I had made pre-paid funeral arrangements with them for my mother several years in advance of her death. When the time came, a phone call to them was all that was needed for them to handle all matters immediately and completely, with great care and compassion, all according to what had been agreed upon. (This included the complication of a graveside internment and service in a cemetery 200 miles from Chicago.) Working with Bill and Olivia was a bright spot during a very dark period for our family. They did a terrible job on my father's funeral and made a terrible time all the more stressful for me and my family. They may be the cheapest option out there, but saving a few dollars was definitely not worth the added pain they caused. read more

A Yiddish word that means "a person of integrity", is Mensch; what we might call a "good guy". This is how I would describe Lloyd Mandel, the man, and his business, Mitzvah Memorial Funerals. The sudden, unexpected loss of our sister is the challenge we brought to Mitzvah Memorial. Lloyd spent time listening to our concerns and issues with compassion and understanding, and was able to guide us through this emotional experience in the gentlest possible way. We felt as though he was a part of our family, making suggestions and taking care of every detail. He never tried to "sell us" on anything; almost the opposite, by eliminating unnecessary or costly items that would not add that much to our ceremony. So on a bitter cold day, our graveside service had all of the warmth and tradition of one that was held in a chapel. It was simply a beautiful tribute to a special woman.
