Had used Word of Mouth Catering for years - food and service were always top notch. I believe they went through a sale last year. This year (2023) contacted them again; tried to get two proposals for a solid month. They would not hold a date without a signed proposal but I couldn't get a proposal. Was told two weeks before my event that they were booked on the dates I wanted. Really bad customer service this year. Am going to try Austin Catering based on some recommendations. read more

First, I get the whole "Word of Mouth" concept...but how about a sign out front...? So that your prospective clients will find your location without a hitch. Speaking of getting hitched....this is the catering company that my wedding venue required us to use. At our food tasting, the food was cold. I gave them the benefit of the doubt...surely culinary professionals will pay attention to a detail such as that on the big day? I couldn't have been more wrong. Not only was my food cold (and I was sitting at the first table to be served) ... as the guests at my table were finishing their main course, I looked out into the room, and saw that over half the tables were still awaiting their meals! Sitting there, politely, sipping their wine, and making conversation....what else could they do, while waiting a decade for their cold meal? It sure as hell wasn't being cooked or warmed....I wonder what the delay was? Waiting for the Gouda to age? A few days before the wedding, we find out that table service for wine and beer was NOT included and guests would be required to get up and fetch their own drinks from the bar during dinner. Advanced notice of this would have been great...and setting the bar up to NOT look like a cash bar would have been even greater. There's nothing tackier than a cash bar at a wedding, and we were thoughtful enough in our planning to budget wine, beer, and soft drinks for all our guests...only to realize none of them took advantage of it, because they simply didn't know the wine, beer and soft drinks were complimentary, and they had to get up to get them. My poor parents got up half-way during dinner, and as they greeted and chatted with each table, they also let the guests know that an assortment of refreshments was also available. This catering company proposed (their idea!) to take a sample of each of the 5 flavors of my wedding cake to each table, and let the guests know which flavors were which, thus giving them the option to choose which they'd prefer. What ACTUALLY happened, was that 5 petit-fours were flung on an oblong plate, and dumped on each table, no elaboration. I doubt if any of my guests knew they had a choice. The champagne toast that was to accompany the cake cutting was completely omitted, skipped, or forgotten? In any case, no champagne for the guests. Lastly, in my list of grievances with this company...tea and coffee was not served, although that same-morning, my mother had been on the phone with them, and had carefully selected an assortment of teas and blends that the guests might enjoy. As I mentioned in my review of the venue - people in the wedding business must know that they only have ONE chance at getting that bride's special day right. To them, it might be just another gig, but to a bride, it's her one and only wedding day. Displeased doesn't even begin to describe it. Chalk it up to incompetence, chalk it up to insufficient communication between the venue and the caterer, or WHATEVER you want to chalk it up to...Word of Mouth catering certainly shan't be recommended via word of mouth to my circle of friends and acquaintances. As I don't like to be entirely negative, I shall say: if the food had been hot, it would have been good, and the staff were polite enough. read more

We originally visited Word of Mouth catering to see if they could cater Southeast Asian food at our wedding at Laguna Gloria. Although we ultimately went with 34th Street Cafe to cater our wedding, it was a very, very difficult decision. The prices were competitive, so it ultimately came down to the food. We thought our tasting at 34th Street tasted more authentic and felt more inspired, but Word of Mouth overall had more creative servingware and presentation ideas. I had also tried their American and Tex-Mex fare at one of their open houses, and it was quite excellent. And they also had excellent cake. That was a bit of a shock, because we didn't even know they did cake unti our tasting, and it blew us away --- better than any actual bakery we tried. In fact, their Orange Blossom cake was so memorable that we ultimately chose Word of Mouth as our wedding cake vendor. The cake was super moist and not too sweet, and the Poire William flavored buttercream was creamy, but not too heavy. Utter perfection. read more

It started out great. I spoke with Sara over the phone and outlined a party I am planning for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. It took a few days to get the menu and proposal, but my mother and I liked the menu and decided to go with this company. I set an appointment with Sara on the only day my mother and I both had available - and Sara missed the appointment. When I called, it was clear she had completely forgotten about it...and then did not bother to apologize, only offering to "run right over" more than half an hour after the scheduled time. I told her we had somewhere else to be. Since then I have not received a follow-up phone call or even a courtesy email. I guess they don't want to bother with a smaller party. I have been in the food service business for years - including helping coordinate or cook for over 500 banquets and other catering events - and I know how important the customer service angle is when dealing with clients. Word of Mouth doesn't seem to get it, or maybe they just don't care. read more

I have always had an amazing experience when Word of Mouth has catered our events. The food is always as tasty in person as it is when selecting the menu items. Andrea was very easy to work with for all of our dietary restrictions when we were building our holiday party menu (we have gluten free, vegetarians, and vegan friendly items). Then on site for the Holiday party Nancy and her staff were AMAZING! They had everything set up on time when guests arrived and were constantly monitoring our stations to make sure the food was hot and that there was enough out on the table. The staff cleaned up super quick and quietly and were so polite and helpful. I can't say enough good things. I look forward to hiring Word of Mouth for our future company events and holiday parties. Myra came up with a delicious menu that fit our budget and made sure it was all perfect by the time the first guest arrived. My husband is also obsessed with the pork tenderloin cocktail sandwiches served on herbed biscuits. WOM made it easy to prepare for our wedding day knowing that the food would be delicious and beautifully presented. They also worked together with the rental company to ensure all additional display tables, cocktail tables, linens, etc. would be ordered and delivered on time. I never really had a need to use a caterer until my oldest daughter got married. We visited every major caterer in Austin and Word of Mouth was the absolute best caterer we visited. The food was outstanding, the service was exceptional and the whole event went off like clockwork. The food is simple yet creative and adds light and breadth to simple favorites with sophisticated embellishments. They worked hard and were able to produce exactly what we wanted. Our friends and family raved about how good the food was, and the cake was the best I have ever had! The staff was so polite, efficient, and we did not have to monitor them at all, which was great since we were busy with other stuff. I wish there was a rating higher then 5 stars! WOM saved the party after a small fire in the kitchen damaged almost 100% of the food they had planned to serve. The service staff thought on their feet and immediately brought in additional food to serve the guests. The WOM owner came right over to help bring more equipment and help his staff make sure the guests were having fun, despite a minor blip in the plans. The beef brisket (which hadn't been damaged by the sprinkler system) was some of the best I've ever tasted. If I'm ever in a catering crisis again I want Alaina and the rest of the WOM staff on my side. The party would have been a disaster without them and their quick thinking. read more

WOM catering (along with the team at the Winfield Inn) were extremely helpful in the early stages of our wedding planning process. Leslie, the owner of WOM, sent us to visit their bakery (must try, it's delicious!) after our first visit to their venue, which is a deal package of venue + catering services, and we were incredibly pleased with the variety and quality of the food (we tried the avocado Caesar salad and the citrus chicken sandwich as well as some pastries) and also their super friendly staff. The pastry chef happened to be at the bakery during our first visit and she was incredibly nice and answered all of my questions as far as cakes and pastries (which are a big deal for me). Unfortunately, we had a change of plans in our wedding and ended up not working with WOM for that event, but based on the three separate events in which we tried the bakery, which is at the very least a small showcase of their many services and options, we were very happy to be working with WOM for our wedding. Another important note, and a decisive factor which drew us in when selecting our original venue and caterer is that Leslie and the team at the Winfield (we worked primarily with Maddie, who is very knowledgeable and responsive via phone/email) is that they were open to incorporating Brazilian cuisine items to our wedding menu which is very very important to my fiance and I since I am originally from Brazil. As mentioned, we did not get to see their work up to the big day, but we would 100% recommend WOM (and the Winfield Inn!) since they were awesome to work with, very accommodating, and super reasonably priced. read more

5 stars don't quite cover the rating I want to give Word of Mouth. Leigh is an absolute pro and went over and above to create our perfect menu and day. Yes, I know all of us humans eat, but our family has strong food industry background, so this was a very important detail. Not only was our tasting a smashing success, but the food was as good, if not better, than when we tasted on site several months earlier. The service during dinner was out of control good. Our guests were raving about the food and the servers. Leigh and her crew took over our bar order as well after we had a last minute cancellation. In short, we would have been lost without them. My fiancee and I just got married and we used Word of Mouth catering for our special event. I cannot say enough good things about the people at Word of Mouth. From the day we met our coordinator to the day of the special event, they were on top of everything. The tasting events were superb and we loved their attention to detail. We were most impressed with the intensity of flavors delivered with their various hors d'oeurvres and entrees. Complementing this intensity was a nice balance so that all the flavors came together perfectly. For our wedding, we provided a cheese station and cocktail hour before the wedding ceremony. The wonderful cheeses were adorned with tasty fruits, jams, and honey making for a delectable beginning to the evening. After the ceremony, we had passed appetizers of wonderful complexity pleasing a variety of different palates in attendance. No one went hungry and no one went thirsty! They will also hook you up with one of the best cake makers in town (Liz Gifford). She made us a yummy red velvet bridal cake and an even yummier tres leches grooms cake. Can't beat that! They loved the food and are still raving about the cakes! I worked with Myra during the planning process. She is so professional and has a great 'can do' attitude! She really put my mind at ease during the planning process that everything would turn out great. And it did! We asked Myra to do a very unique seating arrangement and she was fine with it and seemed very confident doing it. The seating design was executed perfectly! The staff was also outstanding! I wish I could remember our supervisor's name but it escapes me now. He was awesome and checked with me, without being intrusive, throughout the night to keep the flow going. The bartender was so sweet to me (and I'm sure all the guest) and took care of me all night. The other staff was so kind as well! Great people! I will always recommend Word of Mouth! I tried there special sandwich of the day on focaccia bread, WOW! The mayo pesto sauce and avocado were great. The bread that the sandwich was on was AMAZING! Yes, they bake it there. I enjoyed it so much, I went back and asked for a piece of it to take back to the hotel with me. I have lived all over the US and 2 years in Europe, the bread reminded me of places I would eat in Europe. The staff were very friendly and courteous. This is the third time I have submitted an online request for a quote, received no response, called and then fallen through the cracks so to speak without receiving the requested information. I received an email asking if I still needed the quote over a week after I had to finalize catering plans. This is a fantastic catering company thank you to Kim for helping design the menu and to the amazing team of chefs the food was phenomenal they catered a graduation welcome and a graduation reception we had some ideas of things we were bringing to one of the events and they were totally flexible and made some great suggestions the kale salad the potato salad is phenomenal the roasted turkey sliders with arugula we couldn't stop eating amazing roasted carrots and squash who knew roasted root vegetables could taste that good and I am coming back to Austin for another slice of that Berry and cream cake people are still talking about the food at graduation reception it was that good thank you wish you were in Houston looking forward to stopping by the cafe and Austin really soon read more

Word of Mouth catered my wedding in November 2015 and I'm still hearing about how delicious and creative the food was. We worked with Alaina to put together the perfect menu; we wanted a hearty vegetarian wedding that meat eaters would love too, and she absolutely delivered! She really listened to us, much more than other catering companies we were considering. She stayed in our budget and integrated our feedback when we wanted to make changes. On the day of the wedding, the staff, led by Frank, was efficient, cheerful, and helpful all night. The attention to detail, like glasses of wine right after the ceremony, making sure my husband and I ate while we were going around saying hello to our guests, and moving chairs inside around the dance floor for the older folks to sit toward the end of the night, were special touches we loved. We provided our own alcohol and used Word of Mouth's bartenders. They were awesome too and everyone loved the cocktails they made. It did take some work on my part to get a proposal in the beginning but they turned things around and we ended up with a successful event with great food. We did an in-person tasting at Word of Mouth and sampled their signature dessert---Sour Cream and Berries cake. This did not "sound" good to me (I generally don't care for fruit in my dessert) but with the first bite we knew we'd found our wedding cake. It was light, sweet but not overwhelmingly so, and just tasted...perfect. Alaina was easy to work with and the final product looked identical to the pictures we'd sent as a model. It was beautiful. The price was in range and competitive with other bakers. We were supposed to wait one year to eat our leftover wedding cake...and we lasted 3 days. That says it all, no? read more

I have such a mixed review from my sisters wedding. As the maid of honor, I wanted to ensure her wedding was as quality as she had put the planning and expense into. She spared no expense when it came to food. The mac and cheese and beef that was served was exceptional, but the pad thai station served barely served half the guests. The bride, groom, and rest of the bridal party didn't even get any!! When I went to get some, the guy looked at me and just said "we ran out" and pretty much walked away, causing my poor mother to start crying, she wanted things to be smooth and taken care of. The food I DID get to taste was exceptional and there was so much left over, we ate it for days while my sister was on her honeymoon. Seemed odd there was so much of one and hardly any of the other when you are spending a TON of money for food. The late night breakfast tacos were just OK, but were fun! and the dessert was nice and beautifully displayed. Overall, it shouldn't be so much drama with food, but I guess that's all part of wedding stuff. read more
