First of all the…read moretown of Winthrop is a super quaint town preserving the history of the first settlers in the area. Everything-the store fronts, stores is western themed. Anyway the Shafer Museum is a historically preserved town established by one of the area's pioneer families. There were buildings which showcased the lives of the families back then. Our grandsons enjoyed the scavenger hunt a lot- the prize was a gum-ball from an old fashioned gum ball machine which was pretty cool in itself. Take your time explore the different buildings-we took about little over a hour and a half. This is a must stop place when visiting Winthrop. No admission fee but please donate generously because the maintenance and administration is done by volunteers

My friend invited me to join her for the first annual Winthrop Quilt Roundup, and I'm so glad I…read moremade the drive over there! It was a sunny Saturday and the town was lined with quilts on almost every building. There was also a special display of antique quilts at the nearby Shafer Museum, and a passport book of 30 local businesses. By visiting all 30 businesses, and getting a stamp at each one, you got entered into a drawing held later in the day at a nearby winery. The festival gave me Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show vibes, and I could easily see this becoming a destination quilt-lovers event much like that iconic show is. I could see the volunteers in Winthrop had gone above and beyond to make it a great experience. And they did a great job - especially for it being the show's first year. I can only see it getting better as more PNW quilters make the trek and even more quilts are added.
