A very old shop with multiple rooms and corridors jam packed with second hand books. I have found some real treasures here. There are a few bookshops in Lincoln but this is the best! Hours can be spent in here. Books start at 50p and they had to open another shop (an old chapel I think) across the road to accommodate all the books. With more than 60,000 titles, this is a book lover's paradise and they will also buy books if like me you have thousands anyway. It is a bit pointless me selling boxes of books to them because..what do I do? I look round and buy more books.

In the town centre this is a great bargain shop with lots of bargains especially diy products which…read moreare a fraction of the RRP. Also have xmas they have a fantastic display with some great offers. the main problem is though it is totally over stocked so finding what you want is difficult as everything is piled on top of everything, but if you can it will be a lot cheaper then anywhere else. The staff are friendly and helpful. But do not go in with a pram as you will never get round, let alone back out again, as the aisles are that narrow and stock tends to be piled out and falling off the shelfs everywhere.

Mackays have re-branded themselves as M&Co, probably in a bid to attract a younger clientelle, and…read morethis shop in Retford is fully badged up in the new livery. It's a bit of a funny store: it isn't 'budget' cheap stuff, but it isn't expensive either. It's in the same sort of boat as BHS in terms of quality and price. I love Mackays baby stuff (I'll never call it M&Co!). They've got a really cute selection, and although it isn't cheap they do greatly reduce their sale items, so it's well worth visiting regularly. This store is a fair size and has womenswear and childrenswear, but no men's dept. Nice, spacious and clean, and staff were always pleasant when I've been there.

Wilkinsons is a really good shop for basic household bits and pieces. They also sell some quite nice homewares, pictures, kitchen stuff, lighting, paint and wallpaper, plants and garden tools. Some toys, stationery although not many, and a large section containing cosmetics and household cleaning products make it a really useful store. This branch is average in size, but well stocked. It's located on the main street, so you've got to walk a little to the car park but there is a back door and the rear tills are always open so you can get out that way to avoid lugging your purchases too far!
