We were so thankful to have found FurrWoods Kennels! We recently adopted a dog from Whatcom Humane…read moreSociety. Oscar is partially blind and very reactive, as he was never socialized as a puppy. It was critical to find a kennel that was a good fit for him. We had been using another boarding facility for the past ten years and had been pretty happy with them for most of that time. Due to a detour, I happened to drive by FurrWoods and saw their sign. So, we scheduled a time to take a tour. Oscar was reactive to the owner and staff and was barking and lunging at them. They knew exactly how to greet him and put him at ease. Within minutes, he was comfortable and leaning in for ear scratches. We took Oscar out to the play yards and put him in one by himself. He immediately went to the fence and happily greeted the other pups in the adjacent yard. The play yards here are repurposed astroturf from a football field, and the surface is immaculate. The previous boarding facility has gravel yards and our previous dog would sometimes eat rocks there or be dirty from digging. There are 3 or 4 different yards so they can group dogs by size or demeanor or age to ensure everyone has a positive playtime. The kennels are also very clean! There are only 28 kennels so it is much more peaceful than at a larger facility. They provide trampoline beds and even have slow feeders if you need them, which Oscar does. They have an online reservation system which helps me keep track of my bookings. You can also sign your dog up for an activity such as individual fetch time or a walk in the woods. We have boarded Oscar at FurrWoods several times over the past few months - sometimes just overnight and for as long as two weeks. He LOVES it there!! When we arrive, he pulls me to the door and wants to go straight out to play! This speaks volumes, as Oscar normally has separation anxiety!! When I pick him up, he is clean, happy, and exhausted. Thank you thank you thank you to Rebecca and her staff for welcoming Oscar into your kennel and your hearts!!

I have had extremely pleasant experiences with Mission Country Kennels, each time I have used their…read moreservices. They are, in my opinion, almost fanatically dedicated to dogs. Their facility is LOVELY - charming - and well maintained; truly, you have to see this place to believe it! All forest and trees, lots of room for the dogs to play and dig and run. And my impression is that they truly care for, and adore, all the dogs that come to them. Real 'dog people', to be sure. Indeed, so concerned are they about the dogs' well-being, that they are, in fact, somewhat strict! They have very specific requirements about 'times for pick up and drop off', to ensure the dogs are not unduly disturbed with a constant, random stream of clients coming at all hours. (Each time a vehicle arrives at the facility, it excites the dogs, who are always waiting for their owner's return - follow?) So, while slightly restrictive, this shows just how much they care about the dogs, not only physically, but emotionally also. Very kind people. I would unquestioningly board my pet here again, and would unhesitatingly recommend Mission Country Kennels to everyone in the Lower Mainland. Frankly if there is a better boarding Kennel in town, I'd like to see that!

As was said, they are quite strict in insuring dogs being boarded are healthy and compatible with the other boarding dogs. Their facility is clean and well thought out to allow dogs with similar temperents to play together. I'm happy that they do care enough to carefully screen potential boarders. My lab is a very friendly and non-confrontational dog that could easily be damaged by aggressive behavior. The last things I want is to find him torn up or sick from preventable diseases. I have full confidence that the entire staff do really care for the well being of their boarders and would highly recommend their kennel to anyone that truly cares for their pets. In a nutshell their "human" customer service skills are terrible. That said, their dog skills may…read morebe excellent - but at the end of the day a human is forking over the $$, so I think we humans count in some minuscule way. After doing a month of research on dog boarding facilities, I settled upon TNT in Abbotsford. That's an hour driving time with traffic but I want the best for my new puppy. The first phone inquiry I made to TNT was polite but harried. Okay, no problem they're busy, I understand. Btw, I spent $320 including taxes for 7 days of boarding plus extra services which included 2 walks a day etc. Not cheap. But that's okay I want the best for my pup. Two days after my puppy was boarded I made a call to check on my puppy to see how she's adapting. The lady on the other end said great but she seemed slightly irritated I was taking up her time and then she rushed me off the phone. Okay..... The second and last time I called was at 10am, (which is their office time), the day before pick up. I asked how my puppy was getting on and wanted to make arrangements for pick up. She was rude and rushed me off the phone once again with a promise to call me back but didn't call back until I called again at 6pm - now I was irritated. I mean, I was calling during office hours which are stated on their website between 8:00am-11am. I received a call at 6pm from someone else to whom I explained my frustration about this rude employee. She said they're busy and that the other employee at the kennel thought I was taking up too much of her time over the phone. What? A less than five minute phone call asking for an update? That's absurd. If that's what 300 bucks gets you... Upon arrival for pick up she told me my puppy received a little extra attention in the office because, well, she's a puppy. I'm grateful for their care of my pooch. If my dog had a great time there, then excellent but I wasn't aware of any of her activities other than the two 10 minute walks/day and the office time upon the arrival for pick up. Was she playing with the other dogs, did she get other socialization time? I don't know because they wouldn't tell me of her activities. Hopefully, she wasn't in a cage for 8 hours a day. I will never know. And that's what I'm not impressed with. The lack of communication skills - with humans - and the way my 2 phone calls were handled. Like I said on my way out, socialization of dogs is important but the socialization of humans is essential. Will not be back.

I opted for the meadow walks which are an additional charge. The location is very scenic and they seemed anxious to make sure Rip had a good stay. He had his dog bed from home, his blanket and a bunch of toys....and they fed him his usual food (which I supplied). I'd feel confident taking him back to TNT again. Nice to have a boarding kennel I can feel good about.
