Worth the hype! Let's just say it was approximately 5 days into my Ireland trip and I was sick of meat and potatoes. I desperately needed some variety. I had heard of Miyazaki because their sister restaurant, Ichigo Ichie, has a Michelin star. While Ichigo is expensive and difficult to grab a table at, Miyazaki is more affordable and offers both takeaway and dining in their small seating area. I've also heard that you can also take the food to go and eat it at O'Sho, the pub across the street, as the two spots have a partnership. I asked for the staff members' recommendation and she said the Hake Don was her favorite. I took her suggestion and enjoyed the fried whitefish over white rice with cucumber, green onions, sesame seeds, and a delicious sauce. I was lucky enough to grab a stool and eat there but the place quickly filled up as the night continued. I would definitely recommend adding this place to your list when visiting Cork. I was impressed to find such amazing Japanese food place (in Ireland of all places???) and would totally return if I'm back in the area. read more

miyazaki is a small restaurant with a few counter seating options that offers takeaway. they were sold out of a few things around 7-8 pm, so if you really want something consider getting there earlier. there was a line to order when i arrived, and we had to wait about 30 minutes for our food, but man was it worth it. we ordered the chicken katsu curry and pork katsu curry (one of my favorite meals of all time) for takeaway. the portion sizes were great and the chicken was breaded beautifully. the curry was flavorful and included some veg. my partner lived in Cork and this was his favorite place. it is authentic and everything is delicious. read more

The people know about this place. The place looks a lot bigger on the outside (opposite TARDIS). Inside there might be about 8 seats. The Q is packed. Order for take away and miss out on some specials. The staff is helpful and friendly even for a foreigner like myself. I got a prawn onigiri and tantanmen. The onigiri was gigantic, and if you're not terribly hungry it might do you. The diamond was the tantanmen however. This dish was absolute gas. I did cry a bit because I'll have to fly back to Cork to get this again. The atmosphere added to the dinner. I felt welcomed, like someone elses home, and home cooking. Excellent experience. I highly recommend. On my first travels to Ireland, I did lots of research and this was one of the places I could not wait to visit when visiting the city of Cork. There are approximately six stools which would remind you of an authentic Japanese noodle shop. I went in for the lemon ramen and of course it was sold out! That's okay I opted for a beef noodle soup. It was delicious and I would reorder. The chicken wing appetizer was so tender with a slight bit of sweetness from the sesame. Absolutely order this. This restaurant is busy. Lots of takeout and the chefs are really pumping out all the great dishes, it was very enjoyable to watch. read more

The best Japanese food hands down in all of Ireland even the world! Chef Miyazaki's style and influence is exceeded beyond expectations. I stumbled upon a recent article about Chef Miyazaki, he has literally brought the country of Japan with him with authentic and fresh cuisine! His line chefs pay attention to every detail. The wait is honestly long, however with such specific in process and quality checks, it was definitely worth the wait! The most authentic Japanese food in Cork. Always ordered take away-never disappointed

The NY Times article "35 hours in Cork" recommends this place for their fast casual Japanese food and I couldn't agree more. It's a bit of a tiny space, but they have a bustling carry out business, though for the udon you'll need to dine in. We got here right around 8:15 pm and were able to snag some counter seats before 8:30, when they convert to take out only before closing up shop. I got the beef udon and an onigiri rice ball, and both definitely were welcome respites from the frequently heavy foods we were having during our tour in Ireland. I found the soup to be a tad too hot temperature wise, but such was the norm for every soup and chowder that I had on the trip. The udon was really quite delicious. I finished the entire bowl down to it's last drop. The onigiri had some pretty tasty home made pickles too. read more

Small take away spot where you can dine in or take out. The waitress working here was excellent and what you'd expect from a place of such acclaim: attentive, knowledgeable and more importantly, pleasant! Now on to the food. We ordered about five different plates between the two of us, names of which are unpronounceable to my level of linguistics but each plate spoke to me on a higher level than mere words could ever make. Stopped for lunch while driving through Cork, which was an inspired choice. They'd run out of the limited number of sushi rolls they prepare each day (we were rather late). We had gyoza, gyu-don and a special kimchi-pork belly don. All of them were very good. Service was impeccable, far more than what you'd expect at a take-away with six seats at the bar. Would gladly eat here again, and if we were local we'd probably order take-out every week. read more

Wow Amazing food! I'm usually picky with what I enjoy and this was spot on. I got the tori tatsuta don for €15.50. It is pricy but after I tried this dish I understood why. I have never had chicken this juicy and well marinated before. I was in shock. The rice was also very flavorful. They mixed in a white sauce that might have been mayonnaise but I have no idea. My only critique was that the rice was slightly over cooked, but overall 9.6/10. Incredible. Also, if you order take out watch out for the brown bag. When carrying mine it broke at the bottom and my food fell onto the ground, but thankfully they Saran-wrap the food so nothing spilled. Also, if you plan on dining in, make sure to get there at least 10-15 minutes before opening or you will not find a spot to sit and eat. It is first come first serve. If you cannot, then I would wait about 30-40 minutes after they open and you might get lucky. read more

The restaurant is small. At the time, we were kinda tired of Irish food and found Miyazaki. The food was refreshing, a change to our palate. The fried shrimp tempura was on point. Although, I wish they could serve the tempura on the side instead of directly on the soup. Since the soup makes the tempura soggy quickly. This place will not let you down when it comes to hot comforting meals! The Ramen is amazing and to be honest everything I've had here is superb. This is mostly a take-away place but there are a few seats to enjoy some of the dine-in specials. This small place will grow in love with this place like you did when you first saw cherry blossoms bloom. read more

This is my favourite restaurant in Cork. Particularly to any of my fellow international students looking for proper asian cuisine, this place the most authentic Japanese food in the country. Food can be a little pricy, but it's entirely worth it. I will warn that the space is a little small so don't show up in a big group and expect to get seats quickly. The ramen as well as some other items are only available in shop, but they have a ton of deliverable items too through Deliveroo. Aside from the food, the staff is absolutely fantastic. I want to give a special shoutout to Emily who just goes above and beyond. She's helped me resolve delivery orders that official customer support couldn't fix and has always made me feel welcome. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Just across the bridge at South Gate, stands a little Japanese restaurant called Miyazaki. Don't miss this if you are craving some soba, udon noodles and maybe even some dons or curry. The dashi broth is so good! This place is reminiscent of those little Japanese restaurants in Culver City. Jazz music playing in the background and room for just 6 patrons. The menu is very yoshoku (westernize Japanese).Try some of their specials for the day or something off the menu. Tip: please don't jam your hashis (chopsticks) into your rice/noodles in a vertical position. Bad luck! Lay them horizontally across your bowl. read more

Summary: I'm a weekly patron of this restaurant at this point, gradually going through the entire menu. first try: had agedashi tofu and a lemon ramen. agedashi tofu very nice, good broth and crispy skin, tofu well done and nicely topped with some very finely chopped scallions and nori. lemon ramen had shoyu broth, nori, some chopped onions and a slice of lemon, three honking big pieces of chashuu, a yude tamago (cold, but put into the hot ramen) and a lot lot lot of noodles which were fine although kind of stuck together that being my only major complaint in what was a fairly solid bowl of ramen. the soup and chashuu in particular were very nice and the lemon slice gave the soup a nice bit of citrus/vinegar tang. i tend to be one of those people who doctors up their ramen but in this particular case the patient was ready to be eaten directly. Nice ambience, friendly service and some good jazz tunes on the stereo didn't hurt so the verdict is that Miyazaki is a great place to find delicious quality authentic Japanese food in Cork. Additional visits: - was recommended 'some sort of fried chicken dish that's the best chicken I've ever eaten in Cork' by coworker. went in and asked....'so I am looking for some sort of chicken dish probably not an oyako-don' and was given the chicken tatsuta don which is basically about 8 pieces of chicken which have been coated in red potato flour batter and then fried, topped with spring onions, nori, and sesame seeds, all served on rice that has been mixed with some egg. Very very good very very filling. Had it at least twice now. - Showed up late- restaurant closing- got fish fry bento with chikuwa, nori and okaka on the rice and some nice tartar sauce/mayo on the side as well as what well might have been some burdock root. Excellent bento. Not sure if bento still on the menu in 2017 though... -katsudon - nice combo of pork katsu and runny egg with some sweetened soy sauce, greens and a bit of shredded red spicy pepper on top. - Salmon zuke don- had in the middle of a pub session on a Saturday - the question was asked to me 'Sorry but we are running low on salmon so either we can do a half portion or do a full portion with half salmon and half tuna sashimi.' I was like work away with that there then with the full portion! It was GOOD it had ikura on top and there was a nice bit of shiso leaf on the side as well as spring onions, chives, and wasabi - Kimchi buta don- nice, particularly with the addition of the rarely-used natto. Also some nice fresh field greens used on the top -okura curry - nice and light curry but tasted like it was made vegan meaning that it wasn't massively filling due to a lack of body in the curry -onigiri - the first one I had was very pedestrian even with a bit of otsumami it was kind of just a plain onigiri - second one I had was with mackerel bits in it, it was huge but the bits had been coated in some very heavy salty stuff that did not taste good, and both times they fell apart. Out of the thousands of onigiri I've eaten in my life the only two I thought were mediocre were here -you could get better ones at any 7-11, Lawson or Sunkus. Kakiagedon - like a lightly battered onion bloom on rice. Presentation good, tastes like what it sounds like. Oyakodon- very nice egg-chicken mix over rice with nori on top Katsudon - about the same as the oyakodon except with breaded pork chop instead of diced chicken, also nice. Katsu curry - The katsu were good, the curry was a bit on the watery side once again. Queue situation: There are ~6 seats, but the shop gets very crowded in the evenings especially around the weekend, as well as middays on the weekend. Expect to wait to dine in. Two things about me before I begin: (1) I am a 100% Japanese man living in Southern California, and (2) I love Cork City so much that I've been there 4 times in just 3 years. Cork City offers a wide variety of amazing food but, like all European cities, authentic Japanese food is impossible to find. Miyazaki ended that problem. I ate there twice on my last trip to Cork just a week ago: once to see if it was any good, and twice because it was really good! The owner/head chef is from the same prefecture in Japan as my parents. The food he makes tastes much like my mother's, and that's a very hard thing to admit. On my first visit to the restaurant, I got the chicken katsu curry (lightly-breaded, sliced chicken breast over rice that's covered with Japanese curry, which has soft potatoes, onions, and carrots). I happily devoured that in my hotel lounge. On my second visit, I was able to get a seat at the counter and enjoyed the salmon sunomono (slices of fresh salmon over thinly-sliced cucumbers delicately covered with rice vinegar), gyoza (fried pork dumplings), and beef udon (thinly-sliced, slightly gingered beef with thick flour noodles in a hot dashi broth). It was heaven on a rainy and cold day! Their specials change daily, and unfortunately, the tonkotsu ramen (ramen in thick pork broth) wasn't offered while I was in Cork. I'll get that, hopefully, when I go back in the summer of 2016. However, their menu is extensive, and I can assure you that whatever you're craving - light or heavy, hot or cold, meat/fish/vegetarian - will be there. The entire staff is Japanese, and the food is definitely authentic. You won't get a more Japanese experience in all of County Cork. I spent some time on the west coast of Ireland before I came down to Cork City on this trip, and I definitely did not see any Japanese restaurants. Reg B. noted earlier that people come here from Dublin. I'm not surprised. The restaurant is small with about 6-8 counter seats along the window. The place was packed on both nights I visited, so don't count on eating in during the rush hours. It's very easy to find - just two small blocks up Barrack Street from Sullivan's Quay. I came down to cork for business and was referred here by my boss - what a recommendation! The place opened up just 6 months ago and already has a steady flow of customers because the food is absolutely breathtaking. I have been to Japan myself and this place is really authentic. All the staff are so attentive, welcoming, and friendly. The staff are all Japanese too, so you know it's the real deal. Hands down the food is amazing. If you have never been to this place, just be forewarned that this place is not a sit down restaurant. It's mainly takeaway however this beats any takeout period. Absolutely Loved it!!! As a erasmus student with absolutely no cooking skills, I was so happy to finally eat something real again, that is not too fat like the Irish cuisine. The food is excellent once the main chef is in. Whatever you pick for your meal you will definately feel satisfied if you enjoy Japanese cuisine. Bucket of flavours or Ramen is to die for, sushi is delightful, chicken tandoori gives a pleasure shock to all the senses.. I highly recommend eating on the spot though because a delivery can simply ruin your dish if you order something like tempura (will get soaked). As for the place itself I wish it changed to a full restaurant size for it's mainly for take away. read more

Everything was fairly tasty, but the food quality was cheapened by the takeaway aspect of it. When we saw two bowls come out at the counter for some patrons who had managed to snag a seat, the presentation was absolutely delightful. We ordered the same meal and by the time we got it home, the once-crispy tempura had softened and everything else looked mashed together. I know this is an inherent issue with takeaway food and probably no fault of the restaurant, but for what we paid we were pretty bummed. Decided to try something different today. Visited Asia a few times and love the food, but it's very hard to find quality Asian cuisine with real culture fusion in cork. Well!! Sublime Japanese food. Miyazaki (the restaurant, not the chef and proprietor) is small, but isn't it said that 'good things come in small packages'? The standard menu is short, but covers staples such as ramen, Japanese-style curry, sushi and yaki soba, as well as sides such as pickles, gyoza and edamame. Menu items are keenly priced, too, with most coming in between €8,50 and €12. The menu is then complemented by a varied specials board: in fact, in my experience, it is there the real standouts feature. Tonkatsu ramen, sashimi (when the quality of the available fish allows) and shimeji mushroom tempura are just some of the options I've seen. Having been yesterday evening for the fourth time in as many months, I was thrilled to see the place bustling (standing room only, in fact), in particular, given Miyazaki's rather awkward location. My sole caution is that, while there are 5-6 stools available for those who wish to eat-in, Miyazaki's small size is obviously designed with patrons taking their food to-go in mind.
