Ok, well... my partner and I ventured to Mister Sunshine's after a recommendation from the lovely Carla E. We were informed that the owner is the biggest champion, and well... she was totally right! Not only was the service amazing, the owner lived up to the Café's name and was like a ray sunshine in my day. We arrived mid-morning and were very excited to hear they do all day brekkie. This is such a win for me! We were greeted by Mister Sunshine himself who seated us and was so unbelievably friendly, telling us to get comfy and he will make sure everything is amazing! I ordered the Bacon and Egg Sandwich with added haloumi and spinach on the side. We did have to wait a bit, but I forgave them as it was super busy and they were pumping in the kitchen! Also, they were too nice for me to get hangry. When my sandwich arrived it was perfectly cooked and quite generous in it's size. Bacon was crispy and there was a really tasty home made chilli jam in it. So good! Coffee was also really well made and served in the most cool vintage cup. Loved it! The best part about my experience at Mister Sunshine's was when I said thank you and goodbye. Mr Sunshine asked how everything was, and we told him that it was awesome. Whoever decides what businesses get to open in George St at Thebarton obviously has great taste. This street, which was already home to The Wheatsheaf hotel and the Deli, now has Mr Sunshine's - a great café with amazing coffee and breakfasts, and a good looking lunch menu. Apparently it has been open since 2013, with a refurbishment in June 2014 but to me this place is brand new, so it's pretty exciting. I was waiting for a meeting, so when the member of staff asked me if I wanted a coffee, we were off to a great start. It's always good when someone comes up and looks after you and makes sure you're ok. The coffee was served in a funky second hand looking mug and saucer which perfectly matched the paintings and other nick knacks on the wall. This place has been really well designed. Many of the paintings and accessories wouldn't look out of place on the set of Twin Peaks or a Wes Anderson film set. I would really like to know who designed the interior of this café and get them to design my kitchen. Something else to note is that this café doesn't feel cluttered at all. It's a very smart use of the space. After our meeting I had a bacon and egg sandwich with chilli jam and rocket and a second coffee. It was top notch grub which started my day on a good note. Stopped by to get a coffee while my car is getting serviced next door at Holden. As soon as I walked through the outside seating area I instantly enjoyed the relaxed & comfy feeling. With blankets for your legs available for cold days & walking inside to tables & chairs that reminded me of my grandmas. Having a peek at the menu & a slice of espresso brownie just put out it was a tough decision. The bacon & egg sandwich was the winner & I was not disappointed. I am not a condiments lover but that tomato chilli jam brought it all together. Unfortunately not having lactose free milk was disappointing. Everyone had mad order envy of everyone else's selections. I'm gonna put it out there... best breakky I've tried in Adelaide so far. Yep, I said it. When you cruise into George Street, Thebarton the bold signage of Sunshine's is hard to miss. The front courtyard is full of mixed size tables shaded by the huge gum tree. The front seating area alone is true to the sunshiny name. Walk through the door though, and it's the cheery staff's demeanour that bring the rays. The eclectic bunch always provide outstanding service with a smile. Then we have the food. Gorgeous, fresh, well balanced, quality and scrumptious are all great adjectives to describe the menu. I can only speak of the breakky menu, but I've tried a lot of it and so far have not found a dud (I don't expect to). My faves are the bacon and egg sandwich, the smashed avo (seasonal) and the minced mushrooms. The coffee is solid and on top of all this the prices are great, and whilst there's sometimes a short wait on the weekend, it's rarely too long. If you haven't tried Sunshine's I ask you, why not? Loved this little hideaway in thebarton. Very busy the Friday morning I went.. Service was friendly but took awhile to get to order. Had to order another coffee! I had scrambled eggs, bacon & mushroom. Don't get me wrong, I love my eggs a tad under, but they were a wee too much. The mushroom were incredible, I am coming back for those babies! Whats NEW in West Thebarton!? Well this place is! :) So I don't really know the history behind Mister Sunshines.. but what I can tell you is that this place is back, and the best its ever been.. Mister Sunshine's is a mix between your grandparents house and a mexican garden.. I really found it very cool.. The location isn't ideal, as Holden take up all the car spots, but if your willing to walk a bit you can find a carpark in one of the small (i mean tiny) side streets. Pricing wise.. Mister sunshine's owners have done really well as you really can't go wrong with a maximum meal price of $12.. Now as many of you would know I am a big fan of burgers.. and when you see a burger like this one on the menu you have to try it. The "Beef & Chorizo burger with beetroot".. What a mix, but it worked... the worst part was that it was over so quickly.. and I found the lack of sides or side options disappointing. For all those Coffee lovers out there.. you'll be happy with the coffee choice.. not 100% sure the branding, but it is really smooth.. Unfortunately there large really isn't large, more of a small mug. The Menu is quirky, but well thought out.. There is definitely some other meals I will try on my next visit.. So writing a review based on one visit may be risky but I'm sure I'll update this as I sample the range of selections on offer! It gets quite busy here during the week for lunch so allow a bit of time to find a table and wait a couple of minutes. Rest assured it is worth the wait, when our food came out - it felt like a bit of warmth and love was delivered on our plate. I had the soup of the day and on a rather cold and blustery day it felt like a little ray of sunlight in every spoonful. Only had coffee on a work meeting visit here but the food looks really good, I'm told it is too by a colleague. Saw some burgers heading out and I had to hold myself back from sampling items. Table service was nice, not sure if they do that all the time but we had it and coffees came out quickly and water was replaced when the bottle was empty. This place is so great, you and your oversized, unmaintained, possibly-has-livestock-living-in-there beard is so welcomed. Your slicked back short back and sides with Ray Bans is so welcomed. Its right up the road from fellow welcoming places such as The Wheatsheaf International Hotel (crazy about RollerDerby and lovers of great music), and The Deli (SUCH. GREAT. ATMOSPHERE!) on semi residential semi industrial George Street in Thebarton. Weekend days are your best pick to catch up with a small group and admire the beautiful beards around you. I mean, the beautiful people around you. Not sp great for huge groups without being there upon opening hours, but totally great for small groups. A great opportunity to get seated on a table with people you've never met before - and possibly make a new friend or two! I remember my coffee being spectacular - something I know I say a lot - but only when its absolutely right. And your burger comes out with that excellent 'stabbed by the knife' feeling - and appearance. Very tasty food indeed! Ok. This place is amazing. Mr Sunshine who may have presumably greeted us. Is just a ray of sunshine. Food is locally sourced. Tastes amazing. I had a steak sammich. Best I've ever eaten. The melted cheese. The onion. The steak. It was heavy. But the best sammich to ever have passed my lips. My mate had a haloumi burger and was equally impressed. If you're just driving by you won't see much, apart from the excessively large 'Mister Sunshine's' painted on the front wall. Tucked into Thebarton's business end you would think it just serves lunches to local employees but you'd be wrong. Well, they probably do but my biggest surprise was the people that were there. The place has a great feel; a nice vibe, a homely warmth but also hipster and laid back so you'd expect a crowd that kind of fits that mould. What I saw was well dressed business people, singles, young couples, old couples, a family, all ages and all looks, and it made me feel good. The large gum at the front provides shade over a number of tables and doubles the cafe space. Once inside you're met with a shabby blend of vintage and other collections that on their own wouldn't work but with everything else Mister Sunshine's offers it feels just right. The service was amazing. Greeted with a big smile by a lovely warm lady we were shown to a table and despite being busy served our coffee (in old vintage cups) very quickly. The coffee was very nice, solid flavours, a bit of an all rounder. Despite being somewhat rushed I indulged in a poached eggs on minced mushrooms and wilted spinach rye sourdough delight which I couldn't fault. It was pretty, fresh, so tasty and somewhat delicately seasoned but they provide salt and pepper shakers on all tables for those seeking extra. A quick scan of the other menu treats gave plenty of scope for future visits and everyone else's plates looked great too (yes, I do look at other people's food). It all sounded delicious. Mister Sunshine's works. It works because they have great food and coffee, because they've created a friendly warm space where people clearly love to meet, because they smile and chat and exude warmth and friendliness, and because nothing is too hard and they seem the type of people who focus on solutions, not problems. Staff were friendly and very welcoming on arriving. The place was packed inside and outside, always a good sign. We sat outside with a dog, the waitress was quick to wash the dog bowl out and fill with water. The menu was pretty good and the food and drinks yum, will def go again. While I was full my partner got a really great chicken burger with the most amazing pickled condiments, and they were flexible enough to swap out the wholemeal bun. As always fantastic atmosphere outside, was pretty busy and was happy to see a few four legged friends about the place as we had our lunch. I was at the Mile End Homemaker Centre and not being a local, I Googled "cafes near Mile End". A fabulous Yelp list came up with Mister Sunshine's at the top and with the incredible reviews, we had to give it a go! My Dad had the haloumi burger which looked incredible and he loved it. I had the bacon and egg sandwich, which was so nice with the tomato relish and rocket. Yum!!! The menu was amazing - it was very hard to choose (and all day breakfast!). This is a totally relaxed place with super friendly staff. No fancy plates or cutlery, just damn good food that's reasonably priced. If I lived locally I would be going here very regularly and will bring my dog next time. Very dog friendly. Just friendly all round. Not a hint of snobbishness - all kinds of people were there. read more
