Very long wait, maybe understaffed but they were nice and tried to be accommodating as one person in the group couldn't eat spicy. The sweet potatoes with crema was something I will be doing at home, the whole cauliflower was just as delicious as the first time I had miznon in paris- the minute steak and chicken were just ok but I think it was because we ordered it NOT in the pita... we also asked for pita on the side that was never brought to us but we were still charged for... This was my first visit to this location which is a couple blocks from the cathedral in Vienna. While it is close to the tourist area it is a little bit off the beaten path. It appeared to be a solid mix of locals and a few tourists thrown in. This is probably the first hipster joint I located in Vienna. We just happen to be walking by and it looked pretty cool so I stopped in. There are only a few tables in there and it's not very big, there are another four or five tables outside. I thought it was cool but they have this giant farmhouse table that seats probably 18 or 20 persons and people can sit there with other people they don't know. This is a seat yourself kind of place. You order at the counter which is the bar and they are doing some of the cooking back there too. It is kind of loud in there and they're playing music on top of that in a very eclectic variety but interestingly the Music was mostly American. When you place your order at the bar, you grab your drinks out of the cooler across from the bar unless it's something that the girl has to make for you. Menu is quite small. We had a baked sweet potato which is a very basic baked products, there was nothing special about it, the skin was a little bit crispy around the edges which made it nice. We also had this thing they call a smash potato which is essentially another big potato between two sheets of waxed paper that they literally smashed and then spoon some sour cream with chives on top. That was pretty tasty but nothing special. Everything that we ordered was tasty. The place is somewhat expensive for what you get particularly the sodas but that is how they do it in Europe. The Decor is interesting with a mix of random junk and large piles of fresh vegetables lying about. They have this open window which doubles as a sauce buffet which has some various sauces including this red sauce that appears to be plain tomatoes puréed in a blender and poured into the dish. The four stars is more for the atmosphere than it is for the food. The food was adequate but nothing special, the decor was interesting and different then anything around that area. It's also funny when you go in there and you get the typical bartender/waiter/cook Eyeball roll at you because they are ever so hip and cool to be working there and you are not lol. I'd rate this a 3.5 stars - I probably didn't have the best experience since we came here pretty late after not finding enough food at the Christmas markets, so they were out of half the menu which was disappointing. I'd want to come back here again to try the other things they were out of if I came back to Vienna. The seating and ordering is a bit of a mess - there are not that many tables and the place is pretty crowded. Come with 2-3 people in your group and not with more than 6+ people, otherwise you're not going to find many places to eat. There are mostly tables of 2 scattered about, with one long communal table in the middle. If you come during peak times, you'll have to wait for a table - there didn't seem to be a queue, you kind of just have to hover and wait, and it's first come first serve. You order at the front and then go into the back to get your table and wait there and hope that you hear them call your name when the food is ready. I wish they would just give you a number and have it shown somewhere or have someone run the food out. Most of the menu consists of pitas with different fillings - since we came for a late dinner, half the menu was sold out which was disappointing. I asked the cashier what she recommended out of the things that weere left and she was a bit rude and seemed exasperated with my question and said, "I dont know, why does everyone ask me that. What things do you like?" Maybe she was having a bad day, but I feel like if you work there, you should be able to give helpful recommendations and not make me feel like my valid question was something obvious and stupid. Without any help from her, I ended up getting the steak and eggs pita, the lamb patties pita, and then a head of roasted cauliflower. The steak and eggs pita was terrible - I wouldn't order this. The steak was overcooked and rubbery and I couldn't chew it too well. The lamb pita was great - I don't normally like lamb, but this was delicious. The pita bread is also fresh, fluffy, and great. The head of cauliflower is a bit expensive at 8€, but it's delicious nonetheless. It's roasted and comes as a whole head, and you kind of just attack it with a fork and knife. This can be easily shared between 2-4 people if you don't all mind eating the cauliflower straight. Overall, my experience here was a bit mixed - the seating and calling out orders was a bit of a cluster; I didn't find the service to be particularly good. I'm sure the sold-out flavors of the pita are better than what I ordered, but I did like the lamb pita and the texture of the pita bread. All in all, I'd give it another chance on a return trip to Vienna. It's a good place to come if you want a break from Austrian food and it's centrally located in a very touristy area, but I wouldn't really come out of my way to eat here. read more

A very interesting food spot worth checking out. It's very casual and perfect for a quick bite. The restaurant is rather small but many tables are suited for groups so it is not unusual to find yourself sharing a table with strangers. The must-try items on the menu are their pitas. I recommend the chicken pita but if you're a fan of lamb then go for that one. Coming to Miznon, one must also order the grilled cauliflower. Their cauliflower is served as a whole head with the stem and everything and only lightly seasoned, nothing else. It's simple but absolutely delicious. Remember to grab some of the sauces at the front, which can be added to both the pitas as well as the cauliflower. The staff is very friendly as well and there's just a great atmosphere. It's just a very fun and chill dining experience. So if you haven't been (especially if you're a local Viennese foodie looking to try something special) definitely check this place out. read more

Jewish places are often vegetarian friendly - which is why the love of my life dragged me here. There was a heat wave on - and the inside of the place was about four hundred degrees. We ate outside which was not wonderful but was not Dante's Inferno either. Drink options are limited and iffy. Food options are limited but yummy. Good grilled meats on Pita (which you need to have to be able to compete with all the wonderful Doner Kebab places in town.) These folks can compete in the Middle Eastern grilled pita game. Good vegetarian options for your pita. (Love of the life had grilled cauliflower with the secret house spice. She gave it thirty eight stars.) At the hotel's recommendation and good reviews, we decided to stop after overdosing on pork. We decided to try the runover potatoes, the minute steak in a pita and the chicken de sac (and the ice tea and coke for drinks). All were very tasty and satisfying. No salt required on the potatoes or any other dish for that matter. We added the chili on all of our dishes after trying it on the minute steak - delish! The herbs were a refreshing contrast to the rich aioli on the chicken. Note that you need to order up front then find a seat and the seating is first come first served. We sat at the communal table and enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant. We recommend you add this stop to your dining itinerary. read more

We visited Miznon based on the rave reviews. We were honestly a bit disappointed. The seating is a bit challenging. The tables are crammed so close together that we felt like sardines. The food was just okay. The lamb kebab was tasty, but the minute steak was actually quite bland. It tastes like unseasoned meat with plain chopped tomatoes on top. The spicy chili sauce was not spicy at all and didn't help the lack of flavor. We wished we had ordered another dish, but the menu descriptions are so cryptic that we were afraid to try something else. The menu seemed to have a lot of inside jokes, making it hard for a visitor to decide what to eat. Came here to get some lunch, and was lucky enough to get a small table close to the bar. We had already checked out the menu and wanted to try the pitas and the cauliflower. The restaurant is quite small and most of the tables are suited for smaller groups. It is also possible to sit at the bar if you don't mind the people working there screaming out the names and of the people whos food is done. We thought it was a bit amusing listening to them, but as you might imagine it is a noisy place. We got one big pita, two smaller ones and a cauliflower. It all tasted nice, but it wasn't amazing. Also I thought it was quite pricey considering what you get. I would definitely not pay 10€ for a cauliflower with some salt on it. read more

Sit at the bar and you won't miss out on their celebratory shots on the House! The staff are funny, welcoming and delightful. Felt like a family and they were welcoming us into their home. Food was fresh and delicious as I would expect from most Israeli places, but some of their dishes also make them also unique. I asked what they recommend and was pleased with the order. This is not going to be a review but a love declaration, I'm afraid. When Miznon opened up a few months ago, I read about it here and there. It caught my attention, but I still didn't see what's so special about it. Now I could sum it up as simple but amazing food plus cheerful, though laid-back southern vibes - but the best way is to go and see it for yourself. Even when I first entered the place last evening, I was still not sure what its USP was going to be. OK, shabby-chic hipness now in the 1st district - for a change - with those must-have industrial ceiling lamps and all - that we have seen already. I thought pita will taste a bit more spectacular than elsewhere and that's it. But no, that was by far not it. Because luckily, we decided to sit at the bar. I think that way you can experience it best. And if you would stay long enough, I guess you would want to climb it and dance on it too. Luckily they are only open until 10:30pm since nothing else would work in this location. But I love to sneak a peek in the kitchen, and here you have the perfect opportunity. You see the organised chaos that's happening while your delicacies are being prepared. And no, I was not disturbed by them loudly shouting people's names when an order is ready. OK first I did think I'd go deaf if it continues, but after a while, I found it only charming. They say the place turns into a real party towards the evening, and I could see this gradual process. Between 7 and 8 it gets quite full, and more dynamic accordingly, The music gets funnier, not even louder, but you start paying attention to it, since they play a funny mix of songs - not like music snobs with the pretention to look cool from the outside, but only with the intention to have fun on the inside. This reflects on the crowd too, so you see that people are eating and having fun almost as if they were drinking in a bar. Something like that. Which brings me to food. Their ratatouille is the best dish of the kind I have set my fork on. I had to wonder how you achieve the softness. It was almost like a spread - no veggies that need chewing, including melanzani skin. Cauliflower is a poem for itself, but I thought the way they serve an entire head is the best part. I learned how to eat a fresh (cooked) artichoke which they also serve whole, with aioli. Sauces that you can help yourself with from the window make you go crazy over the rest even more, because it all combines like a dream. I managed to get a few stains on my skirt, and I didn't mind. Dress casually, this is a place where you get dirty. It is street food after all, served in paper mostly, you will improvize a lot while eating but make sure you share whatever you can with whoever you came with. In the end I spotted them carrying something resembling a tiramisu behind the bar - and I sure had to have it. They call it Tatami, a very simple and finally creamy cake for me - instead of some usual MohnObstKuchen - thank you for making creamy cool again, Miznon! Just like that cake, this restaurant is a real refreshment in the serious Viennese offer. Or if anyone knows a place with similar vibes, let me know. I'm kind of all about this place, bout this place, bout this place....(nailed it or was that tacky?) Anyway, situated right behind Stephansdom and in the heart of Vienna is this Israeli pita place for both meat lovers, gluten free eaters, and vegetarians alike. It opens everyday at 12:00 and you'd best get in line. The food is de-lish, cheap and is served by the friendly line cooks. It is self service so if you grab a table outside know that you have to go up and order your food at the register, which is why I recommend grabbing a spot at the bar. First off you have easy access to your food and you get faster refills, but secondly you get to watch the cooks go at it and that is super fun to see. Also a great place to take and post Instagram photos from, the place is colorful and the food is haphazardly photogenic. So take a peek at the outside menu or huddle inside by the register and grab a menu and decide what you'd like. You won't regret it. read more

I was visiting Vienna this past weekend and say this place. It doesn't look like anything from the outside, but they have heaps of vegetables in the window and it was full of people, so I thought, it must be good! It was extremely busy, but I was offered a menu in English - and to my delight I was able to order a vegan option! As far as I can tell it was food served in pitas, basically any meat or veggie in a deliciously, fresh tasting pita. The space is very cool, you can see them prepping, cooking an preparing your pita as they shout loudly for you to come collect it. They have a bar with some seating, but also offer seats scattered towards the back. I watched as the roasted entire broccoli's and cauliflowers on the grill, which smelled amazing! They have a small bar with some sauces, as far as I could make out one was a fresh tomato, and some sort of yogurt sauce, as well as olive oil with fresh green chillies and pickled beetroot. I opted to add some chilli's and pickled beetroot to mine and took it away. I would have to say it is one of the most delicious pitas I've ever had in my life. I can't really tell you what it was in it, but it was so good. I wandered by again on another day, I wasn't even really hungry, but I had to have another. The staff are very nice and the service was excellent. After looking it up, it is a Hebrew restaurant. I would recommend this place to anyone. My friend and I traveled to Eastern Europe in Aug 2018 and Vienna was on our itinerary. I find Vienna very beautiful but stiff and almost lacking in personality. One night we were wandering around the streets and heard some cool music coming from this tiny place. Inside, we were blown away by the energy and people inside this restaurant. We ended up getting what I can only describe as a cross between a taco and a shwarma and that was very delicious. But what blew me away was the cauliflower they served, boiled and roasted whole and sprinkled with just a bit of grey salt. It was outstanding! Almost two years later and I'm still thinking about it and I knew I had to write a review. Logistically, this place is a shit show. You sort of crowd the counter to order - before or after that you grab a seat where you can. The waitress may run interference and seat people in the order they arrive . . . or not. If you ask for any modifications to your order - no sauce, whatever - they may do it or they may just say "no." So, that's a bummer. When the food is ready, they yell out your name . . . which is sort of silly because it is always crowded and loud so you won't be able to hear them. They may try to come bring your food to you . . . or not. It is a bit expensive, probably in part because they are essentially on Stefansplatz. Despite all that, the food is fantastic. Order the cauliflower - even if you hate cauliflower. Especially if you hate cauliflower. It is great. The burger pita demonstrates that it is, in fact, possible to make a very good burger in Vienna. The intimate meat moment pita is really good. By the door there is pita with yogurt sauce and green chilies in oil . . . whenever they get around to refilling them.
