school I have ever attended. There is something special about this school that makes it so beautiful that I actually wanted to go to school every morning! When I attended MiraCosta, I lived about 45 minutes away and had other community colleges near me but I chose MiraCosta because of how amazing the faculty and staff are! I didn't expect this community college to have so many resources! I've heard so many good stories about my college compared to Palomar and a few other colleges in the area. So far, I love this place. The only problem I find is parking during the peak ours of 8-4. My classes are usually bottom of the hour so I have no problems parking. But, if your classes are top of the hour, goodluck finding parking! Always use ratemyprofessor.com to check if the prof in the class you're enrolling to have awesome reviews. Just saying lol. Decent school, but what a miserable complete disconnect they have across all lines of any communication with any and all departments. Want to talk to someone? Start with cranium café, which will be followed by probably 3 to 6 links that they will send you, to eventually put your name on a list, to eventually have someone call you. This makes it extremely challenging for veterans students who have certain requirements in regard to their education plan and classes that they must meet in order to stay covered by the government programs. Without incriminating myself I can't even begin to write about how much fun I had here as a child. I grew up just 1 street behind the Eastside of the campus behind the gym and track. I would ride my bike here almost everyday. Running from campus cops was my forte. I only got caught once because I was dragging my little sister around that day. Not only did I learn to drive a car in the open parking lots on the weekends, but I also played junior league basketball here from time to time. As a teen I would lounge in the open grass and do picnic dates. I knew the ins and outs. As an adult I had dozens of my friends come here for JC while I went to Palomar for sports so I'm not expert on the education here, but I've seen quite a few transfers come out of here. The campus is actually quite nice considering it's in Oceanside. The hilltop views can be really beautiful at sunset. The theater department is quite good, while the library is only ok. In the years of gap I wasn't playing here, visiting here I've seen major improvements throughout. Their evening classes are excellent if you just want a class to take and better yourself. It's an amazing place to grow up around, but I fully appreciate it for its real purpose of higher education as well. read more

I didn't even know it was possible for a community college to give such quality education. If I only knew, I would have gone here to get my LVN and that is my only regret. I would wholeheartedly recommend MiraCosta college to anyone who has a goal of higher education even if it's just for transfer. I've been blown away by the professors at this school for their commitment to students and their knowledge. I've enjoyed every class I've taken here so far and have always been motivated to do well. It seems like most students are as well although I can't speak for anyone else but myself. Other students are respectful of each other and of the teachers and professors. I also think that there are a lot of things that are taught in the classes I took that could be applied in my own life. I am definitely happy to be continuing my education here at MiraCosta. About half a year later, when I was suddenly notified in my email, that I was lacking units; I was completely ignored when I contacted her. This was last year. Great campus! Although parking is a "b word" on certain times of the day, usually early mornings from 8-930am. Friday's are the easiest day to find parking. The library includes tutors, rooms for studying, textbooks on reserve, a writing center, a math lab, tons of books and reference materials, computers and a friendly, helpful staff. It's a two story building with lobby areas for when you need a break to no in between classes. Campus cafeteria is probably one of the busiest places at miracosta. The food is average but on certain days they serve "specials of the day" items for breakfast/lunch/dinner. Tons of seating indoor and outdoors. Just below the cafeteria I the bookstore where students can buy or rent course materials. Also, it's a place where you can find school supplies too. Admissions, Counseling and The Admissions office are all close to each other which convenient for students. Miracosta has the most helpful staff of people who really care in supporting all of your education goals. They try there best to guide you in the right direction and give advice when needed. There are plenty of resources students can use to their advantage everyday. If you are new in town and scoping out the community college scene in North County, I highly recommend Mira Costa. read more

I came here for the convenience of distance and try some photography classes. How lucky I am to come across some of the best Professors in the Photo and Art department. They really care about their students and have a passion/love for what they teach. I've been inspired to pursue Black and white film photo, digital and even teach. MiraCosta Dance Program is jewel among the sand. Hidden in two buildings on campus, the Dance Program offers small intensive classes with personal instruction from top Dance instructors. The classes are small and so personal attention is shown to each dance student. The student are learning great choreography and able to showcase their talents in the student showcase dance concert at the end of each semester. I would really recommend taking a dance class from MiraCosta College. read more

MiraCosta is such a beautiful campus, outshining Palomar by a long shot. I attended right after high school for about a year and a half before taking a break and just recently re-enrolling to finish my AA. The professors are across the board wonderful; I haven't yet had a bad experience with a single one. My favorites would have to be Pat Connolly for criminal justice/ administration of justice, Dara Perales for English and Bradley Byrom for history. If you get in with any of these professors you're sure to have a great semester. The employees in counseling and other admin offices are helpful and friendly. The employees in the bookstore are a hit or miss, but mostly pleasant. The cafeteria, while almost always busy between classes, functions well and stays well-stocked. As I mentioned before, the campus is maintained well and isn't an eyesore to hang around on in between classes. There are lots of student activities during the week, a decent amount of parking and a great library. If you're looking for a local community college, I highly recommend MiraCosta. read more

The theater at MiraCosta College is an architectural feat, beautiful and modern; spacious yet intimate: You really feel submerged in the performance no matter if you are seated in the 3rd center row from the stage or the very last row on the left-hand side. Sound travels phenomenally well and no matter your angle, you have a crisp view of the action! From the box office to your seat, the experience is an enjoyable one even before the play or musical has begun. The price of a ticket is quite reasonable (even more so if you are a student or senior, or attend the opening night's performance) The lobby is welcoming and cozy! Ushers are friendly and extremely helpful if you need assistance finding your chair or just want a nice chat before the performance starts or during intermission. The sets constructed are always awe-inspiring! Student crafted, goodness! Costume design is mind-blowingly gorgeous and so carefully detailed! Performers are simply top-notch! Attending a play/musical at the MiraCosta theater is supporting this college, the ever-talented actors (including current students and alumni), and the (local) performing arts themselves. read more

I graduated from UC Davis, and although I loved my experience there, I took a couple of classes at Miracosta and I saw a HUGE difference. I WILL SAY that the reason that I didn't give Miracosta all five stars is because I think certain people at the main office are a little retarded because they lost some of my paperwork SEVERAL TIMES and it made me so angry that that had to happen even once. However, if you stay on top of the paperwork and make sure to follow up and get on THEIR asses to make sure everything is all in place, then things should go relatively smoothly. Going to Miracosta, I saw how they treated their students so much better than they did at UC Davis. They almost literally HOLD YOUR HAND and help you through everything because they really WANT all their students to graduate and to go on and do bigger and better things. Their career program is SO MUCH better than Davis's. They even have this program where they PROVIDE their students with a free set of interview clothes (TO KEEP) because they want their students to succeed THAT MUCH. I was so surprised. Not only that, their cafeteria food, for the most part, is AMAZING. They always have a different menu and they have had some pretty good dishes! Their cafeteria food was WAY better than any of the cafeteria food I EVER had at UC Davis. Plus, who can complain at $26 a unit and a $30 parking permit for a semester (when it was over $100 for a parking permit at Davis for a quarter). I also read that Miracosta college is one of the top 50 community colleges in the U.S. that is growing. They really do have a good program, and I enjoyed the couple of classes I took there. read more

I've been to a few different community colleges over the years & none have been as frustrating as this place. I have had to go into the Admissions office more times then I'd like to admit & every time I have been there the employees were not friendly or helpful. I was trying to add a class & the teacher gave me the wrong add code. I went into the office several times & was even added to the wrong class at one point. I was told to pay for that class & then transfer over to the right one. I visited the office several times trying to correct the problem but nothing every was fixed. A few classmates complained about the same awful service. The campus is beautiful & every teacher has been great but the other staff seems to be bothered when students need help. read more

Many of them were first-generation students who struggled in college and understand the financial struggles that many of the students are going through. I cannot say enough good things about this school! This is the fourth community college in California that I have attended. The first three being: 1) Cerro Coso 2) San Diego Mesa 3) Miramar I had major problems at all three previous schools, although I did complete a degree at Mesa in Animal Health Technology and that department was fantastic. Back to MiraCosta! I decided to go back to school for a BFA and needed to get some lower division courses out of the way on the cheap. I simply enrolled at the closest school to home and I still can't believe my luck! This has got to be the best community college in the state! The art department is top notch! I am transferring now, and feel beyond prepared for my upcoming coursework. I have to shout out to all the fantastic teachers that I had the pleasure of learning from: Music: Eric Foster, Miss Chang, and Steve Torok Art History: MY ALL TIME FAVORITE TEACHER EVER IN MY LIFE, Julian Contreras Art: Jackie Lo, Martin Facey, Adam Belt, Siobhan Arnold, Tony Richards, and Leslie Nemour Spanish: Razia Rajah and Donna Marques These teachers literally changed the course of my life. I have spent a lot of time on community college campuses -- as student, community member, guest speaker, and even professor. I have always loved the warm feeling of connectedness I get from being on a community college campus, with young and old mingling on the same campus to learn, refresh skills, or re-train. For students looking to transfer, the Transfer Center has top-notch counselors and workshops. MCC also has fun public events, like the "Endless Summer" outdoor movie screening I went to in September (awesome! the real Gidget attended and spoke!) and Astronomy nights in the fall (where you can view the stars through high-powered telescopes and talk to the Astronomy Department Chair about them). read more

Between the teachers and the staff, I have nothing but good things to say about Mira Costa College. It is a great community college and they will go out of their way to help you any way possible and the resources available to the students are truly extraordinary. My professors have been nothing short of wonderful- they really do a great job in hiring teachers; every single one I've had has been great. (Professor McField was an inspiration and constantly strives to make sure students know their potential. This is refreshing.) The campus is beautifully maintained; the library is the perfect place to study, and they even keep books on "reserve" on the 2nd floor that you can utilize anytime throughout the semester. During an algebra class that I took, I spent several hours in the tutoring center where you go in, sit down at a table, and if you have a question you raise your hand and a math genius (students hired who work there) will be there immediately to help answer your questions and help explain the problem to you. This was absolutely wonderful, as math can be difficult for me. Needless to say, I aced my math class!! There are also workshops where you can go to get help editing papers you have written. As a student who needs financial assistance, the resources on that end are impeccable as well. They pay for my classes and I just have to buy the books. This University can't be beat. They really go above and beyond for their students. read more

If you want a good community college to go to, MiraCosta is a great choice. I decided to take extra classes here to fulfill requirements for grad school that I did not do while at Cal. The professors I have had so far have been amazing and very accommodating. They are helpful and do their best to help you succeed when you need help, which is something I didn't get from my professors at Cal. Also, if you're a science major, they offer a lot more classes than other community colleges I looked into nearby as well as offer science classes over the summer. From the Associated Student Government, MiraCosta Ambassadors, writing for the Charriot (on campus newspaper) Clubs, and College Hours there is always something to do. The Classes are great, and the instructors take the time to make sure you understand. They explain things so get it, not so you confuse yourself. I have to admit the best communication classes I have ever taken are here at MiraCosta. I've been a part of so many organizations and have spoken at so many events, but never would I have known how to perfect myself in my practice if it wasn't for Mike S, my comm 101 teacher! He truly showed us how to communicate effectively, and use our time wisely! If it wasn't for that class, I probably would still be an Agriculture Business major, I don't do well with numbers. I'm glad I finally found my calling. Out of all the wonderful departments, the Theater Department is my favorite. There I learned to express myself, I learned to be myself, and that being me is the greatest thing anyone can do. I participated in a play there, and took Act 1, with Tracy Williams, and it changed my life. Incredible department to work with. I've been at mira costa for almost 3 years and I am SOOO comfortavle here. it is a beautiful campus that is almost alwaysss clean. the staff is very welcoming and helpful with the exception of some of the ladies in the front enrollment office haha. the counsellors are always on point and have your best interest at hand. the teachers I have had are Legit hit or miss. it is VERY important to look up your teachers on rate my professor before you enroll so you don't screw yourself!!! the only negative part of this campus in particular is the parking. like come onnn mira costa there is practically more teacher parking than students!!!!!!! that's ridiculous. so lesson learned after being here for years, GET TO CLASS EARLY or you will be looking for a spot for 30 minutes! read more
