I have a sour-sweet feeling about this catering service. For my wedding, they made modifications to my contract a few times, and "Alanna" was very rude, suggesting to find another catering service if we did not like the changes 3 DAYS prior to the wedding. They did not offered a plated service, even so the staff was idling during their staying at our reception. They had an outstanding avocado bar. But the additional appetizers I asked for were served cold and mushy. The main course was Ok, so was the bar. Saddens me that the pictures of the food in my wedding are very lame. Unbelievable after what we paid. And should have been easy to accommodate for only 50 guests. Honestly, I do not recommend them unless they switch staff. read more

We hired Dagar's for our son's rehearsal dinner for around 100 people this weekend in downtown Austin. Dagar's did a GREAT job! Kat, in the office, helped plan the evening and was so helpful throughout the whole process. When she walked me through the event details she captured everything they needed to know. The night of the event, they were on time, prepared, and well-staffed. We chose to have a plated meal and they served everything effortlessly to the room. The food was delicious and hot when it arrived at the tables. We had passed appetizers which were also a big hit during cocktail hour. I engaged these folks to do the bar tending at my wife's surprise 70th birthday party and they were outstanding. They arrived early, the set-up was professional and they were fun, courteous and hard working. They bussed tables and were able to make any cocktail that anyone wanted. I am attending a conference for the school, and it was catered by Dagar's Catering. I was definitely not disappointed. From what I could tell they arrived and set up in a timely manner. By the time we were released for lunch, everything was ready to go. The good was delicious! It was self serve, so you could get the amount you felt necessary. The server was so polite! Dagar's was such a pleasure to work with and they did a fantastic job catering our wedding! We trialed several other caterers that came highly recommended, but were disappointed in the food. I found Dagar's catering off the list of accepted caterers from The Wildflower Center, our venue. We went to a tasting and were very impressed! We wanted to switch out an item and they invited us for second tasting. I can't quite recall if this was free or if they charged us and then it was subtracted from our final bill, but it was so worth it to finalize our menu with confidence! Even though our tasting was yummy, I was suspicious the food wouldn't turn out as good at the wedding, but it did!! I've gotten so many compliments on how good the food was from guests. I regret not going out to see where the food was served (buffet style), so I cannot comment on display, but the food was amazing. Also, it shows that they took good care of the bride and groom, serving us our food, so we didn't have to bother with the buffet line. They set up the tables beautifully, just as requested. We didn't have a coordinator, so they worked with us and had no problem filling in certain decorating requests. They also did a timely job cleaning up the chairs after the ceremony. The only hiccup in the night was for the vegetarian plates. We had forgotten to tell our vegetarian guests to request a special plate so they received it late, once we remembered. An announcement or some kind of cueing for that would have been helpful. Also, they forgot to place water glasses on the table, but it was available off to the side of the room. Overall, I would highly recommend them. We met with Kathryn, the owner, several times and she was always very helpful, reassuring, and knew what she was doing. She seemed extremely comfortable in our venue and made everything run very smoothly. Everyone was very friendly and I cannot think of a complaint about anyone. We are so glad we chose to work with Dagar's for our wedding day! We chose to do a cocktail hour with passed apps and it was so classy. The presentation of the food is beautiful, and let me tell you, it tastes as good as it looks! We had a family style salad before our plated entrees, and after that we had a smores bar! What more could you possibly want!! Planning a wedding is extremely stressful, especially choosing your caterer. They catered the majority of a three-day event I put together. The food was phenomenal and ranged from very casual to formal. They worked with me on several changes to menus and number of participants and with adding tables, chairs and linens. All responses were prompt and pricing fair. The contact was straight-forward. My only qualms were that I had no way of getting a hold of anyone over the weekend when there was a mix-up about the lunch delivery time, there was no cream for the coffee for breakfast (but the delivery driver was ready to go to the store to get some when asked) and the bacon wasn't crispy. With all that could go wrong with this many meals, I would definitely still say it was successful and I would recommend them to anyone. read more

After posting my reviews, Dagar's is trying to pull down my reviews. That is super fishy business practice. They are stating that this never happened, even thought I have written proof. If I could give this company a 0 star rating, I would. Dagar's was catering our wedding. Stephanie was my account manager. She does not car about her job, that she would not email me back, answer my messages, or talk to me about the details of my wedding. I have many unanswered emailed and questions. I decided to call the owner, and tell her that we wanted a new account manager that Stephanie was very unprofessional. The owner blamed me for not have Stephanie respond. She just kept saying that she hires only the best and that nothing was wrong. I requested to have a new manager and she refused. The day of our wedding, the caterer was late. Our contract stated that we would have a manager on site and have 4 other staff members. We only received two staff members and NO manager. We ordered ties for the cocktail tables. They did not bring the ties. When I brought this up to the owner, she blamed me. I had email communication to prove that I requested them to be ordered. Once again Stephanie dropped the ball. They ask for a schedule. They brought out our cake 2 hours before it was supposed to be served. The guests got the cakes, and we were not able to cut into our own cake. When we brought this to the owner's attention, she said that the mother-of-the-groom said that the cake should be placed earlier. One, on the contract, it only said to speak to the bride. Two my husbands mom passed away 8 years ago. How sick is it that they blamed it on someone that was passed away. We used Dagar's for the bar service. I emailed the company the week of the wedding, asking if guests could order just soft drinks at the bar. I was told yes. I have email proof. The bar tender told us that my father-in-law was cussing him out because the bartender would not give him a coke. Apparently that was not true. We had guests tell us that the bartender was rude and cussing them out over wanting sodas. I brought this up to the owner, and she said that bartender has had problems in the past.. We did not receive our care packages that were promised. We where told because there were no left overs. So the "complimentary" care packages are paid for by the groom and bride. So this is not complimentary. Dagar's was supposed to bus the tables. Our reception ended at 10 and our contract said that Dagar's would leave at 11pm. They also was supposed to checkout with the venue. They left at 10pm, and my husband myself and our guests had to clean the tables. We also had got in trouble with our venue since they left. The contract said that my venue needed them to checkout at the end of the night. When I brought this all up to the owner, she said that her team is having problems reading the contract. If we broke the contract we would have to pay a fine, but yet they can break the contract. I told the owner how upset I was that our reception was horrible. She once again blamed me and said that she could not turn back time. What a joke!!! This was a very import day for us and she acted like it didn't matter. We paid thousands of dollars to have horrible service. If you want to feel like a valued customer, do not use this service. read more

Kathryn and her team did a wonderful job working with us. We had to cancel my daughter's wedding because of the corona virus. She worked with us right up until we had no other choice then to cancel. We were able to move the date and transfer everything over without a hitch. The food is delicious! We were treated to an amazing complimentary tasting. Everything was so good! We recently attended Dagar's monthly open house as they came highly recommended by our wedding venue. We went into the night without having read any of the reviews, but now wish we had. The "open house" isn't really "open" in the fact that you must RSVP well ahead of time. I can understand this - especially for a catered event - though maybe it shouldn't be called an "open house." When we attempted to RSVP, we had to answer several rounds of rather unprofessional emails asking us the details of our event before we were cleared to come to the "open" house. To their credit - their food was decent. It was your average, run-of-the-mill catered food. The beef tenderloin was excellent - they knocked it out of the park. Brisket and chicken were both a little dry - fried shrimp were a little on the soggy side. The servers, who they say are the same servers that would likely cater your event, were just fine - very friendly and professional - which is exceptional considering they work with Kathryn Dagar. My fiancée and I had both separately observed her being rude to her staff and borderline rude to other guests. As mentioned, the venue is pretty small, so when she walks in the kitchen and yells "Mediterranean Chicken - GET IT OUT!!" or "GO BUS!" to the servers, it left several attendees feeling uncomfortable - though I imagine the servers felt worse. In the end, they had an ice cream bar where guests could choose their own toppings. However, they forgot to bring spoons, so they were having people eat ice cream with forks. As a catering company vying for business - I'm not sure how you miss this one. As I stood there - eating ice cream with a fork and listening to the boss demean her staff constantly - I realized that the catering for our big day would not be from Daggar's. read more

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and giving 2 stars only because I couldn't do 1.5... Basically, they were my front-runners for catering my wedding until I was able to find someone better to handle the job, and thank goodness I did. With the small amount of contact I had with them, I can say they are nice people. And they have been around for a long time, so you know they aren't going to go out of business. And their prices are reasonable. However. They are just so terrible when it comes to correspondence. It took weeks to send me a proposal that was supposed to take days, and emails would go unanswered for weeks as well until I sent follow-ups asking the same question again and finally getting a response with x,y, and z excuses why they haven't been answered. Also, there were monthly scheduled tastings that I had gone out of my way to move my schedule around would be changed after it was too late for me to attend. Albert Dagar personally catered our wedding, and man, I loved that guy. We had a last minute storm (awesome, huh?) and everyone was freaking out, except my husband and me, who were holed up in separate rooms at the venue unsure what really do to. Albert made an executive decision to move it inside, which he did with no complaints, and then made the room where we ended up eating look beautiful. He was great during dinner and cake-cutting, and made us a special to-go box full of the best stuff of the night, with meat for my husband and vegetarian for me. The food was delicious and we got lots of compliments - even our photographer took a bunch of food shots, he was so impressed. Pre-wedding day, we worked closely with his daughter, Kathryn, who was also fun to work with. She has a great sense of humor but will get whatever needs to get done, done. They've been in business longer than any other caterer in Austin, and because they have so many supplies, they can charge less than other companies for the same level of service. When it comes to Dagar's, there is good news and bad news. The good: they are much cheaper than any other caterer I've found. The bad: the food and service are decent, but not outstanding. I should probably mention that it has been quite some time since I have used them or been to an event that they catered. I actually used them for my wedding (7 yrs ago) and we did get compliments on the food, although I learned later that they ran out of red wine before the reception was over (this is so not cool, because I paid a flat rate per person). Albert Dagar, the owner, was also kind of brusque and a bit ornery to deal with. I also used to encounter them frequently because my office used to use them a lot for our office parties. The price was right, but another caterer eventually won our business. The new caterer costs more, but the quality is so much better that we have never looked back. read more

I have used Dagar's for multiple events. I feel as if I've worked with the entire staff at one point or another, so I feel fully equipped to give them a 5 star rating. For starters the price is always right. Because they are priced so fairly, we never have a hard time staying within budget. This helps us get the most out of our budget as possible. I've worked with other caterers as well, and this is an area that they ALWAYS excel in. Can you find cheaper catering? Yes, I'm sure you can. But will it be consistently good? No. I know what I'm getting when I order through Dagar's and they never fail to deliver. At the actual event, the staff is ALWAYS on top of it. I am usually 1 step behind them when I go to remind them about something. (AKA they have already done it or are in the process of doing it.) If something last-minute needs to change, no questions asked, they can handle it. I would highly recommend Dagar's (and in fact I do... to many many people). If you want your budget to go as far as possible without sacrificing quality and consistency, Dagar's is the way to go. read more

My husband and I went with Dagar's Catering for our wedding hors d'oeuvres, and we could not have been happier. Not only did they provide delicious passed and displayed appetizers, they assisted in the flipping of our ceremony space to the reception space. They also cut the cake and passed it to our guests for only a minimal extra charge. The food was great, and the guests were very satisfied! They really enjoyed the beef crostini which was our favorite as well. My husband and I greatly appreciated how Dagar's staff cared about us, making sure that we had a chance to sit down and eat/drink something. Food was the most important thing to me about our wedding. I come from a long lineage of cooks. My friends are chefs, farmers, food entrepreneurs and artisans. Professionally, I have planned many large events in Austin and have worked with caterers on all of them. So when I say that Dagar's is one of the best caterers in town - for both food and service - I speak from experience. The owner Kathryn Albarado is a pleasure to work with. She's professional and focused. She is a great source of ideas (since she's done this for years). I didn't have a wedding planner, so I asked for her advice a lot. I highly recommend doing this. I just loved her. She has great judgement, she allayed my anxieties about so many things, and our wedding was fantastic. Andrew also worked with me on a few things, and he's great too. Food: We served the BBQ brisket and chicken. It was AMAZING. Practically everyone complimented us on how delicious the food was. I have one word for you: BARK. It was amazing: so moist and tender, with a thick, smoky char. I'm from Texas. I've had a lot of BBQ. I tried 3 other caterers' BBQ. None of them can hold a candle to this char. Just go to a tasting and try it. The sides were awesome: classic slaw, beans and creamy mac and cheese. Even the vegetarians loved their specially prepared meals. Plus, Kathryn worked with me to create the appetizers I wanted, even though they weren't on the menu. Service: It poured rain on our wedding day, so we had to enact the rain plan (which, of course, Kathryn had discussed with me well in advance). Instead of the pre-ceremony cocktail hour in the courtyard, they carried trays of margaritas around to our guests in the auditorium. Brilliant. The groom and I had cold margaritas in our hands approximately 3 minutes after the ceremony. Also brilliant. They brought us appetizers while we were taking pictures. They brought us plates of food during the reception while everyone else was in line at the buffet. They consistently cleared plates and glasses. Before the wedding, they helped my husband unload all of the beer and wine, and they loaned him an umbrella and a poncho. After the wedding, they helped my friends and family take down the decorations, and they cleaned up the whole place. My mom was so grateful for the help they provided. Bartending: Also amazing. We provided the lime juice and the alcohol, and they mixed the margaritas. They were the real deal. We also got a lot of praise for the margaritas. My husband made all of the beer and wine, with colored stickers for labels, requiring the bartender to memorize the sticker color of the different beers and wines. We also wanted the bottles packed back into their boxes for future re-use. They did all of this expertly with no complaint. We had around 100 people with 1 bar, and the only time I saw a longer line was right after the ceremony. Planning and Communication: These folks are professionals. You email them; they email you back. You call them; they call you back. You want a face-to-face meeting; you get one. If you're just starting your search for a wedding caterer, you will come to appreciate how valuable this is. Cost wise, I made a huge spreadsheet comparing each line item from the proposals of six different caterers. Dagar's prices were in the middle. Tasting: I went to several caterers' tastings. None like Dagar's. They have the tastings in venues around town, and they set up tables with full service so you can see what they can do. Just go. You'll eat so much food. Oh, and it's free. I think you have to get a proposal from them before attending, but why wouldn't you want one? I had to leave early to go to work before the end, and the owner Kathryn insisted that I take some cake. That's what I'm talking about. Cake to go. Service ware: I need to mention this because our tables were so beautiful. I chose the mixed vintage pattern to go with my garden wedding, and even my florist commented on how beautiful the setting was. It was elegant and colorful without being overly fanciful. Not only were they prompt in returning all calls and emails, but they were able plan menus for two events with barely two weeks notice, and all within our modest budget! The students loved the food and our staff appreciated the vegetarian options and reusable cups:) Mostly I appreciated the staff of workers who came down to cater our events...they seemed genuinely happy to be there and were more than helpful when it came to packaging the leftovers. Attended a wedding 11/10/19. Food from Dagars was mediocre at best. Vegetables were overcooked and seemed to be from a can. Lasagna was terrible. We just had our wedding catered by Dagar's. While the previous posts were probably all true to some degree, my five stars comes because, for the price, they did extremely well. Sure, some will say the service is better at places that cost twice as much. Maybe, maybe not. Besides, I find the argument "my BMW drives better than your Camry" really stupid because they are not the same price. Our food was good and the service was quite good. Kathryn, whom seems perpetually busy, really cracked the whip at our event to make sure everything went smoothly. We had a few doubts pre wedding but all those went away and then some. The doubts partly stem from the fact that the food quality at tastings was uneven (so I could see a prior comment about bad sliders). The thing about the food at Dargar's is that they make so many items that some taste good and some don't. Go to several tastings and tell them exactly what you want. We also changed wine selections. Our food at the wedding tasted great and everyone was happy. Hot bread also, and the wait staff was in force to take care of everyone. They were very happy to work with us. If I had to do it over again, I'd definitely do it as long as Kathryn or Albert was on site to supervise (family owned). Kathryn may come off as a bit brusque now and again, but when lots of hungry mouths are to be fed you want someone giving marching orders and making sure everything goes very smooth and she is good at that. read more

My review is only based on a dish they provided at Big Reds and Bubbles 2008. It smelled like breakfasty wonderfulness but it was so disappointing. They were giving out what they called Texas Goat Cheese Sliders with Creamed Onion Jam. Basically, the slider was a sausage biscuit sandwich. The biscuit was dry and crumbly, almost tough. The sausage was overcooked and dry and we would not even tell there was goat cheese inside. The onion jam was nice but nothing could rescue this dish. I can't believe they served it and at the Driskill, no less. People were throwing it away. My high school served up better biscuits than Dagar's did. read more

We had one of the BBQ options which was delicious and I liked the options of sides because I was able to choose some that were a little more upscale than the typical BBQ joint but that were still at a level that would accommodate all quests without them having to wonder what they were eating. They also added some cheese and veggie trays on a last minute request that were absolutely amazing. During the reception, the staff seemed genuinely concerned about my husband and me and kept reminding us that we should actually sit for a minute and eat. Dagar's Catering was awesome! We liked everything about them! Frank was very responsive and professional. We planned our wedding on a short time-line. Initially, our wedding date was not open, but Frank was able to fit us into the date. The food was delicious! We chose the brisket, smoked turkey, and sausage. Everything was so tasty. Everyone commented specifically on the sausage, potatoes, and beans. So good! The service was excellent. At the wedding, they made a plate for my husband, the best man, and myself. They checked with us throughout the night to make sure that we had everything we needed. They got us drinks as well, which was above and beyond what they had to do. It was something that we didn't even know that we needed. We were so busy trying to talk to all the guests, that eating and drinking weren't foremost in our minds, but Frank and his crew made sure that we were taken care of without intruding at all. If your party guests don't have taste buds - by all means use Dagar's. First of all, It was quite the dedicated drive to get to the place. The front door staff were very pleasant and courteous. I forgot her name, but the redhead who was just promoted was very professional. We got to go wait in a lounge with a bar set up which was nice. But then we were taken to the kitchen where they have the prep tables covered and decorated for us to sit at. It was SO HOT in there. I'm talking hotter than outside hot and it was in the 90s. The chairs were really tall and wobbly and very uncomfortable to sit in wearing a dress but I understand they were making what they had work. Well the food started out really delicious. The coconut chicken appetizer was tasty. But the civiche was basically just frozen salad shrimp with a cucumber that was cut way too thick and extremely difficult to eat without dripping all over yourself. I can only imagine getting this juice on the wedding day attire. Not good. Throughout the servings everything just kept getting worse and worse. The chicken was dry. The poblano chicken tasted terrible because it was stuffed with bacon and olives and some other nonsense. They served chicken after chicken dish and none of them were worth the price it was going to cost for their services. Instead of having so many different chicken options they should have perfected one chicken dish with a selection of different sides. The sides were not as terrible as the meats. The vegetables had an odd color though. I did enjoy the round beef but not the brisket - it had way too much flavor and charing. The pasta station was OK. Neat idea, but the Alfredo sauce needs a little more pepper.. the marinara was tasty though. And then the Fajitas. The worst fajitas I've ever tasted in my life. Period. I don't even know why they bothered putting that up as an option because it seriously ruined the entire experience. There were also no vegetarian options to taste which was unsettling because our Bride and a large handful of party guests are vegetarian which was discussed prior to the tasting. They aren't going to order these options without tasting it first, especially after all the flavor mishaps with the chicken. The best part of the evening was tasting the treats from SImon Lee Bakery who are unaffiliated with Dagar's. Simon Lee rescued our taste buds. read more

We had Dagar's cater our wedding last month. The tasting they do monthly was very enjoyable. We were very excited about our choice. On our wedding day, I was decently satisfied with the food. The thing I was not happy with was the service. The waitstaff really took great care of my parents, but not of us (the bride and groom). They didn't bus our salads until the end of the night, they skipped me for the champagne toast so my husband had to chase down a staff member, they only served one of the three cake varieties we had to the head table, and, in general, the staff did not really smile at anyone. I understand you're working, but it never hurts to smile! The bartender, however, was wonderful! Pleasant and friendly to everyone! All in all, everything went great and everyone was fed and happy, but I was not impressed with the service for what we paid. read more

I've known the Dagar's family for a long time, first as a photographer back in the 80's, but more recently in the last 14-15 years as a wedding venue owner. Dagar's has always had wonderful food (and some fabulous new menus!) but from a vendor's viewpoint, I have to rave about their service. I wish more clients knew to ask what it's like to work with caterers, not just eat their food. These are the most professional folks in the biz. They come early, they look like maîtres d's at a fine dining restaurant and they act the part too. You can't know how rare that is and how appreciated it is as well. Thank you all! read more

I cannot say enough good things about Dagar's Catering. I have used them a few times personally, as well as attended events that Dagar's has catered. Obviously the quality of food being served is important, but equally important is the staff. Do they go out of their way to ensure all guests are taken care of? Are they accommodating? Do they smile and seem happy to be there? YES, YES and YES to all three when it comes to the staff at Dagar's! They do not disappoint and it's great to have a solid catering company you like and can trust. read more

My husband and I live in LA and had our wedding in Dripping Springs, TX last week. We had many recommendations for caterers but after we spoke with Kathryn and saw their selection of food, we booked them immediately even before we had our tasting. At our tasting, we were treated like royalty and Kathryn and her staff catered (literally) to our every request as we emailed back and forth altering certain aspects of our customized menu up until a few weeks before our wedding. There was nothing they wouldn't do for us. We had excellent service from start to finish with our wedding. Kathryn was our contact person and always responded within 24hours (but usually 1-2hrs if it was during the work day). I explained my vision for food and Kathryn created an amazing menu that my guests are still talking about. John was out captain, and made sure we had food and drinks all night (we actually got to eat at our own wedding)!
