Sometimes they would start late because they had another student so my son only got 20 mins. The restrooms aren't very clean. I preferred to change my son in the car. We left since we moved.

She was super happy and hyped up to work with the kiddos each day and it showed. This last year 2023, can't say the same thing at all. The instructor was ok she was more laid back and not as excited it seemed. Maybe younger and a bit more serious. Didn't get her name. My daughter still enjoyed swim nonetheless but the energy this year was definitely different! The company is nice enough and ran pretty well otherwise.

We would rather give up the remaining classes than continue wasting time here. The entire operation is very disorganized and unprofessional. Coaches are frequently rotated, and many coaches are clearly unprepared. One coach even asked the kids what swimming level they were at after the class had already started -- this is not just careless, it is completely unacceptable. The class arrangement is extremely chaotic. Six kids were squeezed into one narrow swim lane, with no enough space for real learning. It felt chaotic from start to end. This is not an environment where kids can truly learn to swim or build confidence in the water. If your child likes swimming and you take swim instruction seriously, please don't waste your time and money at YMCA Chino

I have to say, the price I paid is totally worth it. My baby who is about to turn One year old loves the heated pool and instructors, Rusty and Pairs. They have been working with him on a one-to-one basis. I was really impressed with the safety tips taught to my baby. I normally schedule baby-and-me class the same day with my class. So after baby-and-me class, Pairs will play with my baby and practice the safety skills while I take adult swimming lesson with Rusty. I like how Rusty takes his time to teach me on the correct breathing and kicking techniques. I really appreciate that he allows me to practice even on the days when we do not have class scheduled. What started as a positive and enjoyable experience gradually became more challenging for him. He began to struggle--regressing at times, crying during lessons, and frequently reaching for us for comfort. At one point, we were asked to step inside to help him focus without distraction. It was heartbreaking to see how difficult it had become for him, and after some tough weekends, we were close to giving up. However, Rene, Dave and their team encouraged us to stay consistent and trust the process. We took their advice, and within a couple of weeks, everything changed, he began enjoying the water again. Now, at almost 2 years old, he's moved up to the beginner level. He gets so excited that we have to remind him to walk around the pool instead of running in! Watching him progress, splash, kick, and make friends has made weekends fun again. Rene, Dave, and their team are incredible coaches who truly care. They didn't give up on our son and made sure we didn't either. I highly recommend RSL--they are knowledgeable, experienced, and genuinely want the best for every child. I've seen similar experiences with other kids, and my advice is the same: trust the process. The team is not only highly trained but also warm and welcoming--we've even found two babysitters there whom our son absolutely loves!

The pool is huge and the instructors send them back and forth over and over! Endurance seems to be the main philosophy. Some of the instructors are very engaging, overall everyone is pretty friendly! Things I noticed Safety is not a huge priority. There is no one on deck keeping an eye out for things the instructors may miss. The first day of class, and multiple after, my kids instructor walked into the building telling the other instructor of the other class to "keep an eye" to which he just kind of laughed and went back to the class he was teaching. Meanwhile she had 4 swimmers in the pool in other lanes behind and the instructor of the other class was faced away from them the entire time. That was my 7 year olds first or second day in the class. I had seen this sort of thing a lot, their instructor would chat with a students mom who was seated in the upper level, she'd face away from the students and just chat. By the 4th class I was ready to let the office know, but then the owner came outside, and held a conversation with the instructor the same way, her back away from the swimmers. My swimmer had been introduced to all of the strokes but I enrolled him to improve his form. He'd taken other classes where there was an emphasis on that. What I found is that there is very little instruction in the advanced class, the students are sent on back and forth several times but only upon request will they be critiqued or given better techniques. It is more like someone standing there somewhat keeping an eye on them and telling them to swim 400 or what not. At one point they had the owner, and at another, her husband and like I mentioned at another point, the other instructor in the other class, "take over" with instructions like "they're doing kickbaord" or "have them do bla" They are not very organized. First day of class the instructor was 5 minutes late. After that the advanced class had multiple people take over. The intermediate class had a lot more consistency, but one of the days Alexis (she did a great job) had to ask the owners husband where her secondary was. She came out a few minutes later , while the class was sorta on hold Things I'm not sure on: The young kids aren't taught to rest float. I've liked other places teach this, in the case that the child knows how to swim but doesn't have energy to get back to shore, or the edge of a pool for whatever reason. I once almost drowned as a kid in a pool right in the middle, I had slowly but surely run out of energy and not noticed til I couldn't keep my head above water. My brother pushed me to the edge. That being said, the rest float is a hard position to get into, so I kinda understand why they don't teach it‍ Overall, i think my kids are stronger swimmers and I'd possibly come back next summer since I trust my kids and I'm keeping an eye the entire time. Its $35 for 30 minutes (so 8 classes comes out to $280) Alexis was very encouraging in the intermediate class and each of the intermediate instructors really pushed the kids, and encouraged them, which I really appreciated:) oh and one more thing, I loved that at the intermediate level, there are two instructors to 4 students! I thought this would be a great way to use our funds and teach him pool safety. Fast forward to today, my son has since turned 7 this year, and he still does not know how to swim or even put his head under the water. Granted, we were not going consistently. But for the past 3 months we have taken him weekly. Before that we did 2 other months I believe. I thought, let's just keep trying, maybe it's just that he's scared and he'll learn if we stick it out. My child struggles with sensory issues and has not been interested in getting his face wet. He also has a harder time being around other kids in very close proximity which, he definitely is here. He did the group lessons for 30 mins and they're basically shoulder to shoulder most of the time. So, the good: when he first started he really liked the two different teachers that worked w/him. The class was usually just him and one other child. The location is clean, and the staff seemed friendly. My son also mostly enjoyed the time and being in the pool, so it was good for getting more experience around other kids, teachers and being in a new environment. The negative: the teachers rotate so you never know who you're going to get. So one teacher might know where your kid is at, but then a new person comes in the next week and it's like starting all over. It seems hard to build a comfortable relationship with the teachers because of this as well. Also, my son never progressed much at all. He moved to the larger pool this year and it's been 3 kids to 1 teacher. recently, however, there were 4 kids in the class. I timed it on my phone out of curiosity- to see exactly how much 1:1 time he got during that class. 4 mins and 9 seconds. Total. The class moved like a conveyor belt just shuffling the kids around, I couldn't believe the kids were getting less than 5 mins each with the teacher. The time in between their turn, they're just holding on to the edge of the pool waiting. My son felt very cramped and two other kids were being kids and having fun but disrupting the class, so the teacher's attention was mainly spent on telling them to stop doing what they were doing. My son was frustrated and felt like he wasted his time. He also had safety concerns because the kids were practically on top of him at times and kicking and splashing in his personal space, so I don't blame him. He's already afraid as it is. Today we went back and there were 4 kids again. He just didn't want to do it again. The kids seem to be on a hamster wheel. The teachers, though friendly, simply don't have adequate time to actually teach the kids anything solid. It's like busy work. I also had a strange phone conversation with the owner recently. to be frank, she kept trying to rush me off the phone and I kept having to say "oh, wait sorry" (nicely) because i had more than one question but she seemed bothered with me. She also didn't explain about making up a certain day and how many days I had to reschedule when my kid got sick. You only get one make up class for the whole year which seems odd to me. We already missed two classes due to vacation (1 planned reschedule) and sickness (she apparently gave us 7 days from the date of the class to reschedule but didn't actually communicate that to me- I found out from the girls at the front desk AFTER the fact and the 7 days passed, which was frustrating because I would have brought him in. I guess I was supposed to assume what she meant when she asked "what does he have??" As in asking what illness he had. I said idk, a cold I think? But wasn't sure. So she "made a note" on her end but never specified that I had to come in within 7 days to make it up. Which really was just a courtesy reschedule because they don't even offer that. So, oh well. Honestly though, even beyond all this, I could see and feel the judgement when I mentioned today that my kid was more easily overwhelmed and we would maybe look into one on one classes for the future. I got the impression that there was very little understanding or empathy there for my child, and my family and I felt brushed off. Bottom line, just not for us. 4 kids is too many for one pool. 4 mins is not enough time to give each kid when you're paying for 30. Maybe one on one classes are different, or with smaller groups, but I had too many incidents where I brought up a concern and felt dismissed. In the future we'll be going elsewhere but I'm bummed we went for so long with really not much to show for it. At the very least my kid got a little more comfortable being in the water but for paying about $400-$500 total and like 4-5 months of weekly classes? I would not say this was worth that time or money unfortunately.
