This place does give away school supplies toys, furniture, and food to needy families. what you need to know is...what NOT to give them! 1. All books are sent to a recycling yard YES! Even brand new books that could be enjoyed by children, or given to a literacy campaign! While I was there on a slow day they filled over 15 of the 50 gallon dumpsters with beautiful books hardcover, paperback...they don't even LOOK at them! Or consider giving them to anyone. 2. ALL metal .. cell phones, computers, lamps, silverware, pots, pans, lighting, anything brass like a bedframe or chandelier, christmas lights prelit trees, treestands, appliances like hairdryers, curling irons, stereo equipment, speakers.....toasters, toaster ovens, microwaves you name it. ..refrigerators, ovens...Are sold to a scrap metal yard! YES! It is true. WORKING OR NOT! 3. All wood, wicker baskets, tupperware, plastic containers, CD's MOVIES, DVD's, Video Games, and dishes that are not a complete set READY!!!...are THROWN AWAY. Jewelry boxes that are glass, candle holders, christmas ornaments, all misc. items made of glass...pyrex, mixing bowls. All misc items made of plastic are THROWN AWAY! The kicker is they ONLY RECYCLE CARDBOARD! The amount of trash thrown out by this place is unheard of. THEY DON"T RECYCLE GLASS THEY DON"T RECYCLE PLASTIC THEY RECYCLE ENOUGH BOOKS IN ONE MONTH TO FILL A USED BOOK STORE. While children all over the metroplex and all over the world have NO books! The only books they keep are bibles and that is only if someone knows that; or cares enough to walk inside the building with it , and put it on the shelf...... The organization does do a lot of good. If you care enough to save your old stuff thinking someone else can use it...think again before you go Mission Arlington. Donate your old books to a local womens shelter and give your old movies away to a small local charity who .. if nothing else might recycle them instead of tossing piles of them into the land fill! That old refrigetator or appliance will be melted at the scrapmetal yard, someone would love to have it and use it. Miss Tillie will melt it down to buy gas for her trucks to go pick up more stuff she will melt and throw away. GO VOLUNTEER YOU WILL BE FRUSTRATED TOO! read more

I am a bit shocked by some of the reviews I've just read here today. Especially one that was written by a volunteer who is new to Mission Arlington. I would like to kindly suggest to you that when you volunteer or take on any challenge to help others, that you give of yourself with an open mind and heart having the willingness to learn and the effort to discover reasons why things seemed to appear as you have described because after doing so you may have realised that "Miss Barbara" is one of the hardest working and most devoted people that I and thousands of others have had the Blessed Pleasure of meeting. Her work is tough and her days are long but she is always there taking care of what needs to be done and this world could use a lot more of great leaders that are like her. In the future, you may find fewer missed opportunities and recognize more of the people who are a Blessing to so many if you slowed your haste to form such harsh opinions and practiced slowing it even more before speaking out with harmful intent. This is truly a terrible place to work. The owner and her son are bullies and treat employees terribly. They may do a lot for the community and I can appreciate that, but then to turn around and criticize, belittle, and make derogatory remarks to employees behind closed doors is too much for me. I will never refer another person here for help or to volunteer. They treat volunteers even worse than actual employees. I understand a lot of people work there due to court ordered community service, but people should still be treated with respect and like human beings. To hold someone's' court documents, pay, or any other information they have, hostage so you can force them to work in dangerous conditions is unacceptable. To speak to people like they are "less than" you and retaliate if they speak up for themselves is unacceptable. The owner may be sweet in person, but it is an act that is quickly dropped the second you disobey her or question her immoral behavior. Practice what you preach. read more

I think it's some sort of mythology-based mind control cult with a 'mission' to disperse trash upon the land and turn quiet neighborhoods into ghettos. If they become your neighbor you should expect LOTS of screaming, property damage and trash everywhere. They bring in van loads of troubled riff raff, as well as attracting the local, bribing them with junk food and junk food for the soul (i.e., bible stories). There is NO adult supervision of the kids and it's as exciting as a schoolyard fight with no teacher around. There is ZERO consideration or respect for anyone unfortunate enough to live near them. Expect your concerns to be met with smugness and indifference. A halfway house for paroled violent junkies would make a better neighbor. If you have money or time to donate, a better choice would be Goodwill. read more

I donated household items ans such to mission arlington today and was there long enought to see the items seperated into bins. I also saw them take my donated items and make statement that they were to go to the trash. These were nice items and I thought this was a Christian place. I felt greatly disapointed seeing this. I will never again donate money or gift donations to mission arlington again. I will donate elsewhere and tell everyone I know about this organization. It seems like real scam more than anything else. I left feeling that I waisted my time come in gas even as I left. *****Thank you Kevin and all others who have posted-people need to be made aware of this. Where do I start? Mission Arlington claims to be run by Christians, but don't be fooled. The people employed by this sham of an organization are some of the most vile, twisted, mean-spirited creatures to ever creep across the face of Planet Earth. Whatever you do, do NOT even think about volunteering your time to these wretches. The supervisors do everything in their power to insult and belittle those who volunteer their time to the organization, and generally make the experience unbearably miserable. Mission Arlington should be closed down. There are many many employees who are full of hate - making faces-rolling of the eyes- self righteous-pharisees. A manager needs to fire and rehire real Chrisitians. They emotionally abuse ande drain you. Beware and be prepared- you dont know who youll get to help you that might abuse you.
