As soon as I saw her, I knew that this place was the real deal, and that her knowledge in mystical specialities would be as in depth as it gets. The lady's premises was filled with as many different types of incense sticks and cones that you could think of; I've never come across so many varieties anywhere else. Dragon's Blood was the one that stood out specifically, and I had to buy it to sample the smell. The shop is also full of crystals and little models, reflecting a gothic beauty perfect for customers who have a love for dark magic. Feel free to ask the store owner what each stone does, and the meaning behind each model, she's happy to tell you. I bought a little tortoise model that holds four incense sticks and one incense cone in the middle. It's such a great unique, multi-useful gift for someone, and only costs £4. Even if you don't really burn incense, the little tortoise is a great piece of handcrafted art to sit on your shelf. The shop owner also runs Earlswood Lake Therapies around the corner, so you can always buy some spiritual stones and then receive a massage later on!

The jewellery sets come as a whole set (including posh necklace, earrings, and bangles) or you can just purchase the one off items. They've had a nice refurb since my last visit, and the place looks a lot nicer. Always haggle a little in here, as you can usually get a discount. A great shop, and good customer service considering that they have a lot of competition on this busy shopping road. If you do plan on spending some time here, then best park round the corner by the S N D Supermarket, as the road and side roads are too busy.

This is mainly second hand jewellery, but that's the beauty of this shop because there are items appearing in the window that you're not going to find in other jewellers shops. Of course it also means that you can only choose from whatever they happen to have in that week, but nine times out of ten I'll find something I like - although whether I can afford it or not is another matter. Uncle's obviously puts the most interesting items in the window and you can usually expect to see necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings in the window. All are hallmarked gold and prices are very reasonable in my opinion with hollow hoop earrings starting at around £15, with solid hoops costing around the £60 mark. Everything is displayed beautifully in the window and it always makes me want to go inside and have a look at what Uncle's has in the glass cabinets inside. To be honest it's always a bit of a disappointment inside as the really gorgeous stuff is usually in the window for everyone to see! Inside they'll have a few bangles, stud earrings, the plainer necklaces and things like that. All of it is cheaply priced because to be honest it's not the best quality and the designs are plainer than those you'll see in the window. Uncle's also offers a pawnbroking service, which is now he gets his gold in the first place. I've never used this service but have seen money changing hands when I've been inside browsing. It looks a simple enough process, I think you just have to take your gold in and fill a form in to get your money. You then have a few months to pay the loan back with interest added.

One of about a dozen used and new purveyors of fashioned metal, Robert's stands out from the crowd for its mostley collection of used jewelry. Going to Robert's is like going to an auction: some of the stuff is worthless Argos jewellry, and some of it is a genuine antique find. My (now) husband and I went to Robert's when searching for my engagement ring. I'd had a "holding ring" for awhile, until we could find something we realy liked. All we had as criteria were the following: -not a rock -- I'm too clumsy, and would end up putting my eye out with a big gem -something with a patina, WWII or older was our goal So with that in mind, we hit every jewellry store in Tamworth and Lichfield, then headed into Brum. We found some absolutely amazing rings, but none of them quite fit the bill. We'd had a mosey around Robert's in the past, just to laugh at some of the more interesting pieces, but headed in there as we knew they had some genuine antiques. And lo and behold, we found the ring: in 1947, some fine English jeweller decided to surround an ovular sapphire with eight teardrop diamonds, and worked gold "drops" in between. It whispered "classy" and dripped "antique". One of my favourite bits about it is, when viewed from the side, it shows tiny gold curlicues. Heaven. It was too large for my finger, so Robert's agreed to have it fitted for me. We'd come in on a Saturday, and it was ready to pick up on a Monday. The sales ladies at Robert's are a bit salesy. They like showing jewellry, but love to "help you find a bargain", so be prepared to haggle a bit. The head jeweller there has studied his craft, and worked in the business for over 20 years, and knows what he's talking about. If he knows you're there to buy a piece that lasts for posterity, and you've taken a liking to a more common piece, he'll guide you to a piece with more patina and a similar price tag. Worth it's weight in baubles, that kind of advice.

As a complete jewellery novice, not knowing my bracelets from my bangles (or are they the same thing?), whenever I do buy some for my girlfriend, I always enlist the help of shop assistants, and I've never found staff more willing to help, and who did it without making me feel like an idiot! Their prices are good, admittedly I'm not the best barometer of jewellery costs, but they seemed extremely reasonable to me in comparison to my various dealings with chains like H. Samuel. Any need for good precious metal jewellery or diamond based products and I'll always go here to get a first opinion on price and expected quality for said prices. With a workshop in the back most orders are turned around failry quickly when it comes to stone work settings, pendants, cleaning etc... For specialist requirements (diamond cutting technology, platinum lazering etc...) the jewellery will be sent off but still ready for pick up within 2-3 working days. Both the jeweller himself and his shop assistant are always happy to have a natter advising around both your requirements, their material knowledge and the outcomes that others in similar situations have had. They are happy to converse face to face by phone or email to make sure it is as easy as possible for you to get your requirements to them clearly. If it is not a custom piece the stock jewellery they have is very reasonably priced and all hand made. Price wise they are very similar to other jewellers in the area (a few pound cheaper but nothing to break the bank) but it is all about the personnal, none invasive service here, you can talk for half an hour and walk out without any pressure to try and force the sale. I can also vouch for the quality of the jewellery here as items I have bought are still going strong with minimal surface scratches to the metal work (expected). A personal favourite and deserving of the 5 stars!
