I took my wife and daughter here recently based on the current reviews here and a friend who also gave it a good review. The atmosphere was great, but loud. The servers were very professional and prompt. They have menu's in English for us gringos :) The food was muy excellente!! I had the Pork Fillet, which comes wrapped in bacon, topped with mushrooms, and in a sauce that was simply amazing! The wife had salmon, which was also cooked to perfection and my daughter had some beef brusheta (?) what ever it was - it was also great! I'll be back! Excellent service, food, and prices! read more

I'm not a big fan of steaks... I eat meat just don't usually order a huge piece of meat. Unless it has great sides to keep me engaged. This place is the only place where I only want the steak. It's sooo amazing. Order the steak mochomo! It's to die for!!! Location It's an upscale place and it's great for accommodating large groups. We had 10 in our group. Very clean with animal heads on the wall (don't bring a vegan friend because I think they are real). Plenty of parking outside. Price Once again coming from LA this place is under priced. My steak was about 10 bucks. For this amazing piece of meat.... At least 30 in la Food The Steak Mochomo!!!! It's the go to!!! The steak is so juicy and I ordered mine medium well. The sauce on the plate is the real secret. It marinates on your plate in addition to what they did to prepare it. Every bite is flavorful and I don't get bored. The only side is a couple of fries which is perfect. As an appetizer we order the guacamole. Everything here is top notch so you can't go wrong. All of my co workers left more than satisfied Service Mexican service is great in most places. Here it's no exception, friendly staff and one of my friends wanted to have their steak cooked a bit more, they didn't make a fuss and you can tell they are all about pleasing their customers. This is a great place to have dinner if you are craving steak. Very good food and exceptional service. We started off with some appetizers consisting of cubes of cheese lightly fried and served on a bed of sauce with tortillas on the side. As an entrée, I ordered a very large boneless ribeye steak that was apparently aged for 30 days. I believe the waiter said it was dry aged. It's seemed to have the characteristic low-water content of a dry aged steak, however, the distinctive nutty flavor was not quite there. Nevertheless, it was a very good steak and a relatively good value, given the quality of the meat. The steak was cooked perfectly and served with a side of garlic and chili juerito paste that was prepared at the table by the waiter. I really must re-emphasize the exceptional service we received at this restaurant. The waiters are very professional and attentive. You do not have to wait or "flag" anybody down for attention - it seemed like they were always right there. If you were to twist my arm for a complaint, I would say that my margarita was small. But what the heck am I doing ordering a margarita at a high-quality steak restaurant? This is not a margarita joint! That was clearly my fault, so unless you twist my arm, I will not complain about that. The rest of the drinks looked very good and they had a decent bottled beer selection as well. Not so happy here anymore. We walk in, order a beer, get menus... then a group a 8 comes in, they get menus, drinks then they take their orders. So now we are there waiting and waiting and waiting to give our order... then a server just walks up and grabs are menus and walks off... I got the hint, paid the bill for the beer and left. As non Spanish speakers, my friend and I were very pleased at our waiter's ability to not only speak to us in English, but he was also very patient and helpful in explaining to us the exchange rate so we could pay with US dollars and suggesting other places nearby for us to check out during our visit. The restaurant is located in a very nice shopping center for the location--there were a lot of American restaurants like Carl's Jr and Starbucks close by, but of course, as tourists, we wanted to find something a tiny bit more regionally authentic. I ordered the chipotle shrimp tacos and my friend ordered the duck tacos (each costing around 8 US dollars) and we both were very pleased. I must say my expectations about this restaurant were high I've been to other restaurants of this caliber on both sides of the border (price, service and quality). Visited on 9/5 1- The restaurant was having A/C problems during my visit the outside temperature was 107 C. The place failed to mention or warned customers of this issue, which by the time we confirmed our reservation on 9/5 two hours prior the restaurant was well aware of the problem with the A/C. 2- For the entrée the waiter was not a happy camper he looked desperate and did not talk about the starters or recommendations he seemed almost bother and annoyed with my questions. 3- The same thing happened with the main course did not allude to anything. 4- The food quality was poor, out of a party of five, two of us returned the food in my case was because I asked for my cut of meat to be medium rare, and it came rare, at one point I was thinking maybe it is only me I asked around the table for their feedback and it was mediocre at best 5- The expectations for a place like this linked to a pricey menu it is exactly that for the price your expectations on food quality comfort and service should be above the norm, knowingly you go to place like this for the experience set-forth above. 6- My key takeaways, I heard this place was GREAT before they moved to their current locations, reconnect to what that previous location food experience was which I keep hearing it was excellent. You must warn your customers of any technical difficulties you're facing in this case the A/C and let the customer make the decision if they want to eat here or not while such an important piece of information is left out. I was staying in Mexicali and wanted a steak, so I checked out Yelp, saw the good reviews of Mochomos and went there. The menu is varied and the food descriptions are right on. I opted for the Mochomos salad and the Mochomos steak. The salad in a heap of spinach leaves, with bits of cheese, some almonds and pieces of cranberries, all tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette. It was delicious and huge. The assortment of ingredients was just right and the vinaigrette was superb. The steak came perfectly medium rare as ordered and was a very good piece of beef. The sauce was tasty, but a tad too tasty. It was very heavy on Worcestershire, which I love by the way, but the sauce was a little too heavy for the meat - it overpowered it. I asked for some bread and was given a bowl of over-toasted French bread - they were more like croutons and too toasted for the meal. Overall, the meal was excellent; I just wished the bread was more like fresh bread and the sauce a little thinner and not so much. Maybe I'm nit-picking, but that's me.
