The location is wonderful, an urban space right along side the lakefront. I should note, it's tucked inside the Summerfest grounds (Mid Gate of Henry Maier Festival Park) so there are specific "open hours" you're able to come. In general it looks like 10am-7pm, but that can vary based on all of the other happenings that go on at these grounds On a regular day, like when we went, the parking is totally free which is amazing. You'll find a designated lot near Mid Gate, just look for the signs. The play opportunities here are immense! So many structures to climb, play, and interactive with. The park features enhanced playground equipment on that soft/squishy playground surface (which we love), with interactive musical elements and wheelchair-accessible ramps, along with shaded seating. It seems there are almost levels by color/section, all appropriate for various ages. Spaces for older kids, with higher slides and climbing, and other areas that are good for the younger kiddos like my 18mo old, who had a hayday! We brought a packed lunch to refuel the kiddos after they burned all their energy out playing, so love that this park also provides plenty of covered spaces, picnic tables, and benches. Oh anddd they have individual, air-conditioned sensory rooms that offer a quiet retreat for children who may be overstimulated -- how crazy great is that? These are attached to the bathrooms on-site. Everything was very clean and well kept I might add. All in all the park it a wonderful destination for families seeking an inclusive and welcoming outdoor experience. We will be back!!

The…read morebaseball diamonds look recently updated, there is a large play area of kids, a pool, and a pond for fishing (stocked with fish!). There is frequently a food truck or two parked on the perimeter. I've visited a couple times and there are a lot of people during nice weather. There is definite need for available restrooms - there are a couple bathrooms, they were just locked (even though the signs said they were open). Luckily, we found 1 port-a-potty at the far edge of a baseball diamond. The pond also needs some love - there is quite a bit of smelly algae, and I imagine the dissolved oxygen levels are low due to high water temperatures, especially during the summer. Not sure how well the fish are doing, and it is HEAVILY fished. However, it was nice to see so many families enjoying the pond and I love seeing parents teach their kids how to fish. As an ecologist, it is sad to see Honey Creek is still confined to the concrete channel that runs through the park. But the ducks and geese seem pretty happy. A solid 3.5ish stars, will be back next time I'm in the area.

A handicapped-accessible pathway invites everyone in. We watched some young boys fishing and they caught 23" northern pikes- repeatedly! There is lots of room for kids to run and play, traffic is far away, and there are wonderful events regularly scheduled throughout the seasons. We just visited the Healing Wall, and have also enjoyed several stage programs. All free! Whether you have young children or are empty nesters, this park is peaceful and fun for all ages. Dogs are welcome also. After having fun at the park grab dinner down the street; there are many restaurants to choose from. Hartland is a small town that offers lots for everyone to enjoy!

The layout is simple--there's a stage and pavilion for bands, movie nights, performances, etc., a baseball diamond, some large open fields/areas, a space for a beer garden during the warmer months, and a playground and picnic pavilion. An ice rink is also installed during the winter months, so if you have your own ice skates or want to pay a few bucks to rent a pair, head down here for some fun night-skating under the bright lights. I've personally spent time at the beer garden in the summer, which is run by Pat Endter, the owner of nearby Endter's Sports Grill, and it's a great little treat to have for the area--the staff is always super nice, the beer is always ice cold, and the selection is great throughout the different months it's open. There are more than enough umbrella-covered picnic tables to accommodate a large crowd, and the fact that we can bring our dog with us to have a beer outside is awesome. The pavilion/stage is also a unique draw for the park--I've seen movies, comedy shows, and bands perform on the stage there, and the events are always free for the public. There have also been instances of major sports games shown on the inflatable projector screen the Village of Hartland owns and uses at the park, and this allows for a cool sort of community camaraderie when the weather is warm enough to allow for such activities, especially with the food and beer from the beer garden. Probably the coolest part of the park though is the mere fact that it's on the Ice Age Trail, one of Wisconsin's big claims-to-fame. For those who don't know, the Ice Age Trail is one of eleven National Scenic Trails, and it runs solely through the state of Wisconsin, meaning it's locally maintained and managed for the most part. There are only a few municipalities throughout the state of Wisconsin who can say that the Ice Age Trail runs through the heart of their communities, and the fact that this park features a segment of the IAT itself is pretty cool and a fact to brag about to neighboring communities.

We loved playing on the playground located on the park too. The only downside of the playground is that it's sandy, which can get a little messy, but our boys loved playing in the sand! Outside of the playground, the park is made up of large green fields to explore and run around. We wandered all around until we found a set of stairs leading down to the lake and takes you right to the beach. The path was so pretty! The lakefront in Chicago is always so busy, it was nice to be right along the water and it be so quiet. Doc Park is a gem!

I love that it's such a vast park, which so much open space to run, picnic, or post up on a blanket with a book. It also happens to have my son's favorite playground around, so he's always requesting we go! Surrounding the play area are plenty of picnic tables where we have seen grill-out type gatherings before. It's on our list to plan a big one with friends this summer. Plus there's a pavilion down one of the paths that has bathrooms and a covered space which comes in handy. Oh and the BEST part? The very best part!? The relaxing and beautiful walk down into the woods that leads your straight to the Milwaukee shoreline. Everytime I walk down I think that it must be the best kept secret because it's never (ever!) busy. Maybe I'll regret telling the community in this post!? The two pathways, be it quite steep, are wide and paved, winding down into the forest. When you get to the water you find the most stunning and serene views. Sometimes I forget how lucky we are to have Lake Michigan attached to our city. There's nothing not to love at Doctors. Get outdoors and enjoy!

Not far from Colectivo - perfect excuse to grab coffee before hitting the park for a play date! Wood chips, baby swings, monkey bars, multiple slides, small equipment for young ones, garbage cans, benches. Playground is suitable for younger & older kids. The park area is a great spot for anyone to relax or walk!

When you're relatively new in town, there's so much to explore it can be overwhelming. One of my…read moregoals this summer has been to visit as many parks as I possibly can, and this week's intention was met when I visited Veterans. The park itself is simple and lovely, with paved paths for those who like to run, walk, bike, etc. For those of us who are a little more sedentary, there's plenty of room to spread out with a blanket or chair. There are the usual lovely views of the lake, but the view of the city is particularly interesting from this perspective. One of the highlights is the Gift of Wings Kite Shop, which not only obviously has kites (and what a selection!) but also serves snacks and delicious Chocolate Shoppe ice cream from our friends over in Madison. I highly recommend the Yippee Skippee.

And another location to rent the 4 wheel bikes. Park is clean and picnic tables available. Not too many people were there on July 5, I'm pretty sure the place was crowded on July 4 for the fireworks. There is a pier that few people were standing and fishing. Not sure if they caught any fish.
