I had heard good things about Modern Animal in SF from a couple of friends, so we decided to check out the clinic here in Mill Valley. You pay a membership fee for Modern Animal, but that covers exam fees all year and also gives you 24/7 access to chat, call or message them through the app. The app gives you access to all the information you need ie lab results, and what screenings are due for your pet at any given time. We found the experience to be wonderful- it was easy to book an appointment through the app, easy to have questions answered, and the visit at the vet was great. The nurse and techs who helped us were so kind, skilled, and sweet to our dog. And Dr. Sindell was great- she is thoughtful, smart, and also was so gentle and loving to our dog! I also was thinking of buying her flea/tick/heart work meds online, but found that the price they charged was exactly the same price as the lowest that I had found online! So we got her meds there. Overall- a great experience, clean clinic, the app makes it all easy to navigate, and Dr. Sindell is wonderful! read more

We've been using Frontline for years, no issues and no fleas. They passed a brush through his fur twice and found fleas and flea dirt. Said he had a severe infestation, needed to flea bomb our house, and that Frontline just isn't dependable anymore. They then gave him a dose of flea meds without asking when his last dose was, which was about 2 weeks ago. They sold us $170 flea meds without disclosing the price. I have been brushing his fur every few days since that appointment. I've found maybe 3 fleas. No fleas. No eggs. We were told SEVERE infestation. I'm truly convinced they planted fleas to convince us to buy pricey flea meds. read more

A truly different kind of Vet experience. If you don't mind paying more than many Vet's charge you'll get their attention & they're good professional people. They have an interesting system using & leveraging technology to keep you informed & provide helpful advice. My primary rub is they're just expensive & their Care Plan recommendations seem excessive but I'm sure they're just being diligent & they certainly aim to make a healthy profit to stay in business; maintain superior facilities & give your cat or dog the best care possible. Honestly, I want to do as much as I can for my senior cat, but I feel like I was cornered the very first visit I went for a common, treatable ailment. I had xrays, teeth extractions, blood work done for my cat a few months ago, and I have to plan carefully when it comes to finances. It is not cool to push $1k+ services on the first visit. I just had questions. There was no talk of pricing - just, "let's do this, this, and this " and at the end I was given the estimate briefly nudged towards accepting those services. A bit sneaky. I was also asked by a tech if I knew the name of the ear medication which was right on screen. What, is this a quiz to judge me on how much I care about my cat? It seemed like a weird power play. Please don't do this to pet owners. It is not professional. The vets are kind and knowledgeable. I know it's not easy what they do, but I do not like the business model of Modern Animal. Even though I have the annual membership I'll be looking for another vet in town that is not a franchise. read more

I'm so glad that Modern Animal was my dog's vet for the last two years of her life. The app made it so easy to check her records, get her test results, check what appointments were available and send a chat whenever I had a question. It meant that when we had to visit other vets for specialty or emergency care, instead of having to wait for Modern Animal to email over her records, we could just pull it up on the app ourselves and have it immediately accessible. I think the annual membership works great -- 24/7 chat and no fees for regular check ups meant I could send a message or book an appointment for my senior dog any time I noticed something off about her without ever worrying about paying a huge exam fee just to learn that she was doing fine. The amount of times we took advantage of the chat and regular check ups made the price more than worth it. The itemized estimates made it easy to see exactly what they wanted to do, and I never felt like the staff there shamed me if there were certain things that felt too expensive/not necessary -- the techs and the vets there were always happy to answer questions and explain exactly why they wanted to do certain things and give me the information I needed to make a decision about what I felt was best for my individual dog. The environment was also much calmer than other vets, which helped my very vet-anxious dog feel much calmer coming in for her appointments with Dr. Sindell. All of that made me like Modern Animal, but the thing I'll remember the most is how they helped when my sweet old lady passed away after a very long life. We brought her into Modern Animal the morning she passed unsure of what to do next and they immediately brought me and my family member into a private room where a vet tech walked us through what would happen next. They handled all of the logistics of sending her to a nearby aquamation facility so we didn't have to take on that burden after such a huge loss. Even though it was a busy morning, the vet tech was patient and kind with us and let us stay in the room as long as we needed to say goodbye to our little girl. It brought us so much closure and comfort. I highly recommend Modern Animal, especially if you have a senior pet who requires more frequent check ups and care. read more

My kitty is very afraid of humans other than me, and the vet I had taken her to was a bit far so I decided to try MA based on the very high Yelp reviews. I arrived quite early so there was a bit of a wait but would concur with others in saying that Dr. Sindell is a wonderful doctor, kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, and supportive. So why 4 stars only? I loved that they offered a discounted first time visit (the normal $80 wellness exam was reduced to $25), and had already expected to get the 3 year rabies vaccine, so was anticipating a $125 bill. After the doctor left, the technician pulled up her screen and said my bill for today would be $775! I almost fell off my seat! It was assumed that I would run all kinds of tests despite no detected health issues, so I literally had to go through and say, "nope", "nope", "nope". We were delighted that our former vet, Dr. Hathaidharm joined Modern Animal. We were initially apprehensive as others have stated about joining a "corporate" type medical practice for our vet, but the Mill Valley office is beautiful, all the staff and practitioners are welcoming and helpful and we are really happy to have such an excellent vet in Dr. Hathaidharm. Our cat Chloe loves her and Dr.H obviously loves cats! We discussed options for some dental care and I really liked hai I g the vet ruse to assist with taking notes and reviewing Chloe's needs. We were especially grateful that the office respected our wishes to to be masked for our visit and we weee actually able to do the history outdoors on their porch! Some my not like the communication via the app but it is more efficient and more timely than communications with our former vet. I've had recurring difficulties with this location being closed with no signage on the door. Modern Animal also makes it impossible to call any physical location to check if it's open. The workers at the Mill Valley location are great but sadly this app makes it an extremely frustrating, impersonal, and not at all "modern" experience to visit the vet. In fact, it takes longer when different vet techs are trying to respond to one message. read more

Excited to see this place open-it is so close to where I live. I was initially apprehensive about the membership fee but it will be more than made up for throughout the year. I have taken 2 of my dogs there so far:one for an urgent visit and one for a neuter consult. I got to spend a good amount of time with the doctor (Dr Sindell!) and never felt like I was being rushed out. No other vet has ever helped me keep my dogs ear infections under control. It has always been a bandaid treatment until the next inevitable infection. Dr Sindell has already talked through preventative measures for my water loving girl. For the consult, the doctors found a small heart murmur that no other vet has ever discussed with me. Again, we discussed next steps to help ensure my little guy gets through surgery both happy and healthy. They referenced giving the gold standard of medical care and that's what I want and think my fur babies deserve. So far, totally impressed! read more

And efficient too, thanks to the app. Dr. Sindell could mot have been more welcoming and attentive. Though we were there for a flu vaccine, she reviewed our dog's history, asked great questions and truly listened to the answers. Then she provided some thoughtful recommendations to help. Our visit became more of a well visit, and I found there to be a strong connection I hadn't felt before in the years we were with our former vet. She gave our dog all the time and attention she deserved, even though the staff was down a person on that day. I would never have known! Dr. Sindell also treated us to a tour of the facility. Everything is sparkling clean, hygienic, brand-new and modern. You won't see metal cages, for example; they're custom-made individual boxes with heated floors, special ventilation, calming colors.
