The different displays keeps us going back every few months. Went here at 9am when it would open and there were only a few visitors. Wisconsin residents have discount for entrance. We were able to see all 3 domes in an hour: Show Dome, Tropical Dome, and Desert Dome. Compared to the Desert Dome in the Omaha Zoo, these domes were smaller. Nevertheless, these domes have varied plants from different parts of the world which were amazing to see. The Show Dome has a small short bridge and a gazebo which were nice areas to take pictures. A small gift shop sells some small plants, magnets, shirts, jewelry, pins, etc. Overall, it's a good place to visit. read more

This is an incredible experience! The domes are huge, beautiful, warm! The plants are natural, beautiful! They have three domes, a floral dome / show dome, a desert dome, and a tropical dome. The show dome has a train that goes around and it's great for kids, my child was entertained for a while. It's very relaxing to come here do some nice walking, take in the beauty of the earth. We love coming to the Domes. It's great at all times of the year, because they have rotating special exhibits in the showcase dome throughout the year. Small enough to do in a few hours and enjoy three distinctly different plant climates. There are tables and chairs and benches out in the lobby area if you need to take a break in between each dome. Bathrooms and water fountains are available in the lobby. And, they have a gift shop. We visit since different plants and trees are blooming all the time and to enjoy the special exhibits. Mitchell Parks Domes was really fun. It's not a massive place and the three domes could probably be explored in about 30 minutes, or you can drag it out to as long as you want. I still enjoy a day at the domes. My track record seems to be the annual 4-1-4 day visit for $4.14. I was glad I was able to visit all three domes this year. The show dome had a beautiful bee exhibit with so many great flowers. I enjoyed strolling through the desert and tropical domes. Plenty of parking. The Mitchell Park Domes are AMAZING! It's such a great place for locals AND tourists. And the staff does a fantastic job of maintaining such huge variety of plant life. If you visit once, plan for about 2 hours to truly take in the sights. But ideally, you'd be a member (which supports a great cause) and come here monthly to focus on different areas. We were looking for some kind of activities on this bitter cold day and decided to go to the domes to see the Christmas Display. Milwaukee County residents get a discount and for us (60+) it was only $6 each and kids under 12 were also $6 each, so it was very affordable. We started with the Tropical Dome which was very nice, the Dessert Dome, which is. my favorite was also beautiful. The Mitchell Park Domes are a Milwaukee treasure. In a city that has a solid 4+ months of winter weather, the Domes offer a lush green respite to the gray monochromatic winter months. There are three domes: one is a tropical dome, the second is a desert dome, and the third is a seasonally rotating floral show dome. The tropical dome is warm with leafy blooming tropical trees and plants flourishing throughout the dome. There is also a small water feature with a small water fountain and koi pond. You enter and there's a trail that takes you through the dome where you'll find many of the plants and trees labeled for your reference and edification. The desert dome offers a dry contrast to the tropical dome. With desert cacti (sometimes a'bloom) and reddish rock, you'll feel transported to a natural landscape that is a bit more stark in its beauty. I love heading into the desert dome on a humid day to enjoy the dry heat. The third dome, as I mentioned rotates at least seasonally (I think, more like five times a year). I've seen many iterations. The most recent was the train show. With model (large model) type trains zipping around the dome and cheerful fuschia blooms in abundance, wandering through the floral show dome was (and is always) a charming experience. We have an annual membership, so whenever we're feeling a little pent up, we're so happy to have this gem to wander through. It never fails to brighten our spirits. Get to it! read more

It's something Milwaukee Is known for. Each dome a different climate/atmosphere. Theres a dessert dome with more cactus than you knew existed. There's the tropical dome with a real banana tree. And the show dome that changes but consist of a train moving through the middle and plants of some kind, usually decorative for the season/holiday. Kid friendly. did have a slipping incident because of failure of Signage but was given tickets for a better second experience. Seating area to bring a lunch. Very popular for school field trips. I came across this place while looking for things to do on a last minute trip to Milwaukee. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was actually awesome! Upon arriving, I immediately noticed that they serve beer, something I wasn't expecting, but definitely a plus! We checked out all 3 domes, the tropical one was my favorite...the warmth and humidity were definitely welcome, as it was only 12° outside. The desert and show domes were great as well. A couple of positives: Parking was free and easy. This was very reasonably priced compared to other attractions in the area. The only thing that could be improved upon is that I didn't see a map or directory available. While the domes are fairly self explanatory, there is another greenhouse visible from the outside, so we weren't immediately sure if there was anything to explore in addition to the domes. Overall, I would definitely recommend this as a place to check out while exploring Milwaukee. read more

Part of the Milwaukee County Parks system, the Domes are a Milwaukee landmark treasured by many. This is one of the first places I visited when I came to Milwaukee for my first time a many years ago. The structures are unique and very old. There is damage to the domes and sometimes while walking through the spaces you will unexpectedly feel drops of water on your head but it's so slight and shouldn't deter you from a visit. There are three separate environments or displays here: the show dome which has a rotating display including the annual holiday flower show, the desert dome and the tropical dome. The desert and tropical domes are permanent displays with many of the plants in these collection in existence since the 60s/70s! We typically spend an hour here and it's always fun to visit in the winter but the Domes are open year round. Paid admission is under $10 per person including kids free under a certain age (maybe 3 and under). Theres lots of unique events held in the domes including several annual ones that require advanced ticketing. In 2024 they started offering a free sticker with a paid admission on Wednesdays. It can get crowded on the weekends especially with lots of young families so best to check these out on a weekday if you can. read more

I stopped by in January 2026, after not having been to the domes for at least 30 years. It was a great decision, even if I missed out on the floral dome. For ten dollars, and apparently no parking cost, the ticket gave me almost 2 hours of wandering. When I first stepped into the arid dome, I thought my memory of it having a lot to see was mistaken, but after taking it plant by plant, young me was correct. I actually enjoyed the arid dome more than the jungle dome, which I did not expect, but the fish/cacao/bananas were standouts, and I had not seen African violets in years. Enjoyed my visit a lot, especially on a cold winter day. I should try to make it to the exhibition dome, or during a different season. read more

A very unique botanical garden, situated in three glass dome greenhouses, each its own biome (desert, tropical [my favorite] and the Show Dome which on this occasion had a theme like the works of Georgia O'Keefe). So many beautiful plants, as well as koi (hey parents: don't let your dumb kids throw coins at the fish! Grrr...), a bearded dragon named Steve (he was hibernating on this occasion), and just the gorgeous lattice of the domes themselves above your head. Small gift shop. Mitchell Park is such a beautiful treasure in Milwaukee. Every year we go down to visit the garden domes and to see the festive decorations and beautiful plants. It's so cool that Milwaukee has this beautiful conservatory that really has something for everyone. There's a desert dome, a tropical dome, and for the winter season there is a Christmas themed dome with plenty of petunias. Entry is $9 for non-locals (there's a discount for locals and students). The three domes display a large variety of plant life. The domes are 140 feet in diameter and 85 feet high. The "Tropical Dome" features nearly 1,000 species of plants. The "Desert Dome" displays plants from the Americas and Africa. The "Floral Show Dome" hosts four seasonal shows and one holiday exhibit. It was closed when we went as it was getting ready for the spring show. I felt like the ticket should've been discounted because of that. Entrance was $9. The Mitchell Park Domes has been a favorite place of mine since being a kid. It's not in the greatest part of town, but there is an ample parking lot and is worth the visit. One of my favorites was when they did a butterfly exhibit. I especially like spending time in the warm and humid jungle dome during the winter. You can make your visit as quick or as long as you want, stopping to read and learn about all of the different plants they have in the different domes. While I have been here for multiple events including piano recitals, we most recently got to attend an open house and experience a the light & music show. We are very excited to be hosting our wedding here at the Greenhouse No. 7 venue (partnered with Zilli Hospitality Group for catering.) read more

Everyone should check out the domes at least once if you are in the Milwaukee area. Each dome is a different theme, one is desert, one is tropical, and the last was one dome is flower themed. However, when we went, the flower dome was closed to the public. We took allot of cool photos of plants and we had allot of fun exploring. The temperature inside the domes was about 80 degrees. So we came in with coats and immediately took them off. They have coat racks in case anyone would like to leave their coats outside, but it's at your own risk. I loved that they had an area to nurse my baby. They also had a little gift shop inside as well. Super cool find. read more

I remember visiting this beautiful place as a kid, then bringing my own son and now I went with a fried. We took a stroll through the domes and then went to lunch for her afternoon birthday celebration. It is just as I remember it. The Frank Lloyd Wright styled doorways, the terrazzo floor and the cute gift shop all seem so charming. The sitting area out in the center, is great for taking a break before checking out another dome. The ladies at the front, where you purchase your tickets, are so sweet. They are all smiles and very helpful. We had questions about different rates, and they had all of the answers without acting rushed. The tropical dome is lush and humid, just as you would expect. The water feature and koi fish is gorgeous. The desert dome has so many unique cacti. I love that are seating options throughout the domes. It's the perfect way to relax and enjoy. There is even a cute gazebo. Outside there is a ton of parking. Located next to Seven Bridges, there is beauty even before you enter. It's so easy to get to, right off the highway. I had this on my list of places to see now that I moved to Milwaukee. I went alone since I was new and wanted to explore the area. I got a Wisconsin resident discount, which was perfect. I went into three domes, and all of them were so beautiful. I'm a quick get-in and get-out type of person, so it was nice to walk around, see the plants, and then leave. The day/time I went was particularly busy, but it didn't make the experience different. Next time, I'll go back with someone and take my time, maybe read a sign or two :) read more
