A must-try when in Lyon!…read more What a cool restaurant in the heart of Lyon surrounded by many other fine establishments. This one stands out for its commitment to great service and outstanding sandwiches (tartines/toast) hot and cold. The decor here is beautiful with the stonework inside with quite a few tables as well as tables outside. Our server was outstanding, we ordered wine, cider, foie gras and egg salad tartines, and a couple of desserts. The toasts were excellent. The raspberry dessert was too mushy and the coconut dessert too dry. But we will be back for more tartines and to try their burgers.

Only one waitress spoke English, and she wasn't serving us - however she did explain about the different specials of the day. Our actual waiter was super nice and patient as we ordered and the food was amazing. We chose one tartine each (party of 3) and cut them into thirds so we could each sample everything. - Tomato burrata tartine with balsamic: very fresh, pretty much what you would expect from a tomato/mozz sandwich - The special that I ordered was pork with polenta and olives. It was amazing!!!!! - Croque Monsieur was also tasty - ham with tomato and cheese. We shared potatoes gratin and a bottle of wine. Really nice meal in a traditional Lyonnaise cafe. Cobblestone streets and adorable awnings - so picturesque!

A real Lyonnais bouchon experience where trying all the classics won't break the bank!…read more Hidden on a little side street amidst other restaurants tailored to locals, chez George really delivers that's authentic Bonchon experience you've been looking for. You can expect the classical checkered table clothes, a tight seating arrangement where the person sitting next to you is a complete stranger (that you'll get to chat and know along the evening) and a boisterous chef that welcomes you and comes to check on you many times during the meal. The menu has all the classics and you can even afford to try them all in one sitting without exploding the bank. However, if you eat everything, your tummy might explode ;) Given it was our last night, we went for 'la totale'. The plate of cold cuts was packed tightly with generous servings of terrine, pate de foie gras, saucisson. The quenelle was so fluffy and well souffled that it was like a pillow in your mouth. The tripes although not for everyone, satisfied our desire for offals. The andouillette was crispy on the outside and served with a well flavoured mustard sauce. All in all, for four hearty dishes, 2 glasses of kir and a 46cl bottle of wine, the total came up to 78€! Reservations highly recommended :)

We were abruptly told by a little rude waiter that we were late, he made such a fuss I thought he was going to say he couldn't seat us but then he gave us a table in the corner outside! The table was uncomfortably small (we are not big people) it was cramped! We ordered some drinks and apps and within about 20 mins I had water dripping down my back and on my arms which I thought was raindrops! I realized that actually it was water leaking from the apartment drains above. The water was also hitting the table and going in our food! We asked to be moved indoor where there were tables but we were promptly told to shift to the table next to ours outside. We did so but realized more water coming down on the food! When I complained and said it's unacceptable, the waiter asked do we want a table inside? Lol, so now you have space but before you didn't! The waiter just shrugged and said it's normal when you have apartments above! Absolutely disgusting attitude and rude treatment of paying customers! We left without finishing our contaminated food! We paid for it but there was no compensation or apology! Don't bother going here, most other restaurants we went to we received excellent service and pleasant people!

There are only a few bar seats around the small stall, and the servers running the place were so friendly and helpful. For lunch, I ordered the set menu that came with a large soup and fried rounds of quenelle on the side. The soup I selected was a deliciously creamy mushroom soup, which was fresh, hearty, and warming. I also tried the large salad with quenelle, which consisted of greens, confit tomatoes, and parmesan cheese, all tossed in a simple vinaigrette. The crawfish quenelle rounds almost acted like croutons with a deep seafood flavor! The set menu also came with a dessert selection, and I got the berry financier, a tiny baked cake that was doughy and not overly sweet. Overall, a nice place for a fresh, quality lunch, though the prices were high for the portion sizes. You can also buy a selection of the quenelles and soups refrigerated to take home!

Luckily my phone was working so I did a quick internet search, and we bought a small assortment to try. It seems that traditionally, these are some kind of fish-based dumpling that is poached. Giraudet has fish varieties, but also has vegetarian options in a range of flavours. To me, these seemed like a large, fluffy gnocchi, but I'm sure purists would challenge me on that. They also had a range of soups in plastic jugs, which looked good but we didn't try. There was a small counter for a few people to dine in, although it's obvious that most of their business is people taking away to prepare at home. We bought two large special ones and a selection of smaller ones to try. We followed the cooking instructions and served with Bordier butter that we bought nearby at Cellerier. Delicious and very filling, a simple meal that is uniquely Lyon. The shop assistant spoke enough English that between pointing and our high-school French, we were able to understand key points. Credit cards accepted.

We stayed the night in Lyon, driving from Paris to St. Tropez. We were lucky enough to find Cafe…read moreTerroir on the Michelin Guide website and made the reservation before our trip. Our experience here was wonderful. The restaurant is small and the decor is rustic and on the darker side. We were sat at a wooden table in the center of the restaurant. It felt totally appropriate for the overall vibe of Lyon. On communication, my partner and the kiddo both speak French, but I do not. This confused a lot of folks on our trip, as they don't expect to see the blank look on my face when they speak to me in French, after having just interacted with a native speaker. While most of the staff spoke with my partner in French so that I didn't understand what was happening or being conveyed, one staff member spoke to me in English, which I really appreciated because it made me feel less left out of the dining experience. It felt like a true act of kindness. To be clear, I don't go to restaurants in a foreign country and ding them if they don't speak any English there. I just wanted to note that it meant something to me that one of the servers noted our situation and made the effort to make me feel comfortable. Overall, the service was excellent and attentive as you'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Okay-onto the food. Oh the food! We started out with the soft boiled egg with cheese and bread and escargot. The escargot was very good. The kiddo ordered the soft boiled egg, said it was "so good," and sadly refused to share any of it with us. Needless to say, this is probably something you want to order. My partner and the kiddo shared the steak for two. Fortunately, they shared this one with me. This dish really was the star of the show. The steak had a depth of flavor I have not experienced before. Truly. There was something very special about this steak. I had the salmon dish, with a butter sauce and a stuffed squash blossom. This dish was perfectly cooked and flavorful, but the steak was so good it overshadowed what was otherwise an excellent dish. We ordered coffee after dinner and the ice cream. Oh wow. Order the ice cream for dessert. Do not miss this dish! The dish comes with dollops of a variety of ice cream flavors -the chef's choice. There was vanilla, and coffee flavor and a speculoos like flavor, among a number of others. They were so good-if I didn't have to avoid dairy, I would have ordered it myself. You cannot go wrong dining here when in Lyon. I'd absolutely come back for a visit.

Asked about how the leek and kiwi dish was prepared, "It's made with leeks," was her response. Thanks. The chicken is way overpriced,90€, and over rated. Mediocre at best. And the thing comes with its feet. What the ??? Makes eating it cumbersome. Waitress added for water we didn't have on our check and then just chose USD when I paying, thus further over charging me for an ehh meal. In fairness the chocolate dessert was incredible and the white wine was very nice. I'd say this place is a pass. El Malecon in NYC has a much better chicken. Perhaps the beef would be better.
