Jason Mitchell is a con man. He bragged about his ability and boasted about being bonded. He took my money and abandoned the job without completing it. He didn't level my floating floors before tiling (which was stipulated prior to signing the contract) and all of the tile work is unleveled and has buckling tile. The mortar is cracking and popping up. When I reached out to him for warranty repairs he told me to take it up with his attorney. I spent over $13k on a tile job for 4 rooms and I now need to have it all removed in order to have the floors properly leveled. He has no business being a contractor and I highly suggest you avoid him at all cost. My attorney has recommended that I look into a class action lawsuit against him. Edit: reply to Jason's response. Please do not believe the lies Jason has responded to my honest review of his tile failure in my home. 1st: The job was abandoned in June of 2019. 2nd: He refused to complete the job because I made the mistake of paying him the majority of the payments early after he presented a sob story about not being able to cover his pay roll. This was pre grouting before we noticed the tile was laid uneven. 3rd: I remained calm and cordial with him through the 2 months. I provided photos of the numerous areas that were unacceptable and unprofessional done. He always guaranteed he would correct the issues and never did. 4th: He refunded me $1000, not $2k after I threatened to take him to court for abandoning the job. I never signed any post agreement with him. He was supposed to create one for me to review and he never did. He must be confusing me with another victim of his. 5: I'm the one that pointed out the floating floor was not properly leveled and he tried to repair the sections after he had already laid uneven tile. His attempts made the floor more unstable. Before I signed the contract with him he guaranteed my floors would be leveled. 6: I had found a few bad reviews regarding His work prior to hiring him and he provided the same type of lies he used in response to my review here. 7: I was contacted by a former employee of his that told me my floor would start to fall apart after around a year because of Jason cuts corners. & that Jason has a history of scrubbing bad reviews with Angie's List and Yelp. 8.I turned down his initial bid as it was extremely high. I was going to hire Luna. Jason lowered his price in his bid in order to win the job. No terms were changed for the work to be completed and he guaranteed the work to be on par with Luna. After his poor craftsmanship became apparent he made a remark that he did level the floor because he lowered his price. Please note prior to the contract being signed we specifically discussed how the floor being leveled was to be included. (Not the basement floor, the main level were the tile us all falling apart now). He even made the remark "floor leveling us automatically included as it's part of properly tiling". 9. Our basement was destroyed with a flood and we needed to get it rebuilt and back to move-in ready. In addition we wanted a number of additional electrical outlets installed to the outside of our house and garage. Jason and his team were able to get this done within two weeks, even working with us to change the game plan midway thru and still work within our budget. He's very reasonable and we appreciated his transparency with the work that needed to be done and the budget. BONUS: we had a blackout on one of his work days and instead of just not showing up, he showed up that morning with a generator so we could plug our refrigerator in. He didn't have to do that, but he also did not hesitate to offer. In the end, his work is clean, great attention to detail, and he is great at communication. We had a bathroom that was leaking from the second floor so Jason assessed our situation, gave recommendations and worked with us to choose our own own items like tub, toilet, vanity, etc. that shows our own design or our personality of what we want to see in our bathroom with our budget. Jason is the most effective and resourceful Handyman that we have every met. He first helped us by ingeniously resolving a tricky, intermittent sump pump failure that several reputable North Shore plumbing companies had failed on and he did so at a very reasonable cost. Unreliable, shoddy workmanship. Jason's workmanship was poor-- for example, installing a trash pullout but not checking to be sure the trash fit (it didn't), promising us he would repair the alignment on a cabinet and instead screwing in a magnet, curtain rods hung unevenly, etc. On our job, he left part of the job unfinished--a cabinet door that we had contracted with him to reinstall. He collected payment from us for all of the work including the unfinished/problem work, and promised he would come back. That was five months ago and he made and no-showed for at least four appointments with us. He also canceled same day for our initial estimate. We are out our money and a good amount of our missed work on his no-shows. I have never in years of using yelp had yelp reviews that were so different from my experience and I question whether all of them are genuine reviews. ETA: I am posting photos of the work Jason claims was 95% complete. There was no additional work added same-day--we arranged one additional item for extra money a week in advance by email. I went back to my calendar and the multiple times he now-showed or canceled spanned weekday, weekend, multiple morning appointments, and afternoon/evening appts and one we even left as "morning flexible" to work around his schedule. There was no attempt to return our money--if I am upset enough to write a yelp review why wouldn't I return a communication about our missing money. We had our basement flooded and needed to fix drywall and replace our basement carpet. We chose to replace it with a wooden floor and Jason was a delight to work with. He was professional, flexible and worked around our schedules and made recommendations and did additional odd jobs and fixes around the house. He went over and beyond and picked up samples from the floor people, had materials delivered and hauled away. April 2017 - the floor that jason installed has gaps and cracks in it. We have gotten in touch with him several times in the past 2 months but he has not shown the interest or commitment to fix the problem. He has cancelled or not shown up on multiple occasions.
