I would give this place a 6 star if possible, is that awesome. It's my 3rd time here and all three times I had the best deal and dining experience. Came here on Valentine's day. Obviously, it was packed! Lucky for us we scored some bar seating. I highly recommend checking this place out. Yes, it's a little pricey. But where else are you going to get this kind of dining and drinking experience!? Since we were sitting at the bar, the food menu was limited. We decided to try The Trencher $24 (Meat served in a hollowed-out bowl of bread) and Roasted Bone Marrow $23. The bone marrow was excellent. However, the meat served in the bread bowl was too salty for my liking. Now of course the drinks! We absolutely had to order a Beer in a Horn $15. And I personally could not resist ordering the Pillagers Downfall $25. I came in this Viking tiki cup,so cute!!! We also tried the Northern Lights $21 and Gates of Valhalla $22. Overall, worth it. This place was such fun. Loved the entire Viking setting and the chance to drink out of a horn goblet. Was looking for a meat focused restaurant which didn't just serve 'steak with the choice of pepper or diane sauce'. All the dishes we ate were fantastic (Meat items we had were Steak, chicken, pork). The lads even loved the crispy broccoli (I can't recall the last time they praised a flora dish). We cleared every plate. I force feed myself the dessert as I refused to miss out. I glad I did as the banana pudding was fantastic, cripsy, moist and sweet) and I'm not normally a fan of the yellow herb. I was the only one under 6 foot and who can't eat a Macca's family meal to themselves, but we all walked away full, which made the price per head for such a great meal seem like a bargain. Everything here was amazing. From the vibe to the food. We sat down and were pleasantly surprised by our personal Viking pouring us a shot of mead! We ordered beer in a horn(why not) and ordered the prawns to start. Prawns were delectable. Our Viking brought us out a leather knife pouch to select our knife for eating! My husband ordered the pork belly and Brussels and I had the short rib with potatoes. Everything was so simple but full of flavor. We ended our night with cocktails. Being able to visit Mjølner and enjoy such a an experience within the restaurant with everything on offer is something myself and my partner will always appreciate, the time we spent in Mjølner drinking from Freya's fixes and ofcourse the mead as well as the perfection of such modernised dishes derived from the background and the overall ambience and design helped us feel closer with our Gods. And we can not thank you enough! We look forward to visiting Mjølner again, and to continue to try out the rest of the food and beverage menu! My brother sent me a video of this restaurant on social media because he knew I was visiting Sydney. Immediately after watching the video, I made reservations. Last night, I visited this beautiful restaurant. It took awhile to find this place as there were no signs but the door was prominent and felt like a speakeasy. When opening the door, you're immediately greeted with the stern of an old Viking ship and led downstairs. The staff was friendly, personable, and quick. We didn't wait too long for food or drinks and paid immediately. We ordered the Bird, Beast, Gravlax, Smooth Valley Sour, and the Blazing Glogg. Everything was wonderful and I loved being able to choose my own knife to cut the meat. My only complaints would be that they don't have the license to do take away and the music was too loud/wasn't authentic to the atmosphere (though I did enjoy the music and would listen to it at home, I like when the music matches the scenery). The atmosphere is great- helped by the use of Viking helmets, axes, horns (to drink out of none the less!) and dark lighting. The food and drink was delicious, with the novelty of getting to choose your 'weapon'- a heavy knife that goes with the theme. Above all was the service. Tom, our waiter was very knowledgeable and had a wonderful personality. My partner was doubtful of the 'themed' aspect before we got there, but was very impressed by it all. read more

You might miss the entrance to Mjolner if you aren't paying close attention. But once you pull open the large unmarked wooden door and climb down the stairs, you'll love the beautiful bar and thor-themed decor. My colleague and I ventured here without a reservation (our mistake) but their bar still had a decent selection of apps and their infamous cheese/meat plates. The ploughton's board was plenty for two and we kept ourselves full with their creatively named viking cocktails and beer served in a horn! The horns are a huge attraction (all beers can be served in a horn) but warning that the horn stands may be hard to come by when the bar/restaurant is busy. Real Vikings don't need a horn stand. Our friendly bartender also gave us the run-down on how to drink out of a horn without accidentally dumping the beer all over. "The horn should also point to the left or the right, not straight up!" The whole experience was a great time and the food and drink didn't disappoint. We'll hopefully be back next week while still in town with reservations for a full sit down dinner. Can't wait to use our weapon of choice (eating utensil) to chow down. read more

A really good table service and tasteful food. A perfect place for the fans of Thor or looking for something different. Sydney need more dining place like this. They have a hidden door where you need to pay a bit attention, don't miss out. It is more fun to be there with a group of friends. read more

I was here with a group of 12. From the moment we were greeted to the moment we left the staff were OUTSTANDING. The venue is full of ambiance and the mood is set from the moment you find the door on the street. We had the banquet menu but before food was brought out we were all given a toast with a shot of Honey Mead. Delicious...another please. Then we got to pick our knives for the meal. All handmade with different handles. Personally i LOVED this and it really got me in the viking mood and ready to eat. We started with a few set entrees and the Bone Marrow was a big hit for a few while the others devoured the beetroot slaw but the Gravlax was my personal pick. The mains were Bird, Fish and Beast. We are 12 big sized guys and we worry with set banquets that there will not be enough food. But at Mjolner had just the right amount and EVERYTHING was delicious. The perfectly seasoned braised short rib fell off the bone in BEAST. The FISH was a little boney but even the non-seafood person on out table tried it and enjoyed it. BIRD was another dish that i could not fault and would of gladly had more of. With a side of baby potatoes, which had the right amount of horseradish to give extra taste but not overpower, and also some crisp green beans. Many fine choices with cocktails, wine and beer (served in a horn if you want) When we originally booked and saw the menu we had a few people decide not to come and some who were unsure if it would be for them or what to expect. But the ones who decided to give it a go raved the most about Mjolner and were very very happy they came along. Was it pricey? Yes, a little more that what i normally treat myself to. But it was worth it If the drinks were a tad cheaper i probably would of drunk more too. I can not praise Mjolner enough and not just the food. The staff made the entire night run smoothly and made it fun too. A great environment and cool vibe. Obviously i HIGHLY RECOMMEND Mjolner to anyone i speak with now. read more

We almost did not eat here because the giant doors we very inconspicuous and jammed tight. Glad we figured it out though because the food was outstanding! The viking theme was so much fun. We loved the complimentary mead and every drink we ordered. The bar menu is inventive! read more

My boyfriend and I ventured here to celebrate his birthday. The whole experience was indescribable! Our waitress Freda was an absolute doll, being attentive, helpful and kind. The restaurant itself had a wonderful atmosphere, on theme decor and comfortable seating. The complementary mead at the beginning was phenomenal and the three drinks we ordered past that (feeling meady, son of Odin and a third that I can't recall that was served hot, with a fun fire show) were delicious--along with the fun of drinking from a horn. Next, the food. We ordered the bone marrow starter, served with flavorful toast--excellent way to begin the meal), our main was the special that evening, the best lamb we'd ever had. Lamb is difficult to cook perfectly, the chef this evening nailed it--the lamb also came with crispy kale that was insanely good (who knew kale could be delicious??) We ordered green beans w/macadamia as our side which worked perfectly with our meal. Finally the bill came in a very cute card. The food is pricey, but definitely worth it...and we're two broke university students! We will return the next time we're in Australia! read more
